It has to do with how caching systems work. Every url (for every potential size) is cached independently. In general, you can also only purge the URLs you know to exist. There is no 'wildcard' system in caching systems (it's not a database, it's a 'flat' lookup table), because that is terribly inefficient in such systems (it's also what makes them fast for caching). There is an idea now to make all urls of one image use the same 'identifier' and then purge that identifier instead of the 'url'. This is because there is only one valid Content-Type for these files, and that is "image/svg+xml". This declares that the 'downloaded file' is an XML file, which is also a requirement by by http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG/conform.html. Files without xmlns are valid XML files. I think they are even well formed xml. Per the specification in G2 of the SVG conformance specification, they are however not valid SVG files because it specifies as a requirement for 'valid': "Set the attributes xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"; and xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"; on D's document element", which these files do not have. I note however, that for our parser, probably only xmlns is required, not xmlns:xlink... Our parser also doesn't trip over files with missing DTD information and that is a requirement for valid SVG files. This is all details. Profiling also confirms my observations: over 20k per call and 0.5 ms per call. Not much per se, but it really adds up when making hundreds or even thousands of links like I do. He likes ices cream. 5) User A changes section 1 to: He was born in 1980. He likes cookies. 6) User A hits save. It should auto merge that the entire page into: intro ==Section 1== He was born in 1990. He likes cookies. ==Section 2== blah blah blah. With the bug, it instead automerged the section and saved just the section of the page, erasing the rest of the page, so users would see: ==Section 1== He was born in 1990. He likes cookies. The issue appears to be TextContent object being passed to the wfMerge3 function in TextContentHandler. It also appears that edit conflicts were happening much more often, such as the mergeChangesIntoContent function in EditPage returning false more often when it should auto merge successfully. I guess that when one does some maintenance to an extension, one is regarded as the cause of all future bugs, or instantly promoted to maintainer :). Anyway, I guess that Collection has never supported redirects, so that this behavior is unspecified. I'll leave this to the PediaPress people to confirm.
