On pages that use LiquidThreads, threads include an image of a
downward-pointing arrow used to collapse the thread. After a thread is
collapsed, the background of the A tag which had the downward-pointing arrow
switches to url(../images/thread_collapse_control_collapsed-ltr.gif), which
does not exist, making it difficult to figure out how to uncollapse the
section.

In a mobile site's main page, headers above sections come from the element's
"title" attribute. Thus, in certain circumstances, in order to have the mobile
homepage display correctly, the non-mobile homepage must have these elements
have unwanted tooltips coming from the title attribute. Since the title
attribute is already occupied, it would be better to have the headers above
sections come from either a different attribute, or perhaps be added in a
different way entirely.

Out documentation is slightly outdated for that, It's currently along the lines
of "Disable database heavy services, so that they can be managed/controlled
separately if desired (for services that permit it (for example: special page

The documentation is wrong, then. $wgMiserMode has been used as a generic
"don't do expensive DB queries" setting for a long time.

The special page gets really hard to use without this feature.
The rationale is very poor.
In case we really need to save DB resources, is this less useful and more
expensive than "Only show edits that are latest revisions", for instance?
Also, it doesn't make much sense to me to use $wgMiserMode for this: if the
documentation is correct, MiserMode just delays functioning of some query
special pages, making them less up to date but not totally unusable. Another
configuration variable should be used.

I know, that's my main objection to doing this (Current bad image list isn't
meant to filter based on people's wishes, its meant to stop certain types of
vandalism. We shouldn't be mixing and matching purposes imho).

I don't think this makes sense: either the wiki uses local templates or it
doesn't, you can't have a double system in place.
Local unmaintained templates should be deleted, or you can ignore them with a
single edit to MediaWiki:babel-template. See also

I've already said in my original message that it should be based on a user
preference.

If the image filter does 'server-side' suppression so that images are filtered
out before being requested, then this 'bug' can be closed.

Also some way of allowing external filters to suppress images based on content
flags in HTTP headers would also be appreciated, but that's probably more of
a technical issue with HTTP itself, then Mediawiki :)...

I don't think that's a good idea. The badimage list's primary purpose is to
stop shock images from being used outside of the article which they are meant
to illustrate, not to generally hide such images. If we don't want images
displayed at all, we should either not upload them, or we should have some
custom extension to do fine grained filtering based on user preference (And
since it sounds like the wmf plans to fund making such an extension (or at
least I think they are. I'm not following the massive amount of drama
surrounding the personal image filter), we should just wait for that).

[Bug 31161] User override of templates

2011-10-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31161

--- Comment #2 from Brendan McClure 2011-10-02
21:00:28 UTC ---
No. Presently first checks whether Template:User fr-2 exists,
if it does it transcludes it, and if it doesn't then it generates the babel box
on the fly. The problem is that some wikis have a large number of babel
templates which aren't properly maintained, so you end up with mismatched
colors and styles and badly worded texts. I would like something like
which would skip checking for a Template:User fr-2 and just
generate a babel box on the fly.

If we could set the categories through a MediaWiki message (like
""), they could easily be customized for
whatever system each community desires.

Patch from 2007, 4 years ago. Really Database::update should take $tables array
and $join_conds, just like Database::select does.

My scenario, update touch on all pages belonging to a category: UPDATE page
INNER JOIN categorylinks SET page_touched = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP() WHERE
page.page_id = categorylinks.cl_from AND categorylinks.cl_to =
'MyCategoryName';

On Commons
(https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Forum#Einstellungen_bei_Neulingen)
there was the request that it would be great to have an option to watch the new
file, which is ticked by default to make new users see what is happening with
their files or just watch by default. Unwatching is easy so this should not be
very controversial.

Add something to
http://svn.mediawiki.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/UploadWizard/resources/mw.ApiUploadHandler.js
? E.g.

_this.addFormInputIfMissing( 'watchlist', 'watch' );

If there are no objections, a patch will follow.

AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

I don't have a better title as I have no idea what exactly happened.

Steps that lead to this bug:
* A page was created in 2007 (nl:Blankenbach)
* An edit was made in 2007
* 4 edits were made in 2011
* A sysop wanted to get rid of those 4 'test' edits. Done so by deleting the
page and restoring the first 2 revisions only. This went well. The page was now
visible on action=view with that second edit as page_latest
* Another sysop (me) wanted to undo that so that those 4 test edits are
publically in the history (since they were permalinked from a bug report).
Since MediaWiki doesn't allow restoring revisions that are newer than
page_latest (I tried, but failed properly), I deleted the entire page again and
this time restored all revisions.

