Please repeat the
"Mark as read" button link at end of each list.
You usually decide to mark a series of messages as read once you've read it,
and you usually are at the end of a list once you've read it.
Having to scoll back for marking them read is a waste of time.

I also suggest to convert this link to a real link.
Making it a pseudo button or button lookalike was a bad design decision, imho.
If it was a link, one could use the "open in another window/tab" feature of
browsers having that, and continue reading with other messages unmolested
from pages with newly arranged lists of message popping up, while
otherwise one has to wait for them to display which is another
real waste of time.

IMO, if there was good reason of why such a fallback ({{commons:Template:fa}})
was not implemented for images ([[Commons:File:Fa.jpg]]), then it should
probably apply to templates too...

IMHO, I think Commons should be the only "repository" of content. Enabling full
cross-wiki transclusion would create unnecessary confusion...

Actual results:
1. 'Search' text is not deleted from the text box.

2. Font size and font color changed.

Expected results:

At English Wikisource, and also known at other WMF sites, there is a person
from an Indian ISP who likes to undertake shock tactics of posting images of a
sexual nature on pages in other wikis, especially user talk pages (which is a
bit disquietening when at work or when children are working with you).

Blocking IP ranges can be ineffectual due to the dynamic IP ranges, and the
vastness of some IP ranges managed by a provider; and blocking individual
images is problematic for the numbers in the system and totally reactive.  It
would be useful to have a more effective mechanism to control the images of a
sexually explicit nature across wiki. One means that I see that could be
effective is to block images based upon categories or their subsequent position
in a category tree.  Alternatively images that are in certain categories are
able to be dynamically grabbed, and held in a universal do not show file that
wikis could turn on or off the use of that file.

I am open to other solutions, with the outcome that there is the ability to
(b)lock the use of images that are irrelevant to a site.

Activation takes less than one man-hour, that's not the problem. I think
Brandon wants to hold off because significant parts of LQT are being refactored
and redesigned in the coming weeks/months.

Updated problems:
Using Firefox 3.16.3 & Vista:
1. I am logged out.
2. Clear browser cache
3. Navigate to en.wikipedia.org - not logged in
4. I log in (not "remember me") and get the "Login successful" message.
5. Click on [[Special:Watchlist]] and get the "Not logged in" message.
 - - -but - - -
1. I am logged out.
2. Clear browser cache
3. Navigate to https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Special:UserLogin
4. I log in(not "remember me") and get the "Login successful" message.
5. Click on [[Special:Watchlist]] and remain logged in & every connection after
that is still on the https/secure server (not just the login).
- - - If - - -
1. I am logged out.
2. Clear browser cache
3. Navigate to en.wikipedia.org - not logged in
4. I log in (not "remember me" and get the "Login successful" message.
5. Click on [[Special:Watchlist]] and get the "Not logged in" message.

In Google Chrome 8.0.552.237:
1. I am logged out.
2. Clear browser cache
3. I log in (not "remember me") and get the "Login successful" message.
4. I click on [[Special:Watchlist]] and remain logged in.

In IE 8.0.16385:
1. I am logged out.
2. Clear browser cache
3. I log in (not "remember me") and get the "Login successful" message.
4. I click on [[Special:Watchlist]] and remain logged in.

This is all on the same computer; so if it were just me I'd think it was
browser specific.  BUT, with all of the other reports and my prior experience,
that gets thrown out the window. 
My 2 cents; hope it helps!

Indeed.  This is just the default mailing list settings for new lists.  I
already make these changes whenever I create a new mailing this, this is just
making the list creation process easier. :-)

Most of our mailing lists will want the reply-to set to the list itself, so it
makes sense to make that the default.

{{SUBPAGENAME}} returns the base page name when no subpage exists, even when
subpages are allowed (such as Template: space on en:wiki). This causes lots of
templates to spew out ugly errors (see URL, where {{SUBPAGENAME}} is used
within #time:), which could be avoided. I cannot see the use of returning the
base page in these cases; it should return nothing when there is no subpage.

I just went to English Wiktionary, using Google Chrome 8.0.552.237, and clicked
on "Log in / create account"[1]. Then I checked "Remember my login status on
this computer" and "logged in". Immediatelly after that, clicking on
[[Special:Watchlist]] I got "Not logged in".

Thinking about this, well making redirects green would be kind of cool, it'd
only make sense if all redirects were green, and that'd be a pretty major UI
change.

Maybe instead of doing that, we should make redirect categories be italic in
the list at the bottom of the page. This would fit in with our redirects in
system-generated lists (Category pages, prefixindex, and special:allpages) are
italic. Thoughts?

