[Bug 54289] CsvResultPrinter needs UTF-8 byte order mark in order for Excel to properly recognize UTF-8 encoding

2013-09-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #3 from Chris Davis c_b_...@yahoo.com ---
After verifying that it works for Excel 14.0 (Office 2010) under Windows, I've
also tried it on Ubuntu 13.04 with Gnumeric Spreadsheet 1.12.1 and LibreOffice
Calc 4.0.2.2 without any problems.

So while things work for these programs, the more I read on the UTF-8 BOM, the
more it seems like a hack to make the output work with Microsoft programs
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark#UTF-8 Despite this,
Microsoft...). Apparently this can cause problems with programs that don't
look for a BOM and try to parse it as data. I'm not sure which programs would
fall into this category, but I can test them if anyone has ideas.

Missing scan and edit toolbar

I am posting three separate bugs and mentioning this in this first report
because they are somewhat related.

The user defined edit toolbar, defined in my very simple
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/User:Ineuw/common.js stopped functioning in this
latest version of the mw software. In versions previous, it worked reliably and
always, permitting me greatly increased productivity. The toolbar does show up
intermittently and occasionally.

Regardless of the toolbutton definition syntax used, the same intermittent
functioning is the result. The syntax is either the current definition one, or
an older one:

mw.toolbar.addButton(
'',
' Æ ',
'Æ',
'',
'',
''
);

I also used the definitions without image buttons, thinking that this may be
the cause, but it doesn't make a difference.

The problem is also not browser related. I tried other browsers and OS's as
well:

Firefox in Windows, Xubuntu, and Apple OSX.
Safari in Windows and Apple OSX.
Google Chrome in Windows and Linux (Xubuntu).
but the intermittent behaviour is the same. . . . .

Finally, this is also true on the Commons and Wikipedia, where it's less
critical because I am not so active on those wikis.

Please see attached image.

Incorrect reversed display of non Latin characters

Please see the attached image and Bugs #54308 #54309.

By this time I resigned to utilize the advanced toolbar and after making an
attempt, I feel very cynical because this effort is totally useless. There is a
lot to be said for programmers and developers learning to proofread a chapter
or so of text, to see how their ideas are working in the real world.

In the first place, It takes several steps to hide the header to gain
additional viewing space or access various features.

Finally, The non-Latin characters, like Hebrew and Arabic were inserted from
left to right. For those who don't understand, that's the equivalent of
displaying Latin characters from right to left, as in: . . . . L K J I H G F E
D C B A

In view of my previous posts, please consider correcting this ASAP.

[Bug 7208] Change font for texvc-generated images

2013-09-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7208

--- Comment #9 from Markus Krötzsch mar...@semantic-mediawiki.org ---
The font is specified in the preamble of the LaTeX document that is compiled to
create the PNG images that MediaWiki uses to display math. This preamble used
to be a fixed part of the source code, which was not configurable. Maybe this
changed (the bug is 6 years old now ...).

(Side remark: today there seem to be better solutions for Web math use,
especially MathJax, http://www.mathjax.org/; using this might solve font issues
in a more general way.)

 Thanks Jan!

 Can any other user reproduce the problem?
 Does the problem also happen to this user on other wikisites, like
 en.wikipedia.org ?

 Firefox version info would be very welcome.
 If this is reproducible for the user, any related output (like errors) in
 Firefox' Tools Web Developer Error console is also welcome, plus trying
 if it still happens after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BYPASS

Thanks, Andre. My initial suggestion to the user - being a user script problem
- has been confirmed; solved =).

I tried both versions for extended periods of time. Both with or without image
buttons, currently I am using the latest iteration with captioned parameters,
having removed the older version a few hours ago since it made no difference.
Please see the history of my common.js.

If you notice, the custom edit toolbar should be AFTER the two standard
toolbars. Instead it is inserted between the two. A phenomena which began some
months ago.

There are numerous and extensive Wikisource posts over the past years regarding
the toolbar problem.

Hi ineuw,

your screenshot looks like the old toolbar to me, instead of the WikiEditor
toolbar. Is that intended or part of the problem?

The WikiEditor toolbar should look like your screenshot in
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=13323

I went to
https://en.wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Page:Popular_Science_Monthly_Volume_63.djvu/155action=edit
to reproduce the problem (Firefox 23.0.1) and switched to horizontal layout.

