It should be fixed for new emails now. I'm not sure if it affects pre-upgrade
emails -- only incoming messages with "Transfer-Content-Encoding: 8bit" were
affected, and they appear to be in the minority.

Perhaps with sort of (selective) transclusion
(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Labeled_Section_Transclusion)?

[Bug 17328] Problems with German Umlauts on OTRS

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17328

--- Comment #3 from Tim Starling 2009-02-03 07:02:58
UTC ---
The first test case occurred before I converted the schema to UTF-8 and is
probably fixed already for new tickets. The second is apparently due to the
OTRS database incorrectly having article_plain.body being a MEDIUMTEXT instead
of, as it is in the schema file, a LONGBLOB. OTRS inserts the binary data
exactly as it came in, and MySQL truncates it at the first invalid UTF-8
character. I'm fixing this now.

The query module (e.g. userinfo) ist working regardless i use
centralauth_User/Token/Session or dewikiUsername/Token/Session as cookie.
Changing a page content using the api-edit-module only works with the local
cookie. Sending only the three centralauth-Cookies on an edit request returns a
"badtoken"-error.

Because the local cookie names and values change on each wiki it would be nice
to not relogin on every wiki.

--- Comment #5 from Gunnar Birch 2009-02-03 02:07:13 UTC ---
This bug has been filed by users of the Nynorsk Wikipedia, nn.wikipedia.org. At
no.wikipedia.org, the wiki that these persons are proposing to move, there is
widespread opposition to a move: almost twice the number of opposers compared
to those in support of a move.

It concerns me that users of the Nynorsk Wikipedia are trying to end-run the
consensus on the Bokmål Wikipedia by going directly to developers, posting on
mailing lists and so on without mentioning that the Wikipedia they are asking
to move does NOT support a move. I urge all developers not to take any action
unless without checking what the actual consensus on no.wikipedia.org is.

Since 2005, the two Norwegian Wikipedias have co-existed under peaceful
conditions, with links to each other on main pages and other sorts of mutual
agreements for the benefit of both wikis. I am dismayed to see that the Nynorsk
users are now again trying to harm the Bokmål project by forcing it to move to
an unpopular and unknown URL, instead of improving their own project, which
would be a much more constructive endeavour.

I also searched for a dupe, but couldn't find anything.

I don't agree that WONTFIX is the proper answer here. Perhaps this would be
better suited for an extension, but the ability for users to delete their own
user subpages is common among many projects.

I do think that an feature needs to be able to set pre-defined namespaces (by
default only User: and User_talk: ?) to prevent someone from trying to revoke
all of their image or redirect contributions or something silly like that.

[Bug 17331] New: "External" links within wiki should be handled separately (and not have icon)

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17331

Summary: "External" links within wiki should be handled
separately (and not have icon)
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Page rendering
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: matthew.brit...@btinternet.com

In Monobook and other skins, external links are given an icon. However, since
there is no special syntax for linking to many things within the wiki, such as
diffs, external links have to be used for these. Such links are shown with the
external link icon even though they do not, in fact, link to an external site,
which is both misleading to the user and untidy when there are lots of links.

On Wikipedia and elsewhere, a "plainlinks" class in the site CSS is used to
mitigate this, but this is something of a hack, and having to write [{{fullurl:Page_name|diff=123456789}} link] just to
link to a diff without the external link icon appearing is a bit of a mouthful.

While this is partly a skin issue, it would help if MediaWiki treated
"external" links to the wiki itself differently from other external links,
either styling them the same as interwiki links (in Monobook, same colour as
external links but no icon) or as a completely new class.

I could've sworn this was a dupe of something, but I've spent the last 10
minutes searching and can't find it.

I *do* remember though that similar requests have been shot down. A user
doesn't "own" those pages from Mediawiki's point of view, no more than they own
any other page. Suggest WONTFIX on this.

Created an attachment (id=5773)

proposed fix: clear state only if called from $wgParser

This happens, because there is only one Cite object, but two parsers ($wgParser
and $wgMessageCache->mParser). Cite->clearState() should only trigger on calls
by $wgParser, else it loses all references up to this point.

Easy fix attached.

Haven't checked for other special characters. Possibly others would cause the

[Bug 17329] Message handling in parser

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17329

--- Comment #1 from P.Copp 2009-02-02 23:53:40
UTC ---
Created an attachment (id=5772)
 --> (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5772)
Proposed patch: Use $wgMessageCache->mParser in $wgOut->parse

This patch basically does three things:
*Add ->mParsing to the Parser to keep track, if this parser is currently in
use.
*Make MessageCache's parser publicly usable
*Add a check to OutputPage::parse to switch to MessageCache's parser in case
that $wgParser is in use.

I've tested it locally and it seems that it fixes the four bugs mentioned
above.

[Bug 17329] New: Message handling in parser

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17329

   Summary: Message handling in parser
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Page rendering
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: paul.copper...@googlemail.com
Blocks: 9762,14959,16129,16744

There are some bugs open about strip markers being exposed, see bug 9762, bug
14959, bug 16129, bug 16744 (perhaps more?)
The issue seems to be always the same: Some tag extension or parser function
innocently calling wfMsgExt(..'parse'), wfMsgExt(..'parseinline') or in case of
transcluded special pages also $wgOut->addWikiText().
>From within a parse, these calls lead to recursive execution of
$wgParser->parse() and thus clearing strip state.

