Dear Members living in and around Kampala. The family of our late friend Copper
(photo attached) who died in a Califonia Bus accident late March this year is
organising a thanks giving prayers on May 18 2013 at St Pauls Church (Okuvu) in
Kinawataka, Mbuya. Becuase of quick burial arrangements at that time many
friends got to know about the death after he was buried. The service starts at
3:00pm and is expected to end at 5:00pm to be conducted by Rev Canon Stephen
Gelenga of All Saints Cathedral Nakasero assisted by Rev John Atiku of the host
church. Please lets join his young family in the two hours prayers to give them
strength. God Bless You all.

Copper survived the sick bed towards the end of the previous year, called a few
of us to join him Praise and Thank the Living God who made him survive the sick
bed.

It was therefore  a big surprise when I heard of Copper's untimely home going.
We get encouraged that God is at the centre stage even during this very trying
moment. May His words in Psalm 23 reign on the family knowing that His Goodness
and Mercy will follow them all the days of their life.

Caleb and the team, please let us know of any arrangements.

May his soul rest in eternal Peace.

Dear all

The previous day was indeed awesome as the Lord Bishop as expressed. You
braved the rain, the cold and the jam to be part of the meeting we convened to
raise some money to support the silver jubilee preparations.

I would like to, on behalf of the core committee, say thank you very much for
your contributions. Allow me reiterate what both the Lord Bishop and Rev. Can
Gelenga said,..that you will all find favour in the eyes of the Lord.

To all those who were not able to attend the meeting but still want to
contribute, please contact Rosette on 077 2 511370.

To those who would have loved to support but have not been able to do so this
time, may the Lord provide to you so that you will be helpful in subsequent
calls.

Finally, thank you Sam Ejibua and Rosette Obizuyo for your hard work.

Dear Ejiku

Thank you for your generous contribution. We too noted that there are quite a
number of people who would have loved to be part of the meeting, but could not
because of various other critical reasons.

Your contribution is still timely for both the event and the favour. We will
pass it on to the CoC.

[WestNileNet] Mama Kezia Iria passed on this morning

2012-07-24 Thread Acidri David Onzima
Dear all

We have, on a sad note, heard about the passing on of Mama Kezia Iria. To all
of you who come from Mvara and got baptised there, you will probably remember
Kezia as a devouted mother and the kind of a catechist who ensured that all
baptism candidates learnt all the required lessons and passed the assessment
tests before being presented for baptism.

My deepest condolences go to his children Aluonzi Moses (0772 905093) who works
with NWSC in Soroti, Erima Jimmy 0772888119, Betty, Rachael, Opiru.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Dear all

I know many of you are aware while yet many of you may not be aware that Bishop
Joel and Can Joy Obetia will celebrate their Silver Jubilee in marruage on 28th
July 2012.

The CoC, chaired by Yikii Christopher Agatre is working very hard in Arua to
ensure that what is needed is secured.

A couple of days ago, a few of us met to see how we can raise some money to
support and be part of that function just as the Lord Bishops has been to
functions for which we have requested him to officiate here in Kampala. During
this meeting, I was asked to coordinate the fundraising campaign, which we hope
will enable us to raise some money towards the function.

It is with the aforesaid that I write to you, to seek your support in
this project within the remaining few days. You can send your contributions to
the following persons by mobile money or call any of us to collect it

1. Rev Can Stephen Gelenga 0772 0454523
2. Ejibua Sam  0772 515648
3. Obizuyo Rosette  0772511370 - Treasurer
4. Acidri David Onzima    07720331786

If you use mobile money, kindly type your names and BISHOP as the reason. This
will enable us to keep track. Your contributions of any amount will
significantly cause a change and is highly appreciated

Your contributions of any amount will
significantly cause a change and is highly appreciated.

Re: [WestNileNet] Electricity in West Nile!

