to wikidata.org on the 9th

Documentation? What will downstream users like us need to do to support
this? How is this mapped to JSON? How is this mapped to RDF?

* Article Placeholder: We'll get it to test.wikipedia.org
 on the 9th
* new datatype for identifiers: we'll bring it to wikidata.org
on the 16th. We'll convert existing properties
according to the list on
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Addshore/Identifiers in two rounds on
17th and 18th.
* In Other Projects Sidebar: We'll enable it by default on 16th for all
projects that do not opt-out on https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T103102.
* interwiki links via Wikidata for Wikiversity: We'll enable phase 1 on
Wikiversity on the 23rd.

So some more numbers for the same period:

NS 0 & USER ONLY

  cache_statuscount
  pass6445
  hit 14140
  miss234885
  Time taken: 528.378 seconds, Fetched: 3 row(s)

NS 0 ALL USERS & SPIRDERS

  cache_statuscount
  pass7405
  hit 304905
  miss1996823
  Time taken: 556.433 seconds, Fetched: 3 row(s)

We decided in IRC that this still doesn't help us determine logged in vs logged
out users.
This is due to the fact that the first time a logged in user views an item page
it is a MISS, and after that it is a PASS
Thus its all just a bit to mixed together

Trying something else now and we should have some rough numbers tomorrow and
better numbers at the end of the week.

Good find. That commit was first deployed in wmf8 which was branched on Dec 8

I think it was rMWd03c5be5e340: Make HTMLCacheUpdate always use the job queue
.
I am not sure how I missed that change until now. The change made all purging
go through the job queue, whereas previously if the number of backlinks was
less than 100, the purges would be dispatched synchronously, in the main
request context.

2016-02-01 Thread Edgard Marx
Yep,

Please notes that RDFSlice will take the subset.
That is, the triples that contain the property that you are looking for.
Here go three examples of SPARQL queries:

ps: you can try them here https://query.wikidata.org.

** For your example,*

Thank you for creating those alternatives to give us some inspiration. I don't
think we can make it that compact because we need a layout that also works on

But it'll still need more cleaning up.

2016-02-01 Thread BBlack
BBlack added a comment.

Another data point from the weekend: In one sample I took Saturday morning,
when I sampled for 300s, the top site being purged was srwiki, and something
like 98% of the purges flowing for srwiki were all Talk: pages (well, with
Talk: as %-encoded something in Serbian). When I visited random examples of
the purged Talk pages, the vast majority of the ones I checked were
content-free (as in, nobody had talked about the given article at all yet, it
was showing the generic initial blob). These had to be coming from a job
obviously, the question is what kind of job wants to rip through (probably)
every talk page on a wiki, blank ones included, for purging (or alternatively,
it was ripping through the entire page list, and I just happened to catch it on
a batch of Talk: ones)? @faidon suggested a template used in those pages, but
then what's triggering the template? Surely not wikidata on a template for
blank talk pages?

Re: [Wikidata] Wikidata - short biographies

2016-02-01 Thread Hampton Snowball
Thank you. This will give me the bios, however, I still want the associated
wikipedia links. Previously someone had given me a query that included the
english wikipedia along with another property. You can see it below:

PREFIX wd:
PREFIX wdt:
PREFIX rdfs:
PREFIX schema:

SELECT ?item  ?twitter ?article WHERE {
  ?item wdt:P2002 ?twitter
  OPTIONAL {?item rdfs:label ?item_label filter (lang(?item_label) = "en")
.}

  ?article schema:about ?item .
  ?article schema:inLanguage "en" .
  FILTER (SUBSTR(str(?article), 1, 25) = "https://en.wikipedia.org/;)

 }
ORDER BY ASC (?article)

*I tried to take the PREFIX header and this portion to append to some of
your queries. *

  ?article schema:about ?item .
  ?article schema:inLanguage "en" .
  FILTER (SUBSTR(str(?article), 1, 25) = "https://en.wikipedia.org/;)

*The first one, which seems to be only for 1 record, just as a test seemed
to give me an ERROR though:*

PREFIX wd:
PREFIX wdt:
PREFIX rdfs:
PREFIX schema:

SELECT *
WHERE
{

?o .
filter(lang(?o)='en').

?article schema:about ?item .
?article schema:inLanguage "en" .
FILTER (SUBSTR(str(?article), 1, 25) = "https://en.wikipedia.org/;)
}

*So I assume the other queries like this would not work (would timeout on
query.wikidata.org so can't test):*

PREFIX wd:
PREFIX wdt:
PREFIX rdfs:
PREFIX schema:

SELECT *
WHERE
{
   ?s ?o .
   filter(lang(?o)='en').

?article schema:about ?item .
?article schema:inLanguage "en" .
FILTER (SUBSTR(str(?article), 1, 25) = "https://en.wikipedia.org/;)
}

So am I doing something wrong with these combined queries in the syntax?

Thanks in advance again, and the help thus far!

