https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20768 --- Comment #4 from Siebrand siebr...@wikipedia.be 2009-09-23 06:09:48 UTC --- Per Tim Starling on mailing list[1]: I've been working on a rewrite of the script loader and a reorganisation of the JS2 stuff. I'd like to delay 1.16 until that's in and tested. Brion has said that he doesn't want Michael Dale's branch merge reverted, so as far as I can see, a schedule delay is the only other way to maintain an appropriate quality. [Bug 20774] Enabling LocalisationUpdate vastly increases CPU activity
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20774 Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||roan.katt...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2009-09-23 07:12:38 UTC --- Note that l10nupdate's installation triggers invalidation of the l10ncache, causing it to be rebuilt from scratch. Try making a whitespace change to MessagesEn.php and syncing that, then see what the resulting CPU spike looks like. Also, please investigate how well-synchronized the Apaches' clocks are. (In reply to comment #0) Not deployable in this state; CPU usage needs to be tracked down and cleared up. Is it breaking the cache infrastructure, or is pulling extra stuff from DBs when we've got main localization in CDB files inefficient? I'll look into the CPU usage; debug logs from earlier local test runs show that l10nupdate is not pulling localizations from the DB once all its stuff is in the l10ncache, however. Offhand, I think the dependency check may hit the DB, but that shouldn't double CPU usage AFAICT. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 164] Support collation by a certain locale (sorting order of characters)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164 --- Comment #108 from Anon Sricharoenchai anon@gmail.com 2009-09-23 08:53:12 UTC --- (In reply to comment #107) The key generation module may be implemented as an extension, so that the core mediawiki installtion will not be architecture dependent nor require additional dependency. This extension will just do the task of key generation, mediawiki core will then put the generated key in the field categorylinks.cl_sortkey. It also need the script maintenance/updateSortkey.php to be invoked when this extension is added or removed. How do you think about this idea? Hmm, we cannot store this generated key in categorylinks.cl_sortkey, since the firstChar() of the original key is needed in rendering the Category pages. Seems that, we really need to add additional field in table categorylinks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 164] Support collation by a certain locale (sorting order of characters)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164 --- Comment #110 from Le Chat cat...@vp.pl 2009-09-23 10:38:58 UTC --- I find it rather disheartening that this very simple thing has not been solved after so many years (how is it conceivable that software designed for encyclopedias and dicionaries can't even get alphabetical order right?) Here's how I would do it (this is all just abstract thought): have a new column in the table of pages, to contain a unique key: X__Y, where Y is the page title, and X is some language-dependent function of Y which represents Y alphabetically. For example, for English, the function would convert all letters to the same case, convert modified letters (diacritics and so on) to their basic unmodified form, strip out most punctuation, probably strip out spaces too (though there are alternative approaches to spaces). Then alphabetical indexing of the table (sorry, don't know exactly what I mean, but whatever is used to generate the contents lists at Special:PrefixIndex/AllPages) would be based on this new column, not on the page title itself, and the value in this column would also be passed as the category sort key. This way you solve two problems at once - the contents lists and the categories (the preceding suggestions seem to relate to the categories only). AND it can probably be leveraged to improve search/Go (to avoid the need to create redirects to titles with diacritics and so on). Don't know if this is any use, but anyway, I hope someone can get these very basic issues solved soon. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

That string is part of a valid MIDI instruction. But the customized keys are in the page ↔ category relationship, not on the page itself, i.e. one page can have more than one sort key, e.g.: [[Category:Lists|Foo]] [[Category:Foo|*List of foos]] So that your point that you would create a new column “in the table of pages”, is not a sufficient solution. [Bug 20774] Enabling LocalisationUpdate vastly increases CPU activity
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20774 --- Comment #3 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2009-09-23 20:13:28 UTC --- Hopefully fixed with the rewrite in r56831. Basically, the two major culprits were: 1. the code checking the timestamp of the last update.php run (to determine whether to rebuild the l10ncache) pulled stale data from the slaves, and wasn't smart enough to use queriedTimestamp expectedTimestamp instead of != 2. the initial update.php run inserted about a million rows in each of the 5 per-cluster localisation tables, using a separate REPLACE statement for each row; this presumably slowed down replication and worsened #1. LU now uses a file-based storage system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14801 --- Comment #29 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2009-09-23 20:14:37 UTC --- Couple quick notes... The patch doesn't apply cleanly against development trunk; lots of stuff has changed internally since 1.15, so this'll be a lot easier to get merged if it's rebuilt against trunk instead of a release branch. I also see some code duplication, copying portions of the UI output between the can-restore and can't-restore cases. This is easy to do the first time around, but makes code maintenance harder -- the copies can get out of sync easily, and generally just clutter the codebase. I would recommend merging the two cases together; just don't output the form fields when they won't be needed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