2011-09-06 Thread Acidri David Onzima
Dear all

As one of my colleagues drove from Zombo towards Paidha nearly three months
ago, he had a deliberate stop over at Nyagak to assure himself of the work that
is being done at the site. In a discuss that followed, he seemed to indicate
that some tangible work has and continues to be done to ensure that the project
is completed in the very near future. This could be a misleading statement
since this guy is not a technocrat in that field.

We are all no doubt concerned about the delays in the completion of this
project that will surely ingnite many more projects in the region. I want to
suggest that let some technocrats amidst us who have planned trips to Arua,
Nebbi or Zombo spare a couple of hours to reach the project site, assure
themselves of the developments there and report to us in this forum.
Once this is done, we can then contructively discuss it and hopefully get a way
forward. We could be dwelling on this issue based on a position a year ago! In
the meantime, could Eng Afi update us on the current stage of completion of
this project.

Dear Colleagues,

I salute you all for the discussions and am well pleased for the heartfelt
expressions over the issues of our region. It is quite unlikely that there will
be equity in development knowing what it takes to achieve it when such
necessary social amenities are either being denied or politicized every time we
raise our voices or someone else comes with an option for a solution. Equally
it is ridiculous in my view too when we are made to develop a mental model of
believing any 'development program government brings, to receiving favor from a
leader'. I agree with you discussants on this matter. We are not beggars but
children of one family Uganda and we deserve equal treatment. Those of us in
the yellow bus, take these issues very objectively and understand that it is
not about gratification and praising individuals when things are done to us,
but believing in the justice of our cause, that West Nile must compete
favourably in terms of development like it is
Mbarara and other parts of the region. Am not in anyway against any Leader(s),
I love them because they are fellow Ugandans and they should not cause pain to
hearts of fellow citizens.

We have such a very enormous potential for Growth Development given
Electricity in the region. My question is, What is the way forward despite all
futile efforts being made to demand for this power?, As the saying goes-WHERE
THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY . What is left of us friends as we crave for
this right?

Hello Madam Ayikoru,

Thanks for wishing me a great week! I wish you the same. I wasn't angry at
you, rather I reacted at the idea that West Nilers may be reaping air because
they have always refused to climb the  yellow bus! That is not just what you
wrote but many people think so. To be honest, when I think about the issue of
power in our region I get mad. A Rwandan friend of mine was surprised to hear
that we have no power yet Uganda sells electricity to Rwanda and other
neighbouring countries! It should be someone lower than Museveni to talk
loosely like that not he himself to claim that we have no need of power! In
2003 the German government gave some thing like 8 or 10 million Euros to build
Olewa dam. Nobody knows where that money disappeared. On the other hand I
don't want to think about Nyagak whose story all of us know including my
friend whose life was later endangered because he was the last person to
suffer the injustice of that political bigotry that stopped
Bishop Frederick from constructing the dam. Anyhow, we hope and pray that with
time, all those people with bad heart towards us will one day go and we have
another who will hear our cry. But in the mean time, as I said earlier, nobody
should stop or intimidate us from demanding for our rights.
God bless you,
Andrua

Re: [WestNileNet] Worst Performing Districts in O_level Exams

2011-02-11 Thread Acidri David Onzima
While we should not be surprised the position many of the schools in West Nile
Region have taken in the 'worst' performing schools analysis that appeared in
the the New Vision news paper of Feb 11th 2011, I want to agree that if we have
to do something to change this trend, it should begin now.

What should we do to try change this trend?

1. Reconstitute the Fask Force that was chaired by Fr. Ruffino to look into the
poor performance of schools in the West Nile Region. The task force should
among
others be tasked to find out the academic environment, the students study in.
This should range from the location of the schools, the number of students in
each class, the availability of the relevant books in the school libraries
(if such exist), the morale of the students, the morale of the teachers, the
capability of the teachers to manage the subjects they have been assigned
to teach, the availability of the teachers to assist students after the normal
class hours, the remuneration of the teachers (for the case of private schools)
etc. Once they have completed this task, they should report for further
discussions to lay a stratefy for the way forward.

