This is because you're missing the rcid parameter. This is required for
marking a page patrolled.

You really shouldn't be attempting to automatically mark pages patrolled

To patrol changes use Special:RecentChanges or Special:NewPages, visiting
action=markpatrolled directly does not work as patrolling is per-revision not
per-page. It needs a token, also.

The error could be improved though.

(In reply to comment #1)
This is because you're missing the rcid parameter. This is required for
 marking a page patrolled.

I don't think this is strictly true. Looking at the Mark this page as
patrolled link on Meta-Wiki (specifically here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikimedia_Highlights,_February_2012/firedirect=norcid=3377713),
it includes a (pre-filled) token parameter. For example, the link I currently
have looks like this:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikimedia_Highlights,_February_2012/fiaction=markpatrolledrcid=3377713token=8db654c84c7c9ec5221fb5a3966aaf63%2B%5C.
I believe the token URL parameter is the key missing element here. The token
parameter looks like a protection against nefarious GET requests.

Looking at [mediawiki/core.git] / includes / actions / MarkpatrolledAction.php
seems to confirm this:

---
$user = $this-getUser();
if ( !$user-matchEditToken( $request-getVal( 'token' ), $rcId ) ) {
throw new ErrorPageError( 'sessionfailure-title', 'sessionfailure'
);
}
---

Source:
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/gitweb?p=mediawiki/core.git;a=blob;f=includes/actions/MarkpatrolledAction.php;h=ae9223f45783ced6dc89c76e7cd5af85bb375535;hb=540dfed2a6e42cbd6f761014f9213f311022458a.

You really shouldn't be attempting to automatically mark pages patrolled
 anyway.

I don't think this is the bug here, though I do agree that this bug sounds
invalid. People trying to mark pages as patrolled ought to use MediaWiki's API:
https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php (search for action=patrol). The token
parameter will still be required via the API, however. You can retrieve it
using list=recentchanges, according to the docs.

(Hmm, the token parameter isn't marked as required, though. H.)

This is because you're missing the rcid parameter. This is required for

I don't think this is strictly true. Looking at [..] it includes a

Both the rcid and token are required. The rcid to identify which event you're
patrolling. This has always been required, without this the action is pointless
as there is no action (like visiting action=delete without a title parameter).
And the token is indeed a security measure to avoid CSRF attacks by loading a
action=markpatrolled url from within another website and have it work because
you're logged in.

[Bug 38190] New: MediaWiki API's patrol module's documentation doesn't indicate that token parameter is required

2012-07-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Bug #: 38190
   Summary: MediaWiki API's patrol module's documentation doesn't
indicate that token parameter is required
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: API
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: b...@mzmcbride.com
CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com, roan.katt...@gmail.com,
s...@reedyboy.net, soxre...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Looking at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php, the auto-generated
documentation for action=patrol reads:

---
* action=patrol *
  Patrol a page or revision

This module requires read rights
This module requires write rights
This module only accepts POST requests
Parameters:
token - Patrol token obtained from list=recentchanges
  rcid- Recentchanges ID to patrol
This parameter is required
---

The token parameter is required with action=patrol, so it should be marked as
such (with the text This parameter is required).

This same problem (token parameter not being marked as required) may apply to a
few other parts of the MediaWiki API's auto-generated documentation. For now,
I'm focused on action=patrol.

--- Comment #1 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2012-07-05 08:09:03 UTC ---
None of the API modules that use the built-in method for token handling are
have their token parameter documented as This parameter is required.

The built-in (and recommended) method is:
- getTokenSalt(): string
- needsToken(): true

e.g. ApiBlock, ApiDelete, ApiEdit, ApiPatrol.

[Bug 38189] Error while marking pages as 'patrolled'

To patrol changes use Special:RecentChanges or Special:NewPages, visiting
action=markpatrolled directly does not work as patrolling is per-revision not
per-page. It needs a token, also.

The error could be improved though.

I'm not sure the user behavior here (appending ?action=markpatrolled to the
end of the URL) justifies changing the error message. Is there a reasonable
expectation that this will work?

[Bug 38191] New: Highlighting lines breaks copypaste

 Bug #: 38191
   Summary: Highlighting lines breaks copypaste
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: SyntaxHighlight (GeSHi)
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: listenle...@gmail.com
CC: soxre...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

I'm not sure whether this actually is an upstream bug in GeSHi, so I just
report it here:

When you highlight a line, the following linebreak is missing in the HTML
source. When a user copies the code, the line break is missing in the copied
text and may cause syntax errors.

