[Bug 32795] New: Margins (MediaWiki CSS file commonPrint.css)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32795 Web browser: --- Bug #: 32795 Summary: Margins (MediaWiki CSS file commonPrint.css) Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: General/Unknown AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: dovijac...@yahoo.com Classification: Unclassified The MediaWiki CSS file commonPrint.css (skins/common/commonPrint.css) contains the following CSS rule (lines #161-164): p, .documentDescription { margin: 1em 0 !important; line-height: 1.2em; } The !important specifier should be removed. It sets paragraph margins to 1em, regardless of the actual styling and layout of the page (in regular mode). Many pages in the Hebrew wikisource make use of special styling/layout of the text, and this rule breaks the style in print mode, makes them effectively unprintable. Major wikis (i.e., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.js) try to avoid this problem by providing some overloaded rules -- mw.util.addCSS( '@media print { sup, sub, p, .documentDescription { line-height: normal; }}'); However, due to the !important specifier, subsequent rules cannot alter the original one. Since this font is unavailable, it's defaulting to something like Helvetica which is much wider. [Bug 17297] Add margins to printable css style
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17297 --- Comment #7 from Philippe Verdy verd...@wanadoo.fr 2011-12-04 22:36:29 UTC --- Great, with the proportional line-height, we can now properly avoid lines to overlap in paragraphs, when it contains an inline item using big.../big or CSS style font-size:larger or font-size higher than 100%: the baselineswill still align, but the line interval will be increased properly for the whole rendered line. This also affects positively superscripts and subscripts. And this now renders correctly when using the text-zoom function of the browser (not the page-zoom which changes the effective rendered measures, but not the computed measured perceived in CSS and in the DOM). This change also corrects artefacts seen when users have to define a larger default font size in their current user stylesheet (in other words, Wikimedia is more accessible to visual impaired users that need selective zoom on text, without necessarily changng the size of images that may remain in their normal 100% zoom level with crisp and exact pixels, without creating fuzzy images like with the full-page zoom). Even on very special sites like Wikibooks, it is better. Wikibooks is especially the type of site whose style requires selective zoom on texts, but not on the layout or in the renderered image. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 28613] Thumbnails of updated files fail to purge on squids
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28613 --- Comment #117 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-12-04 22:50:52 UTC --- https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/PopulusNigra2.jpg/250px-PopulusNigra2.jpg?action=purge Note, purging the actual thumbnail doesn't do much (well I suppose it changes the url, which would cause the squid cache to possibly re-fetch it from the image servers). But in essence https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/PopulusNigra2.jpg/250px-PopulusNigra2.jpg?action=purge isn't that different then going to https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/PopulusNigra2.jpg/250px-PopulusNigra2.jpg?action=puppy as far as i know For me (with doing the /etc/hosts trick so the request goes through the europe servers) https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/PopulusNigra2.jpg/250px-PopulusNigra2.jpg returns the newest version of the file (as expected). https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/PopulusNigra2.jpg/250px-PopulusNigra2.jpg?action=purge returns the old version of the file (which isn't that unexpected since non-canonical thumb urls don't get purged, so earlier it returned the outdated image, and since then it just kept the outdated image cached for the url with ?action=purge appended). So in conclusion, this looks like everything is working properly now (?) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 32721] VIPS out of memory on large (100 Mpx) non-progressive JPEG
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32721 --- Comment #4 from Tim Starling tstarl...@wikimedia.org 2011-12-05 04:21:16 UTC --- Hmmm, this is a pretty large error on my part. VIPS is not doing any low memory magic when reading JPEG or PNG source images. VIPS is writing out an uncompressed copy of the source image to /tmp and presumably exceeding the file size limit. If the source image is less than 100MB, it makes the copy in memory instead, despite my previous assertions to the contrary. My measure-memory script missed the allocation because it was done in a separate thread. We can set IM_DISC_THRESHOLD to prevent VIPS from writing temporary files. For JPEG images we can get VIPS to prescale the source image, like how we do it with ImageMagick. Instead of this: vips im_shrink chicago.jpg dst.jpg 20 20 we would do this: vips im_shrink chicago.jpg:8 dst.jpg 2.5 2.5 See http://www.vips.ecs.soton.ac.uk/supported/current/doc/html/libvips/VipsFormat.html#im-jpeg2vips for the details. But apparently there's not much value in using VIPS over ImageMagick for JPEGs since both are fast and ImageMagick probably looks nicer. For TIFFs, now that I've fixed my testing procedure, I'm getting the expected difference in memory usage between tiled and untiled images. I'll put a correction on bug 23258. For PNGs, i.e. the whole point of this project, we seem to be pretty much screwed. I haven't looked into the details of when it will or won't use memory, but it's not looking good. At least we can reuse most of the code you've written to integrate with pngds instead. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