Some possible solutions I can think of:
* Fix all extensions and special pages that call these functions by replacing
them with the appropriate non-parsing version of wfMsgWhatever AND add a big
warning to the appropriate places to keep extension authors from using the
former.
* Use another parser for message parsing. Luckily, this is already done within
MessageCache::transform, so we could just reuse this second parser for
$wgOut->parse().
* Add an own message parsing function to the parser

The third is probably the cleanest solution, as it would also fix the
dependency of $wgTitle, but a bit hard to implement, as all the tag extensions
and parser functions would have to be changed, too.

So, for now, the second solution seems the easiest and most reasonable to me.
I'll add a patch for this in a moment, to clarify.

For some reason, meta=siteinfo shows the siprops with the word in quotes,
whereas others aren't. Can we remove the quotes to normalise the formatting
(looks better on the manual)

eg

siprop - Which sysinfo properties to get:
"general" - Overall system information
"namespaces" - List of registered namespaces and their
canonical names

uiprop - What pieces of information to include
blockinfo - tags if the current user is blocked, by whom,
and for what reason
hasmsg - adds a tag "message" if the current user has
pending messages

Thanks

The modification of the subject line was not copied onto the new system, and
consequently has not happened since the upgrade and move of OTRS.

However after some discussion, it was decided to have spam messages be
delivered to OTRS with the inclusion of a X-OTRS-Queue: Junk header,
instructing OTRS to automatically sort it into its Junk queue, rather than
having the messages be discarded by the mail server. Also SpamAssassin's
headers are now again added to the message.

I don't *think* it's acceptable to have Microsoft downloads in our SVN. Stuff
in SVN normally should be under a free software license.

Also, it's more helpful to provide a diff (ideally a unified diff created with
"svn diff", or TortoiseSVN's "Create Patch") than a whole new file -- providing
a whole new copy of the file will cause issues if there were any unrelated
changes between when you modified it and when someone tries to apply it.

Created an attachment (id=5770)

Patch file to make lsearch2 run on Windows

lsearch2 does not run on Windows because it can not deal with symbolic links. I
enhanced the implemenation of FSUtils.java (attached) to use NTFS hardlinks on
Windows. They are definitly supported on Windows XP, but should also work on
Windows 2000 and 2003 Server. Since hardlinks do not support directory links an
extra tool is needed: linkd.exe (from Microsoft). It can be downloaded for
free:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&displaylang=en

Installation:

1. Exchange the exisiting FSUtils.java file with the attached and re-compile
LuceneSearch.jar
2. Download the rktools package above and copy linkd.exe in the lsearch2
directory.

That's it.

When not logged in so you don't have comment privs, the comment list on
Special:Code is still showing 'reply' links on comments. These don't do
anything useful when you have no comment privs, since a form doesn't get shown
to you.

The links should probably be hidden when no comment privs; alternately they
could display a "you need to log in" message if it's sensible (but note
historic issues with special page params on the returnto link from the login
form... make sure it gets you back to someplace useful after!)

[Bug 17322] New: Integrate SVN and Bugzilla

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17322

   Summary: Integrate SVN and Bugzilla
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Subversion
AssignedTo: br...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mediaw...@natividads.com

Would be nice if the two are integrated together, so that:

* bug numbers are automagically linked in commit messages;
* bug status can be automatically determined from commit message (e.g. status
17322: Fixed - wishful thinking :) ).
* and tons of other bug-tracker/version control integration goodness
(http://www.mkgnu.net/scmbug)

I have used integrated SVN/Bugzillas in the past, and it really makes for a far
more efficient/traceable development workflow, and implementation and adoption
is almost invisible and transparent.

In previous projects, developers just saw properly formed commit messages (and
seeing how useful it was) they just started adopting it on their own.

I created this request primarily coz I was used to this integrated SVN/Bugzilla
workflow, where even whilst I'm developing code for a new module (like
SRF-Ploticus), I would create Bugzilla tickets for TODOs, ENHANCEMENTS and BUGS
and assign them to myself. (see bugs 17318, 17319, 17320, 17321).

The Bugzilla tickets then became a traceable log of my development backlog and
progress against it, and I used the Summary field to automagically generate the
changelog too.

Even with ViewVC, the commit messages are kinda opaque, especially for large
commits. But if developers get in the habit of creating tickets even for
things they initiate on their own, it really makes for a great way to track the
progress of a project.

And the beauty of it too, even for bugs committed by the user community, when
you say you fixed a bug, the commit message will have a link to the changeset
where the fix was implemented!

Just a suggestion,
Joel

[Bug 17320] New: Fix Ploticus-caching param interplay

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17320

   Summary: Fix Ploticus-caching param interplay
   Product: MediaWiki extensions

  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: Normal
 Component: SemanticResultFormats
AssignedTo: mediaw...@natividads.com
ReportedBy: mediaw...@natividads.com

Three params influence SRF-Ploticus Caching - liveupdating, updatefrequency and
$srfgPloticusCacheAgeHours (LocalSettings.php).

