[Bug 66161] New: add option to set httplib2.debuglevel

2014-06-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66161

Bug ID: 66161
Summary: add option to set httplib2.debuglevel
   Product: Pywikibot
   Version: core (2.0)
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: network
  Assignee: pywikipedia-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: jay...@gmail.com
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

httplib2 has debugging capabilities (httplib2.debuglevel), which would be
useful to control from the pywikibot config, and ideally capture its debug
output into the pywikibot logging layer

Which is fairly common. Even IE has started deliberately making ambiguous user
agents because the devs have realised that people write special rules around IE
UAs.

Is there anything interesting in the x_analytics field? I recall a problem with
a similar range of browsers from Zero - attempts to DDoS the ISP-level packet
inspection in Bangladesh.

Hmm, why there the button is visible i don't know, but in actual git version,
the language button appears only, if languages are available:

For example look at german Wikipedia:

As a translation admin, I want the initial alignment offered by
Special:PageMigration to be balanced enough for me to orient myself in the task
of fixing it manually.

First opportunity: align == in the order they appear. Irrespective of (and
without changing) splitting, we can align the first source unit having a
^==[^=] to the first target unit having a ^==[^=], adding blanks before if
needed.

Hello the world,

The community has just voted in favor of the $wgCategoryCollation variable
modification like it was done in the French Wikipedia during the last October:

https://fr.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Salle_caf%C3%A9/2014/avril#.24wgCategoryCollation_peut_remplacer_les_cl.C3.A9s_de_tri

In order to avoid to use {{DEFAULTSORT}} in French.

[Bug 66166] New: mw.html Scribunto library methods such as css, cssText and attr must remove such attribute or property when passed a nil value

2014-06-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 66166
Summary: mw.html Scribunto library methods such as css, cssText

passed a nil value
   Product: MediaWiki extensions

mw.html Scribunto library methods such as css, cssText and attr must remove
such attribute or property when passed a nil value.

The habit / good pracitce in fluent interface is, that if null is passed, it
means that such thing is to be removed.

It allows to not clutter the source code with stuff like

html = mw.html.create( tag )
if( classname )
  html:attr( class, classname )
end

and uses the whole potential of the *fluent* interface thus

html = mw.html.create( tag )
  :attr( class, classname )

which is set if classname is filled or unset(=removed) when it's nil.

Same with css

html = mw.html.create( tag )
  :css( background, background )

will set the background property if set, or remove from style declaration if
nil.

It also allows effective removal of the previously set stuff:

-- default setting
html = mw.html.create( tag )
  :css( background, background )
  :attr( class, classname )
-- (some code goes here which sets some conditions)
-- based on the condition we decided to remove the preciously set background
if ( condition )
  html:css( background, nil )
end

[Bug 66066] Add Help namespace, and perhaps other documentation, to default search

--- Comment #4 from Philippe Verdy verd...@wanadoo.fr ---
We don't nee this tab, but wikis certainy want a better way to produce specific
search boxes that will look in some namespace or category.

These custom boxes will also be tuned to the place where they will be used
(they can't be necessarily the same in the main namespace, in the Template
namespace and in the Project namespace, or in user talk pages: eahc namespace
want their own local tuning). For that, wikis will develop some templates that
cn be inserted in their pages (so avoid duplicating other search boxes
elsewhere in the page as they cause confusion).

But the basic default search box of the wiki should only search in the main
namespace (or possibly just in the current namespace where the default
searchbox is viewed).

Ayway users can customize their prefered search spaces by adding a few ones if
they want to add them to the default search box. They can also add gadgets to
their user page to modify or complement this default search box.

Also I don't like that the default search uses the I feel lucky strategy used
by default and that brings up directly to a found page (just because its name
matches exactly the search string), without using a first landing page of
results where extra seach options can be adjusted before following a link.
Searching does not mean that we want to visit that page.

I agree with Jon (in his comment on gerrit:
Ideally this change should be done in core and in the HTML. I'd rather we
didn't introduce such a JavaScript hack. The gain is too small and we are
introducing code that could potentially damage styling by changing the HTML
structure.)