Example:

syntaxhighlight lang=text
1
2
3
/syntaxhighlight

syntaxhighlight lang=text highlight=2
1
2
3
/syntaxhighlight

Both display correctly, but while the relevant HTML for the first is

pre class=de11
2
3
/pre

the second has

pre class=de11
span class=xtra ln-xtra2/span3
/pre

If you copy the result and paste it somewhere, you get

1
2
3

1
23

No, its like going to http://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?action=delete and
expecting something to delete, even though that's impossible no deletion target
is provided.

Likewise markpatrolled applies to a recent change (identified by the rcid), and
all links interface do this correctly. Appending that manually means nothing.

I guess the user may have the patrolling system confused with something like
Extension:FlaggedRevs, which is per-page, as supposed to the patrolling system,
which is per-edit.

-- Krinkle

[1] Yes, I know FlaggedRevs flags revisions, not pages. But the flag evaluates
for the whole revision content, not the edit itself and as such represents the
page state and effects which revision is shown when the page is accessed etc.

If it's unreasonable to expect appending to the URL to work, I don't think the

actionable in this bug.

Do you see anything that's actionable?

Bumping this bug. This bug's summary is currently Review SignWriting
 MediaWiki
Plugin extension code and commit it to SVN. Are new extensions still being
added to SVN or are new extensions going into Git now?

Well, technically, one can still commit it to SVN, however this doesn't make it
closer to deployment:) I think this bug could be WONTFIXed until the code is
actually fixed, and since the extension just uses a non MediaWiki-specific sign
writing library - it should be done by the library's author, unless there's a
pressing need to fork.

Currently a jqplotbar diagram will not be shown unless you define an explicit
value for distributionlimit, which shouldn't be the case.

Some investigation reveals that the problem is in
SMWAggregatablePrinter::applyDistributionParams(), in the following code block:

if ( $this-params['distributionlimit'] !== false ) {
$data = array_slice( $data, 0, $this-params['distributionlimit'], true );
}

The default value for distributionlimit is 0, which will trigger the
if-condition and cause data to be sliced into nothing.

A quick fix will be to either change the comparison operator to != (i.e. allow
type juggeling) or compare to 0 instead of false.

 I think this wouldn't be a problem if we used CSS text-transform: capitalize;

I don't think we can do it, since it uppercases the first character of every
word, not just the very first one.

[Bug 35497] Implement a way to bring GitHub pull requests on https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-core into Gerrit

2012-07-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35497

--- Comment #13 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2012-07-05 10:32:24 UTC ---
So, some ideas:

* Don't use github.com/mediawiki/core as name
 - means we duplicate user groups/rights with the org Wikimania at github
 - means we're going to promote ourselves as core. e.g.
github.com/Krinkle/core.
 - any advantages?
hashar mentioned we want to be able to allow volunteers to help out with the
handling of pull-request and that to grant them rights we'd want to have it
outside the @wikimedia organization. However this is not needed because:
   * github allows collaboration without any rights at all. You can leave
inline comments, and stuff on any pull request anywhere
   * as in comment 12, they are pull-able in many different formats including
plain git pull so anyone can pull it locally, and if they have a labs ldap
account they can also push straight to gerrit for review.
   * github supports auto-closing of pull-requests when the commit hash is
pushed into the repo, so no maintenance there either. And if the commit has to
be amended, including fixes GH-123 or closes GH-123 will also close the
relevant PR as soon as it is merged. And if all else fails, a repo collab in
@wikimedia (of which there are many[1]) can just push Close manually on
github
So volunteers have complete access without needing to be manually added to
anything, this is what made GitHub works. And if its only about closing some
exceptional ones, then I'm sure we'll manage that.

* Use github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-core
 - ideally we'd have some kind of auto-push from gerrit or jenkins, otherwise
just set up a 30 minute cron somewhere to `pull gerrit -f` and `push github
-f`.
 - admin settings: pull-request: true, issues: false, wiki: false

How is this not a duplicate of bug 35429? I'll be doing all the repos at once
when I setup replication, not one-by-one.

