A problem we have is that we don't know whether a link to [bus#Engelska] actually goes to the English section or not (maybe it's defined only in Swedish!). We have very well-defined ways of categorizing entries, so a section Engelska will necessarily be categorized in [Category:Engelska/Alla uppslag] (or an inflection category). Using this extension we could solve that by doing something like span class=no-entry[[bus#Engelska|bus]]/span and color it red (or mark it some other way). Users can change input and display settings without leaving the current page. It is true that some users are used to look for these things on settings. The purpose of the more language options link on the settings is to (a) provide those users with access to the language settings, but also to (b) introduce the ULS so that those users can access it next time they need language tools. mw.config.get('wg*') is currently basically a wrapper for window.wg*. To make
such deprecation notices possible we'd have to duplicate the values, which
could cause them to get out-of-sync if something modified them after page
load.
Is this an actual issue? Once they are set, they shouldn't be changed anyway.
So using a new object for mw.config.values instead of window and copying the
variables over when they are set the first time using mw.log.deprecate
shouldn't break more than replacing some of the wikibits.js functions with
$.noop will break.

Its said, if it is a default it not cause problems. Thus there is a value thumb in wikicode. So if VE offers to change image resolution freely, it may cause problems. There is a whole system designed for providing an i18n message along with callbacks to fill the parameters. The callback seems to assume it's being called within a block, with access to the PostRevision in question. The change did not consider that RecentChanges also needs to format history lines, and so we are stuck trying to reimplement the functionality in HistoryRecord, or to instantiate our own HistoryRenderer (the best option, since HistoryRecords seem to expect particular parameters which are set in HistoryRenderer – something that, IMO, is a mistake). Many of the requests involve a specific location, and could be surfaced based on that: when a user finishes an upload process, UploadWizard could show a call to action with image requests in the close proximity of either the uploader himself, or the uploaded image. This would require transforming the image requests into some sort of machine-readable format; this would be a lot of work, but in some specific cases it is already done, for example Wiki Loves Monuments contests have their own database and API and could easily produce lists of locations with few or no pictures. However, some of the messages are rather complex, and need info that is only available in separate objects. If we were to let HistoryRecord deal with those by itself, it would have to have all these objects injected already. I've for now decided to let HistoryRenderer inject these when needed, via the getMessage() call.