I also copied your common.js file to my user account (the file basically just
has a number of mw.toolbar.addButtons calls).

The scanned image still loads for me, and I get the correct WikiEditor toolbar,
but in Firefox' Error Console I get:

Timestamp: 09/19/2013 11:52:12 AM
Error: TypeError: mw.toolbar is undefined
Source File:

I have bug 47872 in mind.

Confirming what you see. Hebrew letters Alef and Bet are on the left.

I am pretty sure that this is intended and that it depends on your personal
language settings in
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-personal-i18n
because depending on your primary language you are used to either expect the
first letter on the left (LTR) or on the right (RTL).

It's the same the other way round:
Looking at the Cyrillic character section with the interface language set to
Hebrew (by simply adding uselang=he to the URL), I also get the Russian
alphabet from right to left, while Russian is a left to right language.

This is rather important for us because all the maps and tools are broken so
our participants are even more second class than usual (the few coordinates we
have are not even used).
I'm told by Maarten that he did his share of DB work and we should ask
Platonides; Platonides, can you tell us what we can do to make your work
easier? I realise our lists are not easy to deal with... They are for us too
and we are quite drowning in work to keep them up to date but we'll do our

Where on the image that you attached in this report can a custom edit toolbar
be seen? I get exactly the same image (without your custom.css/.js file

And comment 0 refered to character set selection, not to some custom edit
toolbar? How is this related?

I'd love to know where exactly the character set selection was before it so

As far as I know, the MediaWiki software is run on a server which is accessed
by a browser (or by other tools accessing its API, like RSS readers). Still you
end up with some software and a device that you need to access the Mediawiki
software.

Please elaborate and provide steps (step by step) to reproduce the situation in
which you would expect such a shortcut, so others could follow your steps.

1) Make it consistent with what MediaWiki does for normal wikitext (IIRC it
does not require to set the ids when the revid is given, so I would do the same
here, but please check this statement).

2) that solution looks sensible, but make it an object so you can access them
directly without having to loop over the revisions, i.e.

 revisions: {
14 : { entity content for rev 14 },
15 : { entity content for rev15 }
 }

instead of

  revisions: [
 { entity content for rev 14 }, { entity content for rev15 }

[Bug 54314] New: VisualEditor: A pawn appears when undoing select transclusion and replace with text

2013-09-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54314

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 54314
   Summary: VisualEditor: A pawn appears when undoing select
transclusion and replace with text
   Product: VisualEditor
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General
  Assignee: jforres...@wikimedia.org
  Reporter: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: jforres...@wikimedia.org, krinklem...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Edit a page
2. Insert a transclusion, apply changes
# The transclusion is now selected (VE does this automatically for newly
inserted nodes)
3. Type a characters
# Selected content is removed, text is inserted
4. Undo

The expected result is the text being replaced with the transclusion. Instead a
pawn is inserted.

Upon further inspection I noticed that the transclusion isn't lost, however. In
fact it is right there when you Undo again (after getting the pawn).

So it looks like the pawn was inserted as a transaction in the middle of
removing the transclusion (its own transaction but not supposed to be?) and
inserting the text.

We auto-select the template after insertion and it is relatively easy to
accidentally press a key afterwards. And Undo then shows the user something
scary (their template appears lost). A fairly high priority bug regarding user
experience.

Not sure if this is a regression or not.

[Bug 54308] Custom edit toolbar failure

2013-09-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54308

--- Comment #3 from ineuw in...@aei.ca ---
Hi. I am sorry to confuse you. The new edit toolbar was activated so that I
could take a proper snapshot and I forgot to turn it off. Otherwise, it's not
usable for me at the moment.

Wikisource users, who use edit toolbar buttons, use the legacy old style
because it's more versatile. For my main project work of Popular Science
Monthly, I only need the 12-14 extended ANSI to accommodate French and German
and occasionally Greek.

I am also working on Hebrew/Arabic texts, and not being able to access the
dropdown box of character selections, this forced me to try using the
advanced WikiEditor toolbar in which my language setting places things in
reverse order.

I am attaching what should be the correct display of the legacy toolbar when it
works.