I didn't say it wasn't a dupe. But since it appears there is no clarity yet on
how the gerrit or jenkins replication is going, I figured we may be able to set
up at least something on the short term for mediawiki-core so that its out
there and we can start experimenting with how to solve other issues such as
what and if we need a tool for pulling in pull-requests (or that git pull
github.com...; git push gerrit HEAD:refs/for/master/gh-123/some-feature; is
sufficient).

I mean.. I could just ask for the repo and set a cron up to mirror and get it
going. Seems low hanging fruit. But if bug 35429 can be done within say 2
weeks, then by all means dupe it.

[Bug 38199] New: Uppercasing first letter in aliases and labels

2012-07-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38199

   Web browser: ---
 Bug #: 38199
Summary: Uppercasing first letter in aliases and labels
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
AssignedTo: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jeb...@gmail.com

Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

The normalization of lables and aliases does not include uppercasing of first
letter. This is configurable for titles on normal wikipages and should (?) be
the same for labels and aliases, but I'm more uncertain if it should be done
for descriptions. That is if the labels and aliases can be used in url's they
should be treated the same as ordinary titles.

This was caused by missing Russian locales on the planet server (singer) which
made planet stop saying the configured localed in planet config is unsupported.

the good thing was that we had this issue before with other languages and
puppetized it last time, so just had to add it in the right file, here:

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/14293/1/files/locales/local_int

ran localegen manually after adding it, manually updated ru.planet, and it is
now updated to July. checked existing cronjob, yes it was in there all the
time. so should now just update automatically.

if there is an issue with one or more feeds that will usually not stop puppet
runs but just skip them. nevertheless there are often errors with feeds, and
those should be reported here please:

[Bug 36773] Article Feedback - My Contributions

2012-07-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36773

--- Comment #11 from Matthias Mullie mmul...@wikimedia.org 2012-07-05
12:11:57 UTC ---
Pushed to Gerrit (https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/14285/) prototype

I made a minor change to the proposed copy though; instead of this:

hour, date, go to permalink . . (character count) .. Feedback on article
name by user name/ID (talk) - (comment, if any) . . Status:
[Helpful|Flagged|Featured|Resolved|Hidden|Oversight Requested|Oversighted]

I made it like this, which more closely resembles the current entries for when
someone edits pages:

hour, date, go to permalink . . (character count) . . Feedback on article
name . . user name/ID (talk) (comment, if any) . . Status:
[Helpful|Flagged|Featured|Resolved|Hidden|Oversight Requested|Oversighted]

Is that ok, or should I change it to the proposed text?

Also: The user name/ID would link to that user's profile, if it exists (or
to their contribs page if no profile exists)
- I didn't add in the check to the contribs part; I have - for now - just used
the default method of building a url for a user, which Make user link (or user
contributions for unregistered users)
So if a user has not completed his page yet, it will still link to it,
regardless.
The reason I didn't build this yet, is that I think there's a reason it's
currently done this way (probably to encourage people to actually complete
their page), and if there is no (longer a) valid reason, we should change it
everywhere, including the article entries in MyContribs.
Just my 2c - if you want to, I'll update it none-the-less, but I liked to hear
your thoughts about it first :)

And about the gray: didn't touch that one either. The comments on articles are
black as well. They're just gray when they're no manual but automated comments:
When someone edits a certain section of a page (e.g. section Breeding on
Golden-crowned Sparrow:
http://prototype.wikimedia.org/rc-en/index.php?title=Golden-crowned_Sparrowaction=editsection=3),
the comment /* Breeding */ is automatically entered as summary. If that isn't
changed, that will be gray text Breeding on MyContribs; however if someone
manually enters a summary, it'll be black.
So I left this untouched, because the current method seems to be the more
consistent one.

A few messages from MediaWiki namespace on Romanian Wikiquote
(ro.wikiquote.org) have a problem with the initial text. They doesn't contain
the translated message form TranslateWiki.net.

An example is https://ro.wikiquote.org/wiki/MediaWiki:1movedto2 . If I delete
the message, the text is: moved [[$1]] to [[$2]] instead of a redenumit
[[$1]] în [[$2]] (the translated message at TranslateWiki).

For now site and article are used as placeholders in the input fields when
adding a sitelink. This fits for the sitegroup Wikipedia. But we have to
think of correct handling for other groups too.
This is a follow-up for the closed bug #37543.

varies.
