[Bug 22041] New: Animated GIFs thumbnailed as still images even when smaller than the cutoff limit
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22041 Summary: Animated GIFs thumbnailed as still images even when smaller than the cutoff limit Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Images and files AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: ro...@robertrohde.com CC: gpaum...@wikimedia.org, innocentkil...@gmail.com Recently thumbnailing of GIFs was re-enabled on Wikimedia sites after new code was added to count the frames in animated GIFs. Reading the code it appears that currently two checks are intended to determine whether a GIF should be thumbnailed. First, if height*width*frames $wgMaxImageArea then Bitmap.php aborts and no thumbnail is attempted. Secondly, if height*width $wgMaxAnimatedGifArea then Bitmap.php returns only the first frame. The default values for these parameters are 12.5 million and 1 million respectively, and they do not appear to have been changed in Wikimedia's CommonSettings.php file. Now there appear to be two issues here. First, since we are now counting GIF frames, is there a reason for still having the second check? My understanding is that the lower limit was added in the days before frame counting to trap large animated GIFs with many frame before they could crash the thumbnailer. Now that we count frames, isn't the first check sufficient for that? Secondly, and the more immediate reason for this bug report, it appears that Wikimedia is showing single frames for some animated GIFs even if their size is definitely less than one megapixel. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Phenakistoscope_3g07690a.gif http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Swimapod4.gif http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Action_potential_propagation.gif Each of these is an animated GIF with an area less than 1 megapixel but the thumbnails shown on the image description page (and anywhere else thumbnails appear) show only a still image. Hence they appear to have triggered the second conditional even though they shouldn't have if the sizes are being accurately handled and the limit is still set at the default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 22037] Advanced Formatting for Query Tables
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22037 --- Comment #1 from Jack D. Pond jack.p...@psitex.com 2010-01-07 17:00:38 UTC --- Yoran made a suggestion that this might be an issue on more than format=table, and possibly should be included as a generic feature for format=template rather than just format=table (e.g., allow headertemplate for all template types). I think this is a good idea, but of course I wish I'd thought of it before I implemented in SMW_QP_Table.php. In looking at it last night, this would take some work, and impact all of the SMW_QP_*.php files. The reason we originally explored this extended functionality is because we were creating headers (and footers) for tables and using the format=template in the articles/pages directly. HOWEVER, this really fell apart when you reach the ...further results, formatting does not carry into the Special:Ask, which it will do under proposed changes. Another thing we discovered is that parameters passed in the original query were also not forwarded in the ...further results link and in many, if not all cases, the special results printers returned HTML (to reduce reparsing), while allowing templates pretty much requires WIKI returns. Finally, the use of a custom headertemplate pretty much mandates that you also have a custom footertemplate (think of the header/footer as an envelope for the content). If you deal only with tables, the footer can always be simply be a terminate table (|}), but with other types of headers, not so much. With all of these factors combined it was easier just to deal with format=table[broadtable] rather than all the possible permutations. If the consensus it that we should do for format=template, it's going to take a lot more work, but I'll abide by the decision and make it happen (ughh). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 22037] Advanced Formatting for Query Tables
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22037 --- Comment #2 from Jack D. Pond jack.p...@psitex.com 2010-01-07 17:09:47 UTC --- Other factors for consideration: 1. During the development, realized that parameters passed to query, were not being forwarded in the ...further results link. This can cause problems. Should this be addressed on a more generic basis, e.g., automatically forward ALL params for all format= types? 2. There were several XSS/Injection vectors in this code, that I think I closed. Should a more thorough review be done? 3. In the custom SMWResultPrinter (SMWTableResultPrinter) one of the initiating parameters is $outputmode, which in Special:Ask is set to SMW_OUTPUT_HTML. To allow wiki syntax templates, I overrode this requested format by setting $this-isHTML to false when a template is used, which seems to work fine and re-parses for wiki code. Note: Without one or both of the template parameters, the returned result is HTML and no re-parsing is set or done. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

