The aim of this project is to facilitate the simultaneous editing of the data of multiple pages displayed in a table, ideally giving a spreadsheet-like experience. As an additional goal there should be an autoedit-like functionality for multiple pages. Using the #autoedit parser function it is currently possible to create links that, when clicked on, create or edit one page automatically in the background, with a preloaded set of values. With the new function it would be possible to modify several pages at once. On enwiki the Babel categories are in the format of Category:User xx, where
xx is always in lower case. However, if a user enters codes with a different
capitalisation in their #babel invocation, the page is categorised with that
different capitalisation.
For example, on enwiki, the code {{#babel: En}} will add the page to the
category Category:User En, when it should be Category:User en.
This also has the consequence that [[User:Babel AutoCreate]] creates duplicate
categories for each different code capitalisation that someone has used. I see
it has created both [[:Category:User Zh]] and [[:Category:User zh]], for
instance. (I have blocked the Babel AutoCreate account on enwiki until we can
find a way to fix this.)
I assume that lower case is the preferred code format for other wikis, and that
seemed to be the case when I spot-checked a few of them. However, if any wikis
use a different system, code capitalisation might need to be made configurable,
rather than lower case being hard-coded.

On enwiki, [[User:Babel AutoCreate]] has been creating several duplicate
categories. The categories differ only in capitalisation, for example:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:User_En
which is a duplicate of
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:User_en
This seems to depend on what capitalisation users use in their #babel
invocations. (More on this specific point at bug 61993.)
I have blocked the Babel AutoCreate account on enwiki because of this issue,
but if there is a way round it I would be happy to unblock.
As well as the fix I suggested in bug 61993, I think Babel should check for
possible duplicate categories at different capitalisations, and avoid
automatically creating categories for which it finds a match.
Let's say a user uses a Babel invocation of {{#babel: Xyz}}. Before creating
the category User Xyz, Babel should check for the existing categories User
xyz and User XYZ. Checking things like xYz probably wouldn't be necessary.
However, it would be worth checking regional variations like xyz-ab versus
xyz-AB. This has been an issue with enwiki's [[Category:User en-gb]] and
[[Category:User en-GB]].
If duplication checking is implemented, I would suggest getting Babel
AutoCreate to log possible duplicates to its user page or a user subpage so
that they can be checked by a human and created manually if necessary.
This bug might be fixed by fixing bug 61993, but the code would be more robust
if there was an explicit check for duplicate categories as well. An explicit
check would avoid the same problem happening in the future if category code
capitalisation was made configurable, for example.

After some more digging I think I found out when this happens: Always and only
when the gallery is used on the same page as an Semantic Internal Object of the
SIO extension from the Semantic MediaWiki family. This code should trigger the
error:

Just replace the local sysadmin console with calls to jstart wm-bot3 and jstop wm-bot3 with the added benefit that you don't need to manage a password, but can rely on Tools' users group. For convenience, you can add scripts that start or stop all bot instances. I don't see a reason why you would need a bouncer because when the bot instance does not have network access, the bouncer will not have either; but if that is a must, you can start one in the start-up script (wm-bot3 in the above example). This will then be on the localhost. The reason why bot is using bouncers isn't better stability from network point of view, but because its core is frequently patched and restarted. Because I don't want wm-bot to reconnect to freenode and rejoin these 180 channels everytime (putting heavy load on freenode as well) I am using bouncers. If people are using these alternate cases, then it is reasonable to assume that others will as well and the category should be created as a redirect to the proper case/category.