What I'd recommend is that there be documented ways to mark sections of a page
as to be hidden for mobile or marking that something can be optimized in a
particular way. CSS classes are probably good for this.

The mobile interface is a proxy application which lets MediaWiki render basic
page text, then modifies it to optimize for small screens and puts it in a
mobile-specific user interface. Wiki pages have no way of "knowing" inherently
that they're being viewed in another way; modifying the styles (and sometimes
markup) is the mobile proxy's job.


{{SERVER}} and {{SERVERNAME}} are keywords in wiki syntax which return the
wiki's hostname (in the former case including the protocol prefix). They are
sometimes used by templates to generate arbitrary links to something on the
site, which isn't always a super safe practice but can be handy.

If constructing an arbitrary link in a wiki page, doing it with the canonical
URLs is probably the right thing to do -- you don't know that the mobile proxy
will have such a link at its domain.

I haven't looked at this particular bug very closely, but r80430 (and possibly
other commits) seem related. This bug could probably be a blocker of bug 529 or
something. As Yaron notes, it's likely an issue with MediaWiki and not this
particular extension, but that doesn't necessarily mean this bug is invalid.

I have been trying to duplicate this with Google Chrome 8.0.552.237 (Official
Build 70801) and not having any luck.  Try upgrading?

Resolved in r80656 by replacing JSMin with a new library called
JavaScriptDistiller, which is essentially an improved version of the
minification step that JavaScriptPacker uses before doing it's evil packing
magic.

This doesn't occur every time, but when updating an existing section of a page
sometimes an edit conflict will be reported when the only change that appears
will be the change I made. There is no specific timeframe and it can even
happen after edits I myself have made.

This does not happen when creating new sections in talk pages, nor is it easily
reproducible as it appears to be random, but it has happened on numerous
occasions.

While someone might someday make a dark style for some purpose, it wouldn't be
done in core for the purpose of saving electricity, as this bug entry suggests.

I don't understand - that page
(http://scratchpad.referata.com/wiki/Bullet_Test) clearly shows both the
problem, and the solution for it - the template field just needs to be on a new
line. Even if you think a newline shouldn't be required, that's a MediaWiki
issue, not an SMW one.

Guys, as can be seen on the above scratchpad.referata example I did, this is
NOT the template. You can see there is no space in the template.

This has been a really long standing issue. It would to get to the bottom of it
once and for all.

issues in IE.

I could not reproduce the issue, it was probably a bug in upstream packages.
Seems very unlikely to be a bug in MediaWiki.

I was trying to see if Bug #23694 still existed for 1.17 (since it has
apparently resurfaced in svn) so I ran 1.17 web installer twice against the
same database without creating a LocalSettings.php file.  The second time
through, it didn't properly sense the database schema but gave the following

Yes, I still have the problem.
I tried to login on en.wikibooks using Google Chrome 8.0.552.200 beta and right
after getting the message "Login sucessful", and going to
[[b:Special:Watchlist]], I was not logged in again.

Sometimes the logout only happens after some minutes, when I change to another
wikimedia project.

@localhost email addresses.  Might only want to allow that where people
specifically request it.

I have met a problem for now about one week, under various OS and browsers in
various locations.

I have a SUL account, valid except on the '':en'' Wikipedia where the account
name is occupied by some other user. I log on on some project, generally
'':fr'' Wikipedia (the bug happens also if I log on somewhere else) ; when I
upload a page on '':en'' Wikipedia, my session under my SUL account expires and
I have to log in again on '':fr'' (or any other project).

The problem does _not_ arise if I log on on an account proper to '':fr''
Wikipedia, or if I log on on the https server.

mail() should usually be fast: this shells out to sendmail (or equiv) which
ships the message into an outgoing queue managed by the mail server. It could
be slow on Windows (where mail() actually calls out to an SMTP server
directly), or if the local MTA sendmail binary does odd or slow things.

A better mail queuing thingy might be nice, but I'm pretty sure we've done this
for the last 8 years plus or minus, so probably not a blocker.

use of the jobqueue.

One might also consider interactive debugging helpers -- these days devs pretty
much always have either Firebug or the more basic debug consoles available in
current Firefox, Chrome/Safari/WebKit, Opera, and IE 8+.

We could query the configuration info in a console at runtime -- or even
trigger a visual display of what vars & modules have been set up. These would
have the advantage that you could activate them at any time, without having to
switch the page to debug mode to view source.

We use json_encode, so it's minified from the get-go, but we could use
something like this
http://recursive-design.com/blog/2008/03/11/format-json-with-php/ when in debug
mode.