2. Encourage OB's and OG's to visit and have presentations to the students.
Such
could be done on days preceeding to the school day This, in my opinion, will
encourage the students regain the self esteem and cause them believe they
can.
I know both MOSA and St. Josephs Ombaci OB's actively participate in these
activities. The OB's from other schools should follow suit.

3. Besides #2 above, we need to supplement the efforts of the parents in
provision of some of the relevant study materials and equip the libraries so as
to reduce the ration of 1 book to  students to a fairly manageable number.
I
believe we can be able to identify the necessary books that the libraries need
to have through our firends who teach in schools within Kampala or those
schools
whose performance over time has been very good. Again, I know both MOSA and
Ombaci OB's have mobilised resources, procured a number of books and donated to
the respective schools.

As is the case in most down country schools, the management of the schools
should ask parents who are in position to buy a few key study texts for
their children to do so.

4. I would have expected the performance of the private schools to be better
since the proprietors of the schools need to know that once the performance of
the schools get to a level where the parents will not allow their children to
go
to such schools and the students will refuse to go to school, the that schools
definately closes. to my surprise again, a good number of the schools that have
performed very poorly are the private schools. The question that anyone should
ask is have such schools been established to make money or to provide the
service that the region and the students need? I believe the Education
authorities in the regions need to set up and adhere to a stringent set of
guidelines for private schools to follow if their licences are not to be
revoked. In this way, the school proprietors will know that they need to
monitor
the management and the teachers very closely.

We have very many members on this forum who have vast experience in education
management. Would you like to come out and help us to remedy the trend of
schools in WN region leading from behind?

As I conclude, we should not fail to appreciate the much that a handful of the
schools in the region have done. I would therefore like to congratulate the
students, teachers and the management of the following 10 schools from West
Nile
Region for the good results (based on our level), in the ranking as in the New
Vision of 9th February, 2011

1. Ushindi SS (number 136)
2. St. Josephs College Ombaci (number 157)
3. Mvara SS (number 161). Mvara had 32 Div1, 72 Div 2, 30 Div 3 and 14 Div 4.
Best student scored agg 17 in best 8.
4. Ediofe Girls SS (number 263)
5.St Peters and Paul seminary Pokea (number 388)
6. Mt. Wati SS (number 391)
7.Otravu SS (number 464)
8. Oleba SS (number 470)
9. Logiri Girls SS (number 522)
10. Metu SS. (number 656)

I believe we do more to improve on this performance.

Over to you.

Iganga district has the highest number of worst schools (29), followed by
Kasese

Subject: [WestNileNet] The Science Cafe Becomes of Age

Dear all,

We held yet another successful Science Cafe, the best attended and the first
for
2011 also a cafe which resulted into a resolution! Imagine each cafe churning
out a resolution, how far would we have gone... Anyway there is a saying that
there is a beginning for everything.

Discussions focused on collective funds, the power of collaboration to provide
a
means to an end, making it easier for us to think about bigger things share
bigger actionable dreams, this is what we were discussing. Our own with vast
experience Mr. Denis Aliga Mr. Jeffrey Onegi-Obel explained to us how we have
to shine together otherwise the days of lone stars are long gone! The President
WNF could not hide his excitement for this new revelation, Ms. Munduru too was
so happy to veer into new territory.

A lesson we all learned is to focus more on innovation of ideas and getting
down
to action when still hot, otherwise we face the risk of them being watered down
by “Analysis by paralysis” a common management problem. Many are aware of this
one “Boss I have a good idea” then the boss says “Please write a contemporary
concept note and professional proposals giving various scenarios/possibilities
of boosting the business - then call a meeting next quarter so that we can
discuss your idea ”. We learned that we have to be enterprising in times when
little is done by governments but more is expected of the private sector system.