So i will create a POC in next time in core.

Note: This happens in mediawiki.org (1.24wmf7 (941d0e1)), but not in
en.wikipedia (1.24wmf6 (4331f6b)).

To reproduce:
1. Edit an article. Make a change.

3. Try writing an edit summary.

Observed: The text is added to the article.

[Bug 28276] Inconsistently named IRC recent changes channels

--- Comment #20 from Danny B. dann...@email.cz ---
(In reply to Krinkle from comment #19)

Also, it's important to look into whether the libraries out there can handle
with redirects (both on existing connections and for new connections).

The two libraries most used in this context are:
 - SmartIrc4net (used by [[m:CVN]]'s CVNBot)
   https://github.com/meebey/SmartIrc4net
 - python-irclib/ircbot/SingleServerIRCBot (used by pywikibot)
   https://bitbucket.org/jaraco/irc
   https://github.com/jaraco/irc

Neither appears to have handling for mode 'f' on channels, or have any
mention of the word redirect or forward anywhere in their codebase.

/mode +if redirects whoever automatically on server side. (aka it does not work
like 301/302 redirs in HTTP which require client to act)

The timestamp at the end of generated file names for mobile uploads should be

Don't know what, if anything at all, our privacy policy says about it, but in

Now that we're working on RCStream, I think it's best to just keep the old irc
channels the way they are until we (eventually) shutdown irc.wikimedia.org. No
need in nitpicking over channel names and having people migrate. What we really
want is for people to migrate to stream.wikimedia.org.

The few configuration lines to keep the channel names different on
irc.wikimedia.org aren't that troublesome to just keep around.

We're still busy installing it in Eqiad data centre, but coming online very

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62266

--- Comment #15 from Gilles Dubuc gdu...@wikimedia.org ---
This personal preference is perfectly understood. Yet it's incompatible with
updating the URL, i.e. treating the image as its own page. Since pressing
escape updates the browser's URL to restore the article's address, it behaves
like visiting a new page history-wise. That's just what the browser does. My
point still stands: the only way to do cater for this request is to not treat
the image like a page of its own, i.e. not update the URL.

Any attempt to mess with the history is misguided, particularly since older
browsers are incapable of manipulating their own history.

I'll update this ticket's description to be the only possible technical change,
but I doubt that the product and UX teams will be interested in losing the
ability for people to share the image using the browser's URL.

[Bug 14843] RCFeed: Send boolean flag indicating that target page is a redirect

--- Comment #6 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com ---
The IRC RC Feed is no longer in active development (considered frozen for
backwards compatibility).

It is superseded by the JSON RC Feed. It seems valuable to have a 'redirect'
flag there.

There is currently no 'redirect' flag in the RecentChange object itself,
however we do construct such a property in the RecentChanges API query
module[1].

Seems interesting to consider adding that to RCFeedFormatter[2] as well.

The IRC RC Feed is no longer in development (considered frozen for backwards
compatibility).

It is superseded by the JSON RC Feed. Either way, it seems valuable to have
this there.

It is already part of the RecentChange object[1], and already exposed in the
RecentChanges API query module[2]. Just need to expose it in RCFeedFormatter[3]
as well.

[Bug 66172] New: stream.wikimedia.org: Implement equivalent of irc.wikimedia.org/#central for CentralAuth log (tracking)

2014-06-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66172

Bug ID: 66172
   Summary: stream.wikimedia.org: Implement equivalent of
irc.wikimedia.org/#central for CentralAuth log
(tracking)
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: wmf-deployment
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: tracking
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Stream
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: krinklem...@gmail.com
CC: krinklem...@gmail.com, o...@wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Afaik this is the only non-standard channel we have on irc.wikimedia.org that
is not provided by mediawiki-core's RCFeedFormatter (not even indirectly or via
a hook). It is a completely standalone thing in the CentralAuth extension that
just looks a lot like it (enough to make it blend in).

This isn't an actionable bug, and its dependencies don't really make sense (is
all that going to happen and have a common interface?).