 @torty: I would be glad to use the place you mention if someone grants me
 read/write access to it.
 Anywhere is fine as long as it can run our PHP script over HTTPS.

 @Cyberpower678: Interesting! Any idea how they achieved this?

 @Ryan: Any news about the dynamic proxy?

Well I achieved it by simply tossing it into the public_html folder and going
to that address with https. Nothing special to it.

Snaks in a Snakgroup (i.e. Snaks with the same property) are currently not
being recognized as belonging together. This makes the ordering behavior not
intuitive. A Snakgroup should somehow convey that it belongs together.

Possibilities: put them in a box, background color, do not repeat the property
on the second and further snaks.

[Bug 51651] Auto-generated gadget documentation with JsDuck

Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com changed:

   What|Removed |Added

Product|MediaWiki extensions|Wikimedia

--- Comment #1 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com ---
I don't see a straight forward path that will enable this within reasonable
time for production. jsduck as it is wouldn't integrate very well nor is it
very well inspected against potentially insecure input.

However, this might be an opportunity for a Tool Labs tool. A tool could
periodically (or, if limited for overload, directly after a change) scan wikis
for gadget definitions, then fetch the text for the relevant js pages of the
gadget, concatenate them, run them through jsduck and publish the result
somewhere (e.g. tools.wmflabs.org/gadgetdoc/commonswiki/Stockphoto).

And though that on itself would be a great step (a gadget or template could
show a link to there), it might even be possible to have the documentation be
accessible from within the wiki (e.g. not just a link in a template pointing
here, but actually without leaving the wiki).

First thing that comes to mind is the JSON manifests that jsduck generates in
addition to the html, those can be interpreted cross-domain and rendered
locally. Alternatively through a dialog and iframe the html can also be shown
directly, of course.

--- Comment #2 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com ---
If anything, it would be a good way to get started and 1) have gadget
developers start documenting things in a consistent format and 2) see what
problems come up.

I'm not saying we'll never integrate documentation natively for Gadgets.

But I think it's unlikely for technical reasons (not manpower or priority). One
could also argue that this way Gadgets stays more focussed on its core purpose
and leave this for another extension. So if there is an acceptable proposal for
how to implement this natively, it should probably be in a separate extension.

[Bug 53957] Font issue in tigrinya and arabic language font.

--- Comment #5 from Incarus incar...@googlemail.com ---
(In reply to comment #4)
 Is this the same problem that can be seen in the table at
 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleph#Arabic_variants (reported in
 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:
 Village_pump_%28technical%29oldid=573623991#Arabic_fonts
 ) or should that be a separate report? The arabic characters are bigger than
 the table cells, in Firefox 23 and Google Chrome 29.

Not really, but it might be all related to the font file.

I can confirm. When trying to open the Page settings dialog, an exception is
thrown for style is null:

ve.Element.js, line:
 top = parseFloat( loc ? style.borderTopWidth : $el.css(
'borderTopWidth' ) ) || 0,

Context:
ve.Element.getBorders = function ( el ) {
var doc = el.ownerDocument,
win = doc.parentWindow || doc.defaultView,
style = win  win.getComputedStyle ?
win.getComputedStyle( el, null ) : el.currentStyle,
loc = win  win.getComputedStyle ? true : false,
$el = $( el ),
top = parseFloat( loc ? style.borderTopWidth : $el.css(
'borderTopWidth' ) ) || 0,

[Bug 54323] New: Make a tool to find images and categories that fell out of the monument category tree

Bug ID: 54323
   Summary: Make a tool to find images and categories that fell
out of the monument category tree
   Product: Wiki Loves Monuments
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: maar...@mdammers.nl
Blocks: 53807
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

For every source we have a main category, a tracker template and a tracker
category. I'll take the Netherlands as an example:
* Main Category: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rijksmonumenten
* Tracker template: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Rijksmonument
* Tracker category:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rijksmonumenten_with_known_IDs

Every image and category that is tagged with the tracker template should also
be somewhere in the tree under the main category (excluding the tracker
category). This can go down several steps:
* https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rijksmonumenten
* https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rijksmonumenten_in_North_Holland
* https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Rijksmonumenten_in_Haarlem
* https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Grote_Kerk,_Haarlem
* some image

The tool should report for which categories and for which images this is not
the case so it can be fixed.

I'd say it's very similar.
