In the original example the table ended with |-}, C was some amount of text
including headlines etc., the table appeared at the very end of the article.

These functions (if the bug fixed) allow to represent either creation or modification date in UTC or user-preferred timezone, virtually any format, including format preferred by user. First time it matters, I have to admit I overlooked this. I think until Smarty 3 rewrite will happen, pathing problem can be solved by introducing a new variable, e.g. $wgWidgetsCompiledTemplates which admins can set to $wgCacheDirectory/widgets_compiled_templates or something like that, making sure the folder is writable. I think the new variable does not necessarily needs to be set during installation (making it adjustable is a plus of course). $wgCacheDirectory is writable by webserver/php if it is used at all. Thus the folder can be easily created in the code. Err... Not exactly. English aliases are accepted if $m_useEnDefaultAliases is
true. Which is true for all languages but English.
It would be better to have $smwgPageSpecialProperties[] = '_CDAT'; to keep
LocalSettings.php language independent.
My original intention was similar:
$smwgPageSpecialProperties['_CDAT'] = true;
because
1. It allows direct access:
if ( $smwgPageSpecialProperties['_CDAT'] ) {
...
}
2. There is no need to take care about duplicates. SMW administrator can
mistakenly do
$smwgPageSpecialProperties[] ='_MDAT';
for already enabled property, so when looping through properties special care
should be done not to proceed the same property twice.
But Jeroen proposed current implementation.
Not really. You are mixing up 2 things now. I proposed having the current array
with values instead of having the props as keys with associated boolean values.
I did never argue for having the internationalized name of the prop be accepted
in this setting. In fact, like Markus, I argued _against_ it.

But if you use User Interface strings like Creation date in LocalSettings.php, it means that SMW first has to do a language (alias) lookup to understand its own configuration. This is not desirable: the configuration should be directly machine readable as it is. Otherwise, machine cycles will be wasted in each request just for evaluating the configuration (and this effort is not reduced by bytecode caching which otherwise reduces the effort of reading LocalSettings.php on each run). We could define a PHP constant that is more readable, but as Jeroen said above, this would mean that the setting would cause errors if SMW is not included. Yet I wonder if this is a problem in practice. In particular, it seems to me that an assignment to $variable[] should also cause problems in PHP if $variable is not defined before (which would be the case if SMW was not loaded). All tests passed after some fixing. We use this parser on all our wikis - some of them are corporate (intranet) ones, some of them are public. Although parser tests pass, my implementation is still different from current MW parser, and it still can sometimes lead to an unwanted behaviour. For example, in my implementation divs (and, for example, center also) inside raw html blocks may interfere with divs outside it, because html may be wrapped into a paragraph, implemented using a div. This is easily fixable by extracting all block elements (div, center) from html, so doBlockLevels can see them and wrap accordingly. Also, we had a funny bug with an unclosed span element in a pictogram template - some of the markup was mishandled and the image was duplicated on the page :) I didn't had time to test this deeply, just fixed it by adding a closing /span. We only updated within the 1.18 branch (1.18alpha r100281 to 1.18.0beta1 r102635 and now back). However, two extensions (Semantic Forms and Confirm Account) had to be used from trunk because the 1.18 versions don't work. These worked fine with r98122, but in fact these were accidentally updated to trunk 1.19 r102635 for a brief time and later reverted (only these two extensions, not mediawiki core). Update.php was, however, run while Confirm Account was in r102635. Documented: http://biowikifarm.net/meta/Software_Maintenance#2011-11-12 and before. Your comment implies that this means something bad - can you suggest a way to return this to working?