Right now, there is a dependency on liveupdating and updatefrequency. That is,
updatefrequency is ignored when liveupdating is false.

This should NOT be the case and they should be independent of each other.

Liveupdating should only trigger using the query result in generating the
hashname and nothing else.

Updatefrequency should be used regardless of liveupdating. It sets how old a
plot should be before it is regenerated.

In the case that a user wants a plot to be created once per hour plot SNAPSHOT,
liveupdating should be false and updatefrequency should be 3600. (60 x 60
secs).

In the case that a user wants a plot to be created at least once per hour so
long as the query results have not changed, liveupdating should be true and
updatefrequency should be 3600.

In the case that a user wants a plot to be created ONCE and not updated at all,
even if the query results have changed, liveupdating should be false and
updatefrequency should be 0.

Regardless, for all three cases, the global setting $srfPloticusCacheAgeHours,
if set, will overrirde and purge the cache at the given frequency so long as
srfPloticus_cleanCache.php is on cron.

Um, what? The necessary schema change is in the bug summary: "Change

-patch, -need-review. Patch was reviewed and rejected, see comment 23. Also
removing schema-change until it's clear that we need one (we could just adjust
the sortkeys in-place, perhaps).

The most straightforward solution to this seems to be to reserve the first
character of the cl_sortkey column for a namespace designator. So just make it
"c" for subcategories, "a" for articles, "f" for files. Then the three could
be paged separately. This would require some interface work too, of course. A
script would then have to be run before the change goes live, updating the
categorylinks table; until this is done, category pagination would be kind of
wonky, but there would be no other ill effects (at least if it works ;) ).

There's no way to color only a part of a text box. Also, per Rob's comment: you

and only a default summary exists. Suggest INVALID? Can't really do much here.

Makes for a useless search on this keyword, then. Unless it is combined with
"patch" and "need-review" keywords. At the moment 21 issues have keyword
"schema-change".

[Bug 17316] New: New 404 error page

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17316

   Summary: New 404 error page
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ultrab...@gmail.com

Created an attachment (id=5769)
 --> (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5769)
New error message file

The current 404 error page served by Wikimedia is ugly and has a few problems:

* It has a meta refresh on the client-side, which is pretty much universally
discouraged for accessibility purposes;
* The 'foundation' in the footer is not capitalised;
* It doesn't give the right 404 header, instead serving a "200 OK" code, which
is apparently problematic.

It is also subject to a pretty scathing critique at the following URL:

http://www.xmlplease.com/error404#h2-17

I've whipped up a new page which I think looks better and does the job better
(see attachment). It uses 3 images on Commons.

If you choose to implement this replacement, you would need to make sure to
spit out the 404 URL in the page title and in the italics paragraph, and a
modified version of this in the "check" link to whack a "/wiki/" before it
(presumably the same code that is presently used in the meta http-refresh
code). You would also need to fully protect File:Errorline.png and
File:Errorbg.png on Commons.

This new page doesn't fix the multilingual problem (serving 404s in English on
all sites), but I figure this is the sort of situation where such coding would
be done on the server side, so it would require someone with programming
abilities far above my own to implement (I don't think anyone else wants
another gigantic monster of an error message page). If this was done on the
server side, you'd be able to use the HTTP headers to ascertain the correct
language to serve, in a way that is not possible in Javascript.

[Bug 17237] Better integration of patrol feature

2009-02-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17237

--- Comment #4 from Roan Kattouw 2009-02-02 15:26:32
UTC ---
Created an attachment (id=5768)
 --> (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5768)
Proposed patch

Attached patch that:
* adds the rev_bot and rev_patrolled fields to the revision table
* adds the populateRevBotPatrolled.php script that populates them
(automatically run from update.php)
* adds support for the fields in the Revision class
** deprecates isUnpatrolled() which seems to be unused in core
* sets rev_bot and rev_patrolled appropriately when creating new revision
entries

This patch doesn't synchronize rev_bot and rc_bot for new moves, deletions and
protections, because the interface for moving/deleting/protecting with the bot
flag sucks (I intend to fix that) and doesn't sync them for old ones either
because the recentchanges entry and the associated null revision aren't linked
in any way (rc_this_oldid == 0 for these entries). It also doesn't use the
newly added fields in any way.

I intend to address the concerns mentioned above in a new patch, but in the
meantime, some review would be nice.

This is not a bug in the software. Somebody ([[User:ESanchez013]] in your case)

did it or look on your talk page to see if they've left an explanation.

r45305 on core and extension MWSearch states: "Make "did you mean" more
Googley. It wasn't prominent enough; the red text and bolding should make it
more visible, and also more familiar (since I took the styling straight from
Google). I also moved it up way to the top: it *needs* to be one of the first
things the user sees to be really useful. This was particularly terrible on
enwiki, where the enormous bloated help message means you have to scroll down
through half a page of largely useless nonsense before even seeing the
suggestion."

Doesn't that outdate this request?
