Since MediaWiki is out, I have a question regarding the usage of the patch.
Consider this page http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone It has a template called
{{Küçük harf}} which lowers the title to ıPhone. {{Küçük harf}} has lcfirst see
http://tr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%C5%9Eablon:K%C3%BC%C3%A7%C3%BCk_harfaction=edit
Instead of lcfirst what should be used in order to achieve the title iPhone?

[Bug 32692] Add Extension:Arrays from trunk to 1.18 before release to smooth the upgrade path from ArrayExtension (present in 1.18, removed in 1.19)

2011-11-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32692

--- Comment #6 from Daniel Werner danwe...@web.de 2011-11-29 13:29:07 UTC ---
Actually, the version which has slipped in R1.18 is a very bad one, since
r81676 has introduced some kind of breaking behavior in #arraydefine which was
fixed again in r103703

r81673 (1.3.2) or r103716 (last version of 1.4 alpha) should be fine for 1.18.
Arrays 2.0 isn't ready, just did some test yesterday and there still have
things to be done in #arrayprint which potentially break stuff (without
compatibility mode at least).
Since r103716 is half way to 2.0, r81673 would make most sense probably. With
that one, nothing should change for anybody who has been using ArrayExtension
before.

(In reply to comment #5)
I think some line has been drawn when ArrayExtension was removed from 1.19.

The latest ArrayExtension (1.4 alpha) at that time was intended to become
pretty much the same 2.0 will be, just without the renaming which was an idea
which came up later. The array store per parser is changing a lot of code, so I
wanted to sort out all the other things first and implement compatibility mode
to be better able to compare the before/after effect within my test cases.

It seems the best solution then is to update the code in 1.18 to a stable
version rebranch ArrayExtension to (r103716) for 1.18, and restore the
ArrayExtension code in 1.19 (marking it as deprecated in favor of Array). It
seems that the mediawiki version which provides both versions in parallel to
allow transition would better be 1.19, correct?

Honestly, I don't understand the hassle about this, why not simply putting

No need for restoring ArrayExtension for 1.19 then. 2.0 will be final in a week

when 1.19 is going to be final.

I assumed that changing the name is due to breaking changes. That is what the
documentation says:

We strongly recommend updating to Arrays 2.0 since its corrects a severe bug
but at the same time breaks compatibility with earlier versions. Documentation
of previous versions can be found at Extension:Arrays/archive.

If it does break compatibility, wiki installation need a version in which both
extensions are installed side-by-side to the testing can be done. If, as from
what you write, the new extension is simply a newer version of the old one,
then I would prefer not to have a new name. It is frustrating if an extension
simply disappears into Nirvana. Daniel: Close the bug by either correcting the
mediawiki documentation page, or by providing a means for mediawiki users to
make the transition in some version.

The net result is that when a legitimate user logs in, they are taken to the

[Bug 32692] Add Extension:Arrays from trunk to 1.18 before release to smooth the upgrade path from ArrayExtension (present in 1.18, removed in 1.19)

2011-11-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #10 from Daniel Werner danwe...@web.de 2011-11-29 16:52:38 UTC ---
Its more complicated than that. The note which was added on the page is more
due to documentation issues. We have discussed the whole thing on the
extensions discussion page http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:Arrays
and People came to the conclusion that this would be the time for renaming it.

2.0 brings lots of breaking behavior, but I decided to add a compatibility
mode. Keeping compatibility is rather complex though, I have tested various
cases where I have ensured compatibility to pre 1.4alpha releases, there might
be just some minor cases where compatibility with active compatibility mode
might not be given.

This will allow people to change their templates or just stick with the old
behavior.
For wikis new to Arrays extension, using it from 2.0 on or later, they will
never be concerned with somewhat inconsistent, weird or just changed old
behaviors since compatibility mode is deactivated since 2.0 (its active by
default in 1.4alpha).

So I would do both, updating the documentation at some point as well as moving
2.0 into 1.18 (if thats even possible)

As someone working in Mobile, I can tell you, if at all possible, avoid J2ME.
It is impossible to support, the differences per platform are way too large.

[Bug 32710] New: multiline noinclude / includeonly fails

 Bug #: 32710
Summary: multiline noinclude / includeonly fails
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: MultiBoilerplate
AssignedTo: rob...@rhl.me.uk
ReportedBy: mediawiki-b...@cboltz.de
Classification: Unclassified

Credits for finding this go to an anonymous user on
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:MultiBoilerplate#noinclude_included

MultiBoilerplate fails to match noinclude and includeonly if the closing
tag is not in the same wikitext line.

I can't provide a clean patch because I'm already using a patched version of
MultiBoilerplate (see my other bugreports), therefore I'm including a
pseudo-patch ;-)

This has been discussed a few times and a proof of concept was produced:
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikisource-l/2011-February/000939.html
If I remember correctly, starting from a properly mapped DjVu it's not so
difficult to identify the words which need to be checked, extract the
corresponding (portion of) image and put the new text back in the DjVu.
It's way less obvious how to translate the activity on a Page: to the
corresponding DjVu page and vice versa.

Going through old bugs marked LATER ...

This feels like it's resolvable by just leaving the tab open. :)

Loading watchlists etc also isn't as slow as it was back in '04, so the desire
to not reload the page is likely lower than it used to be.

I'm taking the initiative to close this out; if there's a need for related
ideas please reopen or file a new, more specific bug. Thanks!

Looks like the TOC is still a ul inside a table (with the table used just
to get a fitted box).

I feel like modern things like margin: auto should make this unnecessary now
but I'm not sure. Would be nice to kill the table, but only if there's a sane
alternative that's reasonably compatible to IE 6.

[Bug 30783] mw.config.get and mw.config.set should allow additional calling patterns

2011-11-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30783

--- Comment #8 from darklama darkl...@gmail.com 2011-11-29 20:52:37 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #7)
By the way, mw.config has the set method because it's an instance of the
mw.Map class, but I think that using mw.config.set in user scripts or gadgets
 should be strongly discouraged.

A new Map instance for use by user scripts or gadgets would still
make sense, even if mw.config is not used.

mw.config.twinkle = new Map();
mw.config.twinkle.set({
  showRollbackLinks: [ 'diff', 'others' ],
  openTalkPageOnAutoRevert: true
});

var revertSpecificConfigs = mw.config.twinkle.get({
  showRollBacklinks: [],
  openTalkPageOnAutoRevert: false
});

This isn't an issue with the newer https://en.wikipedia.org/ etc.

secure.wikimedia.org isn't 100% dead yet, but unless there are specific banners
that are broken I'd recommend closing this out.

I'm going ahead and reopening this.

Something 'in the middle' such as a runtime JS check could switch (or prompt
you with the ability to switch) the UI language fairly straightforwardly with
today's interface.

A future more JS-heavy interface might be more able to dynamically switch
itself transparently.

This should no longer happen on IE 7 and IE 8 which have native XMLHTTPRequest,
we've updated to now jQuery 1.6.4 I think.

IE 6 will still need to use the ActiveX, but them's the breaks. Don't like it,
upgrade.

I'm going to agree and go ahead and mark this WONTFIX.

Custom anchors can be done with span id=foo/span (or a template wrapping
them) placed near the heading; this is fairly standard and already gets used in
places.

No, it is not, because we have no intention to support any other DBMS than
MySQL for Translate. The previous resolution remains, and reopening this issue
is a waste of time. Please set it back to LATER unless you are adding a patch
to add PostgreSQL support.