Thanks. I looked at one of them and the only thing in the page is the template
for the header they have. This was also the only edit ever to that page. In the
header template itself however there was an edit on the 30th:
https://sr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%B1%D0%BB%D0%BE%D0%BD:%D0%A1%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0_%D0%B7%D0%B0_%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B3%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D1%80=11598672=11292766

Hi everyone,

A few blockers turned up that we have now solved. We have scheduled it for
the 16th. If your project would like to opt-out please add a note to the

[Wikidata] upcoming deployments/features

2016-02-01 Thread Lydia Pintscher
Hey folks :)

I just sat down with Katie to plan the next important feature deployments
that are coming up this month. Here is the plan:
* new datatype for mathematical expressions: We'll get it live on
test.wikidata.org tomorrow and then bring it to wikidata.org on the 9th
* Article Placeholder: We'll get it to test.wikipedia.org on the 9th
* new datatype for identifiers: we'll bring it to wikidata.org on the 16th.
We'll convert existing properties according to the list on
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Addshore/Identifiers in two rounds on
17th and 18th.

Cheers

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T125404: [Wikidata] Tracking UI interaction

2016-02-01 Thread Addshore
Addshore created this task.
Addshore added subscribers: Addshore, Lydia_Pintscher.
Addshore added projects: WMDE-Analytics-Engineering, Wikidata.
Herald added subscribers: StudiesWorld, Aklapper.

TASK DESCRIPTION
It may make sense to split this task when it comes to implementation..
Everything explained below has an inherent, make some way to display the
data... (grafana)

JavaScript events can be tracked directly to graphite using
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/ResourceLoader/Modules#mw.track
We would want to track events as counters (implementation example on the
wikipage)

https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-WikimediaEvents/blob/master/modules/ext.wikimediaEvents.statsd.js#L43-59

**Track every click to an edit link**

As far as I know this can be done somewhere in
jquery.wikibase.edittoolbar.js, potentially with the "afterstartediting" event.
event.target could be used to track the type of edit link.

The resulting metric name should be something
like"wikibase.ui.event.edit.start.TYPE"

**Track every render of the Special edit pages**

  This should be split up:

# The UI edit links should also contain a parameter, for example
http://localhost/w/index.php/Special:SetLabelDescriptionAliases/Q12/en-gb?fromUI=1
fromUI can then be checked in the PHP and calls with this parameters can be
tracked, as "wikibase.ui.specialpage.uimiss.TYPE"
# The special pages should also contain a small amount of JS code to track
users using the special page when they have JS. Something like
"wikibase.ui.specialpage.js.TYPE"
# The special page should also track the number of calls regardless of the
fromUI parameter existing or not. "wikibase.ui.specialpage.all.TYPE"

The three change above would allow the tracking of:

- Special page usage vs JS UI usage
- People that choose to use the Special pages (both with and without JS)
- People that end up on the Special pages due to clicking before the JS has
loaded fully

**Track errors surfaced throguh the UI**

These could be tracked in the JS, although it may make more sense for these
to be tracked in PHP in the API.
It could be possible to distinguish API calls that are made by the UI vs API
calls made by bots if an extra parameter is passed to the UI, perhaps fromUI=1
again as mentioned above.
Error counts of key errors could then simply be sent to statsd in PHP.
Example metric name could be: "wikibase.api.error.NAME"

  **Track usage of key gadgets**

With the JS tracking needed in the first point I imagine some nice methods
will be used similar to the example linked.
This could allow gadget to record the number of clicks on key buttons (such
as opening the gadget)
Firstly this should be done with the LabelLister gadget
  For example: "wikibase.ui.gadget.NAME.EVENT"
Note: we don't really want to track very much here, at most 1 or 2 key events
per gadget"

  **Track collapses & expands**

Very similar to the first point expands and collapses of sections should be
recorded.
This should again be recorded with the type of element being expanded or
collapsed.
  For example: "wikibase.ui.event.expand.TYPE"

Re: [Wikidata] Wikidata - short biographies

Wikidata seems to be highly queried by now, it is a public endoint.

However, the query bellow might work in RDFSlice:

ps: notice that the subject variable (?article) contains the wikipedia link
and it will be extracted.

SELECT *

{
   ?article ?o .
   ?article ?o1 .

I talked to Gabriel about plans to obsolete link tables and he told me, that
there are no immediate plans to replace local link tables (which includes this

It is a string representing markup for the Math extension. You can already
test it here: http://wikidata.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Q117940. See also
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Displaying_a_formula. Maybe Moritz wants
to say bit more as his students created the datatype.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T125392: [Task] figure out the ratio of page views by logged-in vs. logged-out users

2016-02-01 Thread daniel

@addshore: So, vcl_pass would cover anything that bypasses caches? That
includes (most) API requests, (most) special pages (including Special:Search),
as well as logged in users viewing regular pages.

vcl_hit = if the requested document was found in the cache
vcl_miss = if the requested document was not found in the cache
vcl_pass = the request is passed on to the backend (nocache)

Not sure what the - cache_status means at this stage
