Are you able to restore Pathoschild7's edits to testwiki:Sandbox? I just
blockhid the account, thereby hiding its newest edits, and still cannot
restore
them by either unblocking or blocking with hideuser disabled.

Is this still an issue?

Maybe editing of the user page by anyone should be blocked and log entries have
the target hidden?

[Bug 18554] New: API lists no usercontribs for users blocked with 'hideuser' (but Special:Contributions does)

2009-04-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18554

Summary: API lists no usercontribs for users blocked with
'hideuser' (but Special:Contributions does)
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.15-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: API
AssignedTo: roan.katt...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: pathoschild+wmb...@gmail.com
CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com, vasi...@gmail.com

The API does not list any edits for users blocked with 'hideuser', but
Special:Contributions does. Compare the two links below:

http://fr.wiktionary.org/w/api.php?action=querylist=usercontribsucuser=Poupoule+clemou
http://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Poupoule_clemou

Ideally the API should list their usercontribs, even if it hides their name in
generic lists logs. (This is particularly relevant to m:user:StewardBot,
which checks whether they have edits to suggest unhiding.)

If there is none, they can just be disallowed.

Well, except suppression events, like page suppression, which may come in handy

For users with 'hideuser', contribs shows the edits, otherwise it doesn't. So
the issue is that the API never shows them no matter what?

Blocking edits to their userspace is a good idea. If log entries occurring
after the hiding can also be automatically suppressed as they occur (I think
that's what you're saying), that solves the problem. Second choice would be to,
as with the edits, just prevent subsequent
(un)protections/(un)deletions/(un)blocks/renames/moves on the user(space).

As long as any existing pages in the userspace are automatically deleted and
suppressed when the user is hidden, so it doesn't become impossible to remove
them after hiding, I don't see any reason to allow such events.

Now that more than one browser is affected by this problem, it would be a good
idea to find a proper solution to it... ;)

Marking WONTFIX. The HTML that is already allowed in pages/templates/etc can be
transcluded as needed. No additional HTML should be allowed (directly or
indirectly) simply because it's been protected (per comment #7).

The www.wikipedia.org template works just fine on meta, and doesn't need this
anyway.

Assigning fun sysadmin task to Fred, adding CCs for Rob and Tomasz.

The backup procedures/status chart at
http://wikitech.wikimedia.org/view/Backup_procedures needs to be audited; it
hasn't been updated in several months. Some services have been moved to new
servers, and automatic backup jobs might not have been updated; others were
last seen still pending full offsite backups, or had only ad-hoc procedures.

We want to make sure all the empty or red spots are filled in and cleaned up,
and that we have a good idea how to recover from loss of any one of these
services.

Shouldn't it be done in Bugzilla itself? May be it is fixed in newer versions
of Bugzilla and WMF should just migrate to newer version?

[Bug 18557] New: Hungarian Wikisource Proofreadpage extension namespace request

2009-04-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18557

Summary: Hungarian Wikisource Proofreadpage extension namespace
request
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
 URL: http://hu.wikisource.org
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Keywords: easy
 Severity: critical
 Priority: Normal
Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: csorfolydan...@gmail.com

Greetings!

I would like to request a configuration change on the mediawiki software
running on the http://hu.wikisource.org host servers in order to be able to use
the Proofreadpage extension correctly.

Two new namespaces need to be created, namely

Index

and

Oldal

along with their corresponding Talk page namespaces which would be

Index vita

and

Oldal vita

all the best!

Daniel Csorfoly

'Oldal' appears to be translation of 'Page'. Make sure these match up with the
enwikisource Page and Index namespace number assignments, and make sure there's
an alias for 'Page' and 'Page talk' for linking consistency.

See, for instance, Template:Time ago. This is miles off the template
limits, and is simple and effective. A specific function #time*diff* would
actually be less useful than a function that simply converts a
number-of-seconds value into a relative time, but that's not specifically what
this bug is about.

This also breaks the colon delimiters in magic words:

*Test:

{{SUBJECTPAGENAME{{#if:yes|:Talk:Foo/bar

*Expected:

Foo/bar

*Actual:

This wouldn't be a problem if the parser then recognised the split material as
a complete magic word call, but of course it doesn't. This is ugly.

Actually, what exactly would be less useful? Did you read the proposals of
behavior?

Please, don't close this as FIXED since it is not fixed in fact.

I'm also pointing to the fact that PHP 5.3.0 introduces DateTime::diff. So
basically this can be left open until a wikisyntax wrapper for that method (as
a separate extension probably - thus the entire ParserFunctions wouldn't have
to depend on high version of PHP) will be developed.

[Bug 7114] Introduce parser function

2009-04-22 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #14 from Happy-melon happy-me...@live.com 2009-04-22 20:25:36
UTC ---
With the #time and #expr parser functions we can trivially calculate the number
of seconds between two dates:

If we had a function #timeformat to match #dateformat, that converted that
string into a relative time, then you have your prettified output; as noted in
comment7, it would be nice to be able to get only a part of the output. But
such a function could also be used to, for instance, convert between units of
time (eg converts seconds to years). Of
course this can be done using #expr but guess what, so can #timeformat itself.
If you're determined to ignore the fact that this can be quite easily handled
on-wiki without any extra bells-and-whistles from the software end, the
resulting function might as well be as useful as possible.

You're right, I guess, that this bug isn't really FIXED because the available
solution is not software-based, but I'd strongly suggest WONTFIX for exactly
that reason. It's easily doable on-wiki, without bloating the code with
another myserious parser function, and without running into performance issues.

[Bug 11654] Use database instead of filesystem for updateSearchIndex.php position record

--- Comment #6 from ^demon innocentkil...@gmail.com 2009-04-23 00:46:59 UTC

Marking as INVALID.

Why?
1. Of the thousands of operations on a running Mediawiki wiki, this is
the only one that writes into the local filesystem instead of the
database.

Because it's faster than using the database, and it's no big deal.

What's wrong with that?
1. It precludes using a read only filesystem. If it were not for this
one little 14 byte file, one could use a read only filesystem.

If you're really trying to set this up rather than just spouting hypothetical
situations, then perhaps I can see the issue. Otherwise we'll end up debating
all day over an edge case no one actually has.

2. One might have several wikis using the same files:
radioscanningtw.jidanni.org - mediawiki-1.11.0
taizhongbus.jidanni.org - mediawiki-1.11.0
(yes, even the same LocalSettings.php, with appropriate switch()s
inside it.) There is no way two wikis can use the same
searchUpdate.pos.

You can specify a different position file if you absolutely must, see the docs
in the header of updateSearchIndex.php

Given test case matches for me, it's because of a buggy filter.

Remember to test against the version of the filter which was in effect at the
time, in this case,
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter/history/17/item/90

(X rlike summary) will *always* match for empty summaries regardless of what
X is.

For the expected result, reverse X and summary.
