[Bug 54289] CsvResultPrinter needs UTF-8 byte order mark in order for Excel to properly recognize UTF-8 encoding
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54289 --- Comment #3 from Chris Davis c_b_...@yahoo.com --- After verifying that it works for Excel 14.0 (Office 2010) under Windows, I've also tried it on Ubuntu 13.04 with Gnumeric Spreadsheet 1.12.1 and LibreOffice Calc 4.0.2.2 without any problems. So while things work for these programs, the more I read on the UTF-8 BOM, the more it seems like a hack to make the output work with Microsoft programs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark#UTF-8 Despite this, Microsoft...). Apparently this can cause problems with programs that don't look for a BOM and try to parse it as data. [Bug 54308] New: Custom edit toolbar failure

The user defined edit toolbar, defined in my very simple https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/User:Ineuw/common.js stopped functioning in this latest version of the mw software. In versions previous, it worked reliably and always, permitting me greatly increased productivity. The toolbar does show up intermittently and occasionally. Regardless of the toolbutton definition syntax used, the same intermittent functioning is the result. The syntax is either the current definition one, or an older one: mw.toolbar.addButton( '', ' Æ ', 'Æ', '', '', '' ); I also used the definitions without image buttons, thinking that this may be the cause, but it doesn't make a difference. The problem is also not browser related. I tried other browsers and OS's as well: Firefox in Windows, Xubuntu, and Apple OSX. Safari in Windows and Apple OSX. Google Chrome in Windows and Linux (Xubuntu). but the intermittent behaviour is the same. . . . . Finally, this is also true on the Commons and Wikipedia, where it's less critical because I am not so active on those wikis. By this time I resigned to utilize the advanced toolbar and after making an attempt, I feel very cynical because this effort is totally useless. There is a lot to be said for programmers and developers learning to proofread a chapter or so of text, to see how their ideas are working in the real world. In the first place, It takes several steps to hide the header to gain additional viewing space or access various features. Finally, The non-Latin characters, like Hebrew and Arabic were inserted from left to right. Edit a page 2. Insert a transclusion, apply changes # The transclusion is now selected (VE does this automatically for newly inserted nodes) 3. Type a characters # Selected content is removed, text is inserted 4. Undo The expected result is the text being replaced with the transclusion. Instead a pawn is inserted. Upon further inspection I noticed that the transclusion isn't lost, however. In fact it is right there when you Undo again (after getting the pawn). So it looks like the pawn was inserted as a transaction in the middle of removing the transclusion (its own transaction but not supposed to be?) and inserting the text. We auto-select the template after insertion and it is relatively easy to accidentally press a key afterwards. And Undo then shows the user something scary (their template appears lost). [Bug 51651] Auto-generated gadget documentation with JsDuck
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51651 Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Component|Gadgets |General/Unknown Product|MediaWiki extensions|Wikimedia --- Comment #1 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com --- I don't see a straight forward path that will enable this within reasonable time for production. jsduck as it is wouldn't integrate very well nor is it very well inspected against potentially insecure input. However, this might be an opportunity for a Tool Labs tool. A tool could periodically (or, if limited for overload, directly after a change) scan wikis for gadget definitions, then fetch the text for the relevant js pages of the gadget, concatenate them, run them through jsduck and publish the result somewhere (e.g. tools.wmflabs.org/gadgetdoc/commonswiki/Stockphoto). And though that on itself would be a great step (a gadget or template could show a link to there), it might even be possible to have the documentation be accessible from within the wiki (e.g. not just a link in a template pointing here, but actually without leaving the wiki). First thing that comes to mind is the JSON manifests that jsduck generates in addition to the html, those can be interpreted cross-domain and rendered locally. Alternatively through a dialog and iframe the html can also be shown directly, of course. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 51651] Auto-generated gadget documentation with JsDuck
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51651 --- Comment #2 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com --- If anything, it would be a good way to get started and 1) have gadget developers start documenting things in a consistent format and 2) see what problems come up. I'm not saying we'll never integrate documentation natively for Gadgets. But I think it's unlikely for technical reasons (not manpower or priority). One could also argue that this way Gadgets stays more focussed on its core purpose and leave this for another extension. So if there is an acceptable proposal for how to implement this natively, it should probably be in a separate extension. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