For our members who could not make it, there were videos and pictures taken we
shall see how best to present these documentations online, we shall also
circulate the presentation made as soon as possible. An interim team was set up
to quickly put in place a club and engage a fund manager and Mr. Aliga offered
free technical support to get this project off the ground. Next time we should
be able to resolve on how to intervene on Agriculture, Land Degradation,
Decline
in Education standards etc etc - A big thanks to all participants, contributors
and all members.

Lastly lets extend a big thank you to Joseph Dramadri for hosting the Science
cafe at his famous club in Naalya.

Kind regards

Richard

May his soul rest in eternal peace; and may the Prince of Peace give you (the

Hi David,

Its true and I'm right now at Bugolobi medical center with a couple of friends
and he got a broken nose and two of upper teeth. Currently they are managing
the trauma and he seems stable but X-ray according to the doctor on duty can
not be done today but we are consulting to see if its aright thing to do under
this circumstance.

We shall update accordingly.

Regards,

Robert.

Dear all

I received a telepohone call this morning that Sam Ejibua was assaulted by
thugs the previous night, a couple of meters away from his residence.

Sam is said to be admitted at Bugolobi Nursing Centre, opposite Nakumat
Supermarket Bugolobi (formerly Payless Supermarket).

Can those of you who are within Kampala check on him and advise us on his
condition as among other things, his phone was taken by the thugs, thus making
communication with him impossible.

Re: [WestNileNet] Certificate of Incorporation for West Nile Foundation

2010-10-14 Thread Acidri David Onzima
Dear Caleb

I want to thank you and all who have worked hard to have the Foundation
registered as a legal entity.

I have keenly read the important discussions posted on the net. The
contributions from some of the members seem to indicate that a number of the
issues discussed are not closelt followed to the end.

I therefore want to trust that such an achievement to the rightful direction
will act as a real foundation upon which we will not only discuss, but follow
up on the issues to the end so as to achieve tangible results.

Thank you again for your hard work.

Dear All,
As Mvara Old Students Association sets the pace for mobilisation and preparions
towards the second re-union day slated for June 5th 2010. Old students and well
wishers to take note of the following;

The 1st MOSA re-union day held last year had a tremendous impact on the
discipline, committment, motivation and subsequently the performance students
and teachers as evidenced by the UCE and UACE results.
MOSA made a commitment to reward the best students and teachers of the best
performed subjects through the MOSA Awards that was launched last year and will
run annually from this year.
Planning meetings are on going and efforts to raise funds are in full gear,
members are requested to make a humble contribution of 50,000 each or more
towards this occassion to the treasurer (Abati Mickson - 0772994815) or
directly to the MOSA account at Stanbic bank IPS branch; Account name: MOSA,
Account Number: 0140598999301.
A general meeting has been called on sunday 2nd May 2010 at Choma
bar/restaurant to deliberate on other issues in this regard. Please attend this
meeting starting at 3:00pm.
Looking forward to a fruitful deliberation. Thanks and kind regards.

[WestNileNet] BREAKING NEWS ON SHARONS TREATMENT IN INDIA

2010-03-24 Thread Acidri David Onzima
Dear all

I have just gotten this breaking news that Sharon treatment has been completed
and the tests done this day now confirm Sharon Cancer FREE. There is still one
more challenge we will likely face as we await the final medical bill.

Please check your pockets and wallets for whatever monies you have in readiness
to overcome this final medical bill challenge. We will appeal to you for this
support when we cant manage it considering that you have already done a great
deal.

Its not the rightful moment for me to say thank you for all your support, but
why not receive this thank you to have a taste of the real one after she jets
to Uganda?

Dear all.

While it was a sad moment see the old lady (88 years old) burried, we got
reminded of one thing during the sermon preceeding the burial; to remember to
do good while we are yet alive.

I would like to, on behalf of the family, thank all those who contributed in
what ever way to make the service colourful.

May the good Lord bless you all as you continue to do good while you are still