Initially only a portion of images seemed to be affected, but that seems to have been an artifact of the sporadic distribution of whatever process(es) were running around updating thumbnails. Using the purge function to force thumbnail updates appears to show that all new attempts to thumbnail animated GIFs are resulting in only the first frame being selected. There needs to be at minimum read-only API access to CentralAuth's public data, that is: 1) List of global groups, and their associated rights. (Analogous to Special:GlobalGroupPermissions) 2) Global user list, most importantly, the users in a particular group. (Analogous to Special:GlobalUsers) 3) Global logs -- blocks, group membership changes, and global account locking/hiding. (Analogous to Special:Log/gblblock etc.) 4) List of wiki sets, and the wikis in each. (Whatever the stewards see on Special:EditWikiSets, without the editing) Currently only 3) is available, by virtue of integration with the standard logs. 4) currently seems to be completely hidden from public view, something that I see absolutely no reason for. I guess I'll have to address that separately and be ignored as usual. There needs to be at minimum read-only API access to CentralAuth's public data, that is: 1) List of global groups, and their associated rights. (Analogous to Special:GlobalGroupPermissions) Would be nice. We also don't have a module for Special:Listgrouprights (the local equivalent), that would be nice to have too (in core, of course). 2) Global user list, most importantly, the users in a particular group. (Analogous to Special:GlobalUsers) Makes perfect sense. 3) Global logs -- blocks, group membership changes, and global account locking/hiding. (Analogous to Special:Log/gblblock etc.) As you said, this is already available. 4) List of wiki sets, and the wikis in each. (Whatever the stewards see on Special:EditWikiSets, without the editing) Sounds reasonable; we would need to confirm that this data can indeed be made public, and it'd also be nice to just go ahead and expose it in the UI as well. Concievably there could also be write-mode modules for these things but I think the stewards can manage without that. Write modules would be of very limited use: there's not many users with the right permissions, and I don't see why bots would want, need or even be allowed to modify stuff here. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 21844] DOM preprocessor barfs on headings inserted by parser functions
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21844 --- Comment #8 from Tim Starling tstarl...@wikimedia.org 2010-01-08 02:59:06 UTC --- The problem is the fact that at Parser.php line 2900 (r60825), $isChildObj is set without $title being set. This is incorrect, you can't have a child object with no title. This causes line 2995 to create an invalid frame with $title=null, which then throws fatal errors under various circumstances. This behaviour of $noparse was apparently added to support DPL2 in r34594, although DPL2 has since stopped using it. I'm not sure if it set $title. Theoretically LST could use it (if it set $title correctly) but it doesn't. It doesn't really make sense to use $isLocalObj, since that would give you non-functional edit section links for the current page. If you were getting text from another page and including it like a template, then $isChildObj could make sense, since it would give you edit section links to the other page, if you set $title. If the text doesn't come from an editable page at all, then we probably need to have a flag which can be sent to expand() to suppress the generation of heading markers. So, Jani, can you please explain your application, particularly what sort of text it is that you're trying to expand? And in that text, what do you expect triple-braces to do? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 22050] New: Firefogg to transcode batch of files
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22050 Summary: Firefogg to transcode batch of files Product: mwEmbed Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Firefogg AssignedTo: d...@ucsc.edu ReportedBy: rigo...@yahoo.com can there be an option in firefogg to trascode multiple files? Firefogg is a great idea; however, if it doesn't allow the user to encode many files, whether in queue or simultaneously, it can be very tedious for people to use to transcode a video library and detrimental to the development of Firefogg. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
[Bug 22035] newlines arent being showed in some cases with usability iniative editor
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22035 --- Comment #4 from Christopher Baker slithyto...@gmail.com 2010-01-08 07:36:41 UTC --- I believe I have tracked down the source of this bug. UsabilityInitative/js/plugins/jquery.wikiEditor.html has 'white-space:pre-wrap;' in it's style. According to w3, that means 'Whitespace is preserved by the browser. Text will wrap when necessary, and on line breaks.' When testing this on separate pages in IE and FF, it seems that IE treats this the same as 'normal'. Changing this to wrap does not fix the problem, though. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
[Bug 22051] New: Check return value of hook SpecialContributionsBeforeMainOutput in SpecialContributions
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22051 Summary: Check return value of hook SpecialContributionsBeforeMainOutput in SpecialContributions Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.16-svn Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Keywords: patch Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Special pages AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: m...@tgries.de The return value of hook SpecialContributionsBeforeMainOutput in SpecialContributions is not checked. This means, that external users using this hook can currently not return a false value in order to abort the main processing (rendering the form and list of contribution). I added an if() statement - see patch - in conformity to similar hooks in other modules. With the patch, false stopps the processing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
