[Bug 18562] Indicate in output whether an interwiki link is marked local

Yes, and ditto for all interwiki links marked with iw_local=0. Combined with
bug11477 this would go a long way towards restoring the semantic meaning of the
external link icon.

Just use $wgRCLinkDays

Why of course, how silly of me. $wgRCLinkDays is exactly what should
be used here! The administrator can customize it how he sees fit.
No need to expose days=0 to the user, as that will be the same as the
last choice if the administrator sets $wgRCFilterByAge=true. I could
kick myself for not seeing all this at first.

I am not sure if the licence given in the file indicates it is licenced under
the GPL. Although it gives unlimited rights to modify and sublicence it, it
does not refer to the GPL.

If it has been sublicenced under the GPL, perhaps this needs to be included in
the file. I do not find it clear if it is.

[Bug 18498] Localized namespaces for mt.wp (2)

2009-04-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #2 from Christopher djchris_porte...@hotmail.com 2009-04-30

Well, sorry for confusing you. With 'project' I was referring to the
WikiProject namespace.
But, after I had a look at our wiki, the use of Wikipedija is still good. So,
there's no need for any transaction to be made.

Now, how can I restore back the pages that were on the 'Portal' namespace
before the latter was transformed into a namespace. I was trying to use the
'Broken/' syntax before the page title but nothing worked. Examples of portal
pages on this wiki were http://mt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Sport and
http://mt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Matematika. Can you tell me what can I do?

The last question is for the last part of my first claim. The first transaction
of namespaces that was done (bug #16373), the Wikipedija_talk was supposed to
be translated into Diskussjoni_Wikipedija, but it was translated into
Wikipedija_diskussjoni which is in the wrong format. Can it be changed to
Diskussjoni_Wikipedija as it was formerly proposed.

Thanks.

[Bug 18632] New: Unwanted Arabic Roman transliteration prevents page creation

creation
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
 URL: http://ku.wikipedia.org/wiki/مارکس
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Redirects
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: erdal.ron...@gmail.com

In the Kurdish Wikipedia (http://ku.wikipedia.org) with its two scripts
(Roman/Arabic) there is an unexpected behaviour concerning non-existing
pagenames in Arabic script.

If someone looks for an Arabic script page that does not exist (for instance
مارکس ) there will be an automatic redirection to the ROman script page
with the same name (in this case: Marks).

The same thing happens in the article search, where the search for the Arabic
script page name returns the Roman script pagename. This does NOT happen when
doing a fulltext search.

This behaviour makes it impossible to start an Arabic script page by typing the
desired name into the browser's address line or the article search box if a
Roman script page with the same name exists already.

add listing of fallback language to SiteInfo/General

I think it would be nice to know which language is the fallback language
($fallback in Message.php).
This information can be used e.g. by bots to know which language should by used
on edit summary when there is no translation for the primary language.
I think it should by added to the gernal information part of Siteinfo.

I've created a patch which lists all fallback language as an array by
requesting action=querymeta=siteinfosiprop=general.

Would it be safer to extend the Oversight extension with an interface to
manually restore revisions from the oversight table? That way a current
oversighter can review the data, select which components need to be hidden, and
that it is appropriate to restore it at all (IIRC FT2 has indicated somewhere
else that there may be occasions where the aspect that needs oversighting was
the fact that the edit happened at all). Doing this en masse with a script
seems dangerous to me. How large are the oversight tables on WMF? Is it
feasible to do these restorations manually? The interface should still create
log entries in the name of the original oversighter, and at the time of the
original oversight.

I believe that the issue is that RevDelete log entries are constructed as
action target, where action is either MediaWiki:revdelete-hid or
MediaWiki:revdelete-unhid, and target is selected from
MediaWiki:revdelete-content, MediaWiki:revdelete-uname or
MediaWiki:revdelete-summary.

Why is it therefore impossible to translate? It seems from your post (although
I don't speak a word of Polish) that the phrase for hid username needs to be
ukryj nazwę użytkownika, while unhid username would be nie ukrywaj nazwy
użytkownika; the last letter of the second word is different - is this the
distinction? Is it grammatical - a different case or conjugation?

the function could almost certainly be constructed from the string functions

That extension is not available on Wikimedia wikis, presumably for performance
reasons. This particular function is needed there.

So is the rest of StringFunctions. The original performance issues are no
longer an issue (see bug6455), all that is lacking is a sysadmin to do
performance testing and deployment. Since this functionality is easily
producible if we *did* have StringFunctions, the solution to the problem is to
get that extension installed; there's no need to proliferate single-purpose
parser functions if general functionality could be made to produce the same
effect.

For example currently the file

is a risk that the uploaded has been using an vector image editor, and thus
modified the major structure of the file, which isn't necessary. I would
propose that an functionality is implemented to allow such type of file to have
an inline CSS declaration editor onto the page, which can update the CSS
without the need for an reupload. A way could be to have a tag on the page
declaring CSS to be applied to the image.