Result:
* Page can't be viewed (nl:Blankenbach), MediaWiki error about page not
having content
* When viewing a diff of the latest edit [1] there is a link to the "next
revision" even though there is no next revision.
* Page can't be edited (everlasting edit conflict)

Although the extension takes care of the creation of them, some might prefer to
have a single category per language rather than a bunch of categories which
clutter the wiki and are hard to navigate.
In this case, users should be sorted by reversed language level so that native
speakers are listed first and so on, as in Meta (more ideas on [[m:Template
talk:User language category]]).

Bug #: 31310
 Summary: I can't access mobile.wikipedia.org since October 1,
2011. My browser gives me a parser error.
 Product: Wikimedia Mobile
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: blocker
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: devices
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: barry...@hotmail.com

Classification: Unclassified

I am using a Samsung SCH-U430 cell phone to access the moblle version of
Wikipedia. The URL that I have always used is http://mobile.wikipedia.org. All
of a sudden the link won't work today, I get the error message "Parser Error".
My phone is using Obigo Browser Q04C1-1.22 built on Apr 27 2010. I have tried
other URL's such as m.wikipedia.org, en.mobile.wikipedia.org, and
en.m.wikipedia.org. They still give me the same parser error. I also notice
that that mobile Wikipedia site is a beta version. Can anybody help me out to
get mobile Wikipedia working again on my phone? All my other bookmarks and
other websites that I go to work as before.

Neill - I believe I just fixed this now, in SVN; thanks for the bug report.

MWJames - I think in your #formlink call, you need to change "&target=" to
"|target=" - 'target' is a separate parameter. That might not solve the
problem, though - it looks like your "UUID" value holds more than just a
string. Maybe it should be "{UUID}" instead?

In any case, I'm marking this as "fixed". Feel free to re-open.

I don't like the idea of flipping photographs. A flipped image isn't the same
as moving the perspective, you mirror it. Any text in the image will be the the
wrong direction for the language it's in (rather the characters will be
mirrored so no text will ever be the right way). And you mirror the person's
face, any facial features such a mole on the left side of a person's face will
now be on the wrong side of their face.

Comment 20 states "This bug was for a feature to be developed. It exists now,
so this bug should remain closed."

But r86155 states it was backed out "until somebody has the time to work on it
again".

Are there issues? What has to be done to get any issues related to its backing
out resolved, and the code enabled on a test wiki so it can be this reviewed
(per r86155 comment) re-added and enabled on a test basis for people to play
with?

Hello,

The status of this problem is resolved-fixed, but the fallback language on the
Assamese Wikipedia is still Bengali.

[Bug 31306] New: Revisions should store page title at the time that revision was created

Bug #: 31306
Summary: Revisions should store page title at the time that
revision was created
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.19-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: History/Diffs
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mediawiki-b...@nadir-seen-fire.com
Classification: Unclassified

Right now if you create page A then move it to B, when you visit an
oldid from when the page was "A" the title shows "B".

We should store a copy of page_namespace and page_title in the revisions table
so that when viewing an old page the ui can inform the user of what the title
was at that point in time.

[Bug 31237] Interference between SemanticForms and Property Page

2011-10-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31237

--- Comment #1 from Yaron Koren 2011-10-02 09:39:38 UTC ---
I can't explain that behavior - the "next 25" link is not a red link, so
there's no reason why SF would replace it. This is definitely strange. Have you
modified your version of MediaWiki or SF in any way, that might have caused
this behavior?

[Bug 31305] New: Create "priority fallback language"

This was isolated from bug 11267 comment 12 and following.

Some localisations depend on their respective fallback languages.
Without them, they were incomplete. These fallback languages need
to be consulted prior to any other fallback language, most notably
user specified ones.

For instance, "nl-formal" only has messages that directly address
users, all other messages are in "nl".
"arz" mainly localizes computerese terms, much of the rest comes
from "ar",
Both "nl" and "ar" are (very) complete localizations.

As a side note:
Message lookup should return a language code (with directionality)
that can be used as the value the (X)HTML lang attribute specified
in the HTML container containing the message text.
The two examples above differ somewhat as to which language
code they should or must return for that use. Since "nl-formal"
is not in BCP 47, returning it must be avoided, and "nl" is
the only proper choice for both "nl" and "nl-formal".
Not so with "arz" and "ar", which both are acceptable, but
"arz" should imho be preferred for consistency, which is just
the opposite choice compared to "nl-forma" and "nl".

We're getting tons of complaints at Commons. Would be nice if this could be
solved.

Changing name from "SForms misreads template parameters" to "Semantic Forms
mishandles templates that have both named and numeric parameters", for clarity.

[Bug 27775] namespace should have it's own XML tag

2011-10-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27775

--- Comment #6 from Ariel T. Glenn 2011-10-02 07:38:42
UTC ---
This patch looks ok to me.

Bear in mind that it's possible for the namespaces to change in the middle of a
run, for example if a custom namespace is added to accomodate content that the
community wishes to move out of the main namespace. That won't happen often
but dump users will probably get bitten by it once in awhile.
