Follow-up Comment #13, bug #25411 (project wesnoth):

I did a fresh 1.13.6 install and replayed LoW from the beginning through
"Chief Must Die".  I can no longer reproduce the problem.  I replayed Chief
Must Die several times and the orc count remains constant (only 2 in the
fort), the wolves chase and back off when I flee far enough.  All seems fine
now.

Previously, I was doing some play-testing in 1.13.5 and perhaps my update from
1.13.5 to 1.13.6 was flawed.  It is probably safe to close this bug again.

Okay, well I found something but I can no longer demonstrate it.  I have
attached a jpeg of the initial set up in LoW Chief.  The fort that I point to
with the large red arrow WAS completely full of 6 orcs when I went back and
played 1.13 the first time tonight.  

After one replay where I failed miserably I went back to start and every
restart since then there are only 2 orcs in the fort.  And with only 2 orcs my
strategy from 1.12 is working again in 1.13.

I believe this was true of all the other forts as well.  When the scenario
fails it appears that all forts are full of orcs and that additional orcs are
possibly being spawned every turn.

I will try to reproduce it again tomorrow and get a screen shot.

I am unable to point to anything concrete between 1.12 and 1.13.  But every
attempt I've tried at a similar path on 1.13 (to the path in my successful
1.12 replay) just gets me completely clobbered by orcs.

I went back and played 1.12.  A victory was pretty straightforward and my
replay is attached.  It just seems like the wolves are not quite as
aggressive.  (Not sure about etiquette here, sorry if I'm not supposed to post
to a Closed bug.)

Well, thank you both for the additional investigation.  I never had to
approach from the east in 1.12 on easy.  I was able to have both heroes
approach from the southwest, rather directly, just pausing to let wolves pass
on patrol.  So something has changed, but the description "now impossible" is
obviously not accurate.  thanks again...Chris

Details:

Playing LoW on easy.  Never had any problem with this scenario in the 1.12
release.  Wolf riders get the heroes every single time now before they can
even reach the chief.  There seem to be more orcs on the map too.  Maybe it's
me, but hopefully someone else can play-test and confirm the new difficulty.

Thanks for the info.  I would not have (re)opened this bug if 1.13.5 didn't
actually contain half of the fix (experience for leaders), which led me to
think the whole fix was supposed to be present, but did not work.  Sorry for

Okay, thanks for the clarification.  Maybe a "fixed" bug should mention the
release it's fixed in?  Because 24896 was fixed on August 1 and 1.13.5 was
published on August 5.  Seems like enough time had passed.

I'm just a user who is able to report and willing to retest.  But I don't want
to get into nightly builds and release note details.

Related to bug #24896.
Replayed SP LoW from beginning in 1.13.5.  Leaders do arrive in Human Alliance
with proper levels and experience (fixed from 24896), however no recall list
of veterans is available (same problem as 24896).