[Bug 18578] Problem with Interface translation

2009-04-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18578

--- Comment #2 from Niklas Laxström niklas.laxst...@gmail.com 2009-04-30
19:34:03 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #1)
Why is it therefore impossible to translate? It seems from your post (although
I don't speak a word of Polish) that the phrase for hid username needs to be
ukryj nazwę użytkownika, while unhid username would be nie ukrywaj nazwy
użytkownika; the last letter of the second word is different - is this the
distinction? Is it grammatical - a different case or conjugation?

Doesn't really matter. Inflection for nouns and verbs is so common that this is
a bug and should be fixed.

The question is why Chinese is showing this mostly non-useful information
compared to English translations. Translations should be translations, not
customisations. If this information would be deemed useful (I don't think it
is[1]), one language departing from the source leaves the other three hundred
languages without the improvement.

Also the number must be passed trough $wgLang-formatNum() if it were to be
used like this, but it is currently not:
$msg = wfMsgExt( 'pagecategories', array( 'parsemag', 'escapenoentities' ),
count( $allCats['normal'] ) );

[1] If people can't count the few categories there is, there is probably too
many, imho.

The fallbacks are cached individually in memcached. In the future we may
support custom fallback languages per user.

My intention was more to get the site fallbacks and not user specific fallbacks
because as mentioned above i would like to have the information for choosing
the language for edit summary (e.g. my bot has no als template but its better
to use de instead of the en one) and not for displaying customized messages
to me. If the individual lang is zh this would end up in bad summary results
on als projects.

Taking a peek patch doesn't look quite sufficient. In addition to IRC there
may be other protocols which may match with the same styling issues.

There's also an entry which looks like it's attempting to entirely turn off the
styling icons for interwikis:

/* disable interwiki styling */
#bodyContent a.extiw,
#bodyContent a.extiw:active {
color: #36b;
background: none;
padding: 0;
}

It looks like the CSS override order rules are leaving at least the IRC link
matching anyway on normal view (perhaps because of the explicit #bodyContent
a.extiw[href ^=irc://] rule), while when it's being clicked the #bodyContent
a.extiw:active selector takes over and the padding and icon can be seen to
disappear.

Perhaps removing that #bodyContent a.extiw[href ^=irc://] selector would do
the job better? Why's it even there?

Would it be sensible to set this bug up as a tracking bug? Its general
principle (phase out other forms of oversight in favour of a tweaked-up RevDel)
is blocked by most of the other bugs out there. We certainly need *a* tracker
for all this stuff; while compartmentalisation is good, we have a lot of plates
spinning at the moment.

[Bug 18616] Local evaluation of magic words for commons files

In general, when fetching remote content we prefer to have it render before
fetching. There's no guarantee that the local wiki knows how to handle all of
the magic words that the foreign one does. This can end up with poorly-rendered
content.

(In reply to comment #0)
So it would be very helpful for readers to only show the description in the
local language, using CONTENTLANGUAGE (one may even give the option to
show
other languages if desired). So this magic word would be evaluated locally.
For
other magic words, I imagine there may be reasons not to do it, we may ask at
commons about that.

FWIW, we should already be doing this. I added fetching remote descriptions
with uselang back in r46369...which btw, is a big hack for commons mostly, and
should be replaced with a more defined interface for fetching descriptions,
rather than hoping action=render gives us what we want.

Repurposing as a FileRepo bug, because it has nothing to do with language setup
@ Wikimedia, nor is it really an i18n issue at all.

I don't think it has any entries now that it didn't before; it's just that I
only listed the existing Wiktionaries (minus English, because it's us, and Toki
Pona, because it has no entries and is closed). But if it won't cause problems
for the list to include prefixes that currently only have Wikipedias, not
Wiktionaries, then sure, I guess we might as well include them against the
possibility that they'll someday have Wiktionaries.

[Bug 18638] New: Update fixUserRegistration.php to use newuserlog (where available, prior to r12207), and gaussian estimates for the fossils

2009-04-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18638

Summary: Update fixUserRegistration.php to use newuserlog (where
available, prior to r12207), and gaussian estimates for
the fossils
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.15-svn
 Platform: All
 URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Logdi
r=prevtype=newusers
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Maintenance scripts
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: h...@goldrush.com

User's created before r12207 who have no edits until after r12207 are not
assigned guessed data for user.user_registration. This is not critical but
often is very confusing and sometimes wildly inaccurate. There are several
months worth of data on Wikimedia wikis in the new user log from the extension
(see r10573 ) that could populate this data.

Also, for users prior to even the extension, a gaussian curve could be plotted
from the data of available edits and log entries (all of which would be after
the creation date) and normalized to a curve or wave of user creation date/ID.

Awaiting WONTFIX!
