workflow would be to pair free-form terms (like your names) with the
WIKISEARCH function and only then feed its output into WIKIDATAQID (or
rather directly WIKIDATAFACTS, as it accepts qids or article titles
directly). If this doesn't help, again the offer to share your spreadsheet
so I can have a direct look.

This is probably due to the the links are currently created using the LinkRenderer class, which uses interwiki prefixes. We do not have individual interwiki prefixes for all the wikisource projects - "chained" interwikis would have to be used, e.g. en:wikisource:Special:EntityUsage.

Proposed solution: generate HTML directly instead of using LinkRenderer. We already have code for linking to these sites in SiteLinksView. TASK DESCRIPTIONWikiPageEntityRevisionLookup loads entity data directly from a mediawiki database. It already supports accessign a "foreign" wiki database (not the local wiki). It now needs to support foreign entity IDs. To achieve this, we must do two things:

check that the EntityId used to request the desired entity revision belongs to the correct repository. That is, EntityId::getRepositoryName should return the name of the repo to corresponds to the database name used by the WikiPageEntityRevisionLookup. Note that repo name and database name are usually but not necessarily the same. We can assume that the repo name is the same as the global site ID.
the factory logic that instantiates the WikiPageEntityRevisionLookup must make sure to provide a EntityContentDataCodec that uses a Deserializer that is configured to apply the correct ID prefix mapping for the given foreign repo. We may want to introduce a ForeignEntityRevisionLookupFactory for this purpose, which can be used to acquire an EntityRevisionLookup for a given repo. Creating that interface should be tracked in a separate task.

@Lucie and I also talked about this, and we decided that the first notable thousand (by entity id) are probably also pretty close to the most important thousand. Also this allows us to start with a very limited trial easily (no need to start indexing more than a few thousand placeholders: We can only do that easily if the indexable ids (or id range in this case) are/ is well know).

If the new thing allows us to use it as a replacement for passing LoadBalancer to encapsulate connections and for DBConnRef entirely, that would be a way forward, but just adding another thing sounds awry to me.

The new ConnectionManager thingy would be a replacement for passing LoadBalancer + wiki name + groups. It encapsulates the same information as a DBConnRef, but it would be different in some ways:

it would not implement the DatabaseBase interface
it would not hog a connection permanently.
it would not automatically release anything when going out of scope.

To me, DBConnRef is a way to automatically release a connection after using it. It's basically a C++ style "automatic object" version of the Database object. So a DBConnRef's scope should be a single method invocation, it should not be a member. The new ConnectionManager could very well have a getConnectionRef() method in addition to a getConnection() method.

For the task at hand: to whatever is simple and gets the job done. If you don't want to mess with core, the simplest way would be to just pass the groups in addition to the wiki name. [Wikidata] Birthday: Parser function, Scholia, and a new story

We received several birthday presents from editors, that's so great! Maybe
you already know about *Scholia *, a
tool to create scholarship profiles built on the Query Service. Its creator
fnielsen  added a search
field, you can now type the name of a person (or the Qid) to see more about
researchers' education, employers and publications. Thanks Finn for your
work!


Lastly, let me introduce you a improved feature my colleagues are offering
you for the birthday: *the parser function {{#statements:…}}*.

As you may know, for three years the function {{#property:…}} is deployed
on all Wikimedia projects and allows you to display data from Wikidata,
without using LUA. For example, the code {{#property:P1559|from=Q42}} will
display Douglas Adams.

We improved this tool in a new parser function: {{#statements:…}}.

The new wikitext format renders statement values as *syntactically
meaningful elements* instead of just plain text. For example, entity IDs
are clickable links that link to the corresponding article, external
identifiers link to the external authority, and Commons media files are
rendered as thumbnails. The new output format will be available via a new
{{#statements:…}} parser function, via a new “formatStatements” Lua
function, and via the “wbformatentity” API, when used with
“generate=text/x-wiki”.

The new parser function is in early development. The output produce may
change any time. {{#statements:…}} is currently disabled on all wikis
except the beta cluster. We hope to enable it within the next weeks when we
consider the feature stable enough. For now, you can see and test it on the
beta German Wikipedia. *See an example and the difference between the two
