  We could move forward with work in this area now and expose the checks that 
we do run on edit and cache in a queue for wdqs to pick up.
  But it is probably worth waiting for both T204031 
, T204024 
 and T214362 
 to be done, so setting to stalled 
for now.

  Are you using the wikidata query UI, or some other script to run the query?
  If your hitting the endpoint in a script, what request exactly are you 
making? to what path?
  It looks like the 403 came from the varnish layer rather than the query 
service itself?
  The query works just fine for me currently.
  Unfortunatly 403s don't appear in log stash as far as I can tell.

  So, looking that the maint script and job code that is actually run batching 
already occurs.
  Firstly the maint script runs a job for each property synchronously.
  Within those jobs some batching, or kind of batching seems to be happening, 
but is not configurable and doesn't look perfect.

  Although batch size is 10, more than 10 things could actually end up being in

  In terms of arbitrary sleeps that a runner of the maint script could pass in,

  As for batch size, it looks like calling insertBatch only results in a single 
insert which is nice.
  And the current default in the job means right now we are working with mostly 
batches of 10.

 defines the default batch size for maintenance scripts currently at 200, it's 
probably fine to use that default and pass it down to the job.

  I'm not super sure silencing errors is a good idea here. The number of edits 
on properties are really small (once in several minutes) and we are getting 
errors at this ratio. That doesn't seem right. Let me dig deep in this tomorrow.

  So checking one the properties that cause one of these logs 
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P4189 .. it has the value of 
西藏和喜馬拉雅圖書館藏文轉寫 twice, in Chinese and Traditional Chinese. The lag is hit 
probably due to the fact that the current frontend will send separate requests 
per language. Effectively in this case sending a request for Chinese containing 
this value, that inserts it into master and another for Traditional Chinese 
that tries to insert again into master as replica hasn't caught up from the 
insert from previous request.
  
  Waiting on replication here won't solve the problem then, as it would wait on 
replication for current request changes as far as I understand the 
documentation.
  
  Our best option here seems to be silencing those errors. That should be fine 
as they are not persistent. Once replica catches up, they would not happen 
again unless similar situation for a new value (used twice across languages) 
appear in the same edit (causing such several requests with similar values).

  So the error appears because Database.php in core logs those errors 
internally. There is a away to silence those errors, by passing a flag 
`IDatabase::QUERY_SILENCE_ERRORS` to `IDatabase::query()`. Issue is, 
`IDatabase::insert` does not seem to accept such flags, and it calls 
`IDatabase::query` without passing any flags (defaulting to logging the error 
here).
  
  This means if we want to solve it by silencing those errors (as they are 
expected due to lag, by design) we will have to patch core to allow passing 
flags to `insert()`

  Thank you for the update. Since SDC and Wikidata are based on the same 
underlying software, I was (naively) imagining that this task was more like 
extending mw.wikibase.getEntity to go to www.wikidata.org if input string 
starts with "Q" and go to commons.wikimedia.org if input string starts with 
"M". However apparently there is much more to it than that.

  It can be lag issue between replica and master. I'm also suspecting another 
issue that we faced once. Reading a record from replica once didn't match the 
existing record due to the silent truncation mariadb was doing, resulting in 
trying to reinsert the same record again into master. At the time, I though 
that this could theoretically happen if reading doesn't match again what 
already exist, perhaps for encoding-related issue or smth of that sort.

  What ReplicaMasterAwareRecordIdAcquirer does is that in this case, it then 
reads from master, and potentially tries to insert again if it still didn't get 
all the records it is searching for.
  
  A solution that saves us from log spam and keeps this scalable solution is 
probably to catch and not log those Duplicate entiry errors to the log somehow.

  Sorry about the delay in the update, but I'm currently meeting with the SDC 
team in person and we're discussing this task in real-time.
  
  The SDC development team is going to have to look into what it takes to get 
this done - or if not this, some other technical solution that would allow the 
dynamic updating of templates from structured data. The team currently is 
unable to do this on their own, so it will require some external partnership to 
make this happen and WMDE does not have the resources to assist with this task.
  
  So, this is going to take some time to complete. I have no idea how long for 
a timeframe, the team will have to talk to other teams and figure out how to

  So, it looks like this is probably a race condition within 
ReplicaMasterAwareRecordIdsAcquirer.
  
  It looks like generally the slave will be read ( i didnt look into 
isIgnoringReplica much but it looks like it is only used in 
restoreCleanedUpIds).
  If the records are not in the slave insertNonExistingRecordsIntoMaster will 
be called which does a plane insert not accounting or the possible race 
condition.
  And INSERT IGNORE here would probably solve this particular issue.
  
  The alternative would be check the slave, then check the master and then try 
the insert. But that is probably not the preferred solution for the scale we 
are talking about.

  I have moved the files wikidata-20190624-all.json.gz and 
wikidata-20190624-all.json.bz2 to filenames that end in .not. The 'latest' 
links for the json bz2 and gz files are now broken; this lets people know that 
the link s are missing instead of beguiling them into reprocessing last week's 
runs.

  It is not a problem to export the userInputTex unless people start to use it. 
At that point our efforts to change the input format towards a more standard 
conform LaTeX input (for instance by deprecating `\and` or `\or`, which 
conflict with regular LaTeX command and sometime lead to strange behavoir in a 
standard LaTeX setup) will conflict with the interest of potential users of 
that new format. Currently, in there is no other place where the userInputTex 
is displayed or used.

  Somehow I think the currently formulated above is probably too complicated to 
solve the initial problem. The idea is that an input of
  
c^2=a^2+b^2
  
  leads to a triple that contains only:
  
c^2=a^2+b^2
  
  as would it be if it was a mere string.
  
  This doesn't to lead to a change to the other triples. Using psn: seems like 
a standard way of doing so.
  
  Shall I create a separate ticket for that or update the task description?

  Thanks for explanation. I was just not sure if this was intended or not, as I 
do remember that the removal of ruby Wikibase stuff has already been claimed 
premature earlier. Having those jobs restored would be cool, but if it waits a 
few days that'd be cool.
  For clarity, once resolved, we should probably close this task ,as it seems 
to bring more confusion than value.

It's true; they require no joins are are designed to be answerable by
only looking at the index. That said, given that they offer virtually
no load, running them with API access to the Blaze getStatements() [2]
would make validation thousands of times faster and eliminate parsing
and query planning time on the SPARQL server.

  As far as I have learned, we follow this process:

  So either we have different migraiton processes, and we are using a different 
one, that is:

  Or I learned completely wrong.
  
  So currently the implementation we have does the following:

  It is easy to perform some sanitization or conversion on the original string 
if you need it.
  
  It is impossible to get back the original, human-readable LaTeX string from 
some sanitized version.
  
  And even more, the current sanitization introduces errors, so the user is 
forced to input a wrong LaTeX string in order to get the desired rendering on 
MediaWiki and every other application that tries to render this string with 
LaTeX or MathJax will fail.

TASK DESCRIPTION
  As a deployer, I want to run the 
`extensions/WikibaseQualityConstraints/maintenance/ImportConstraintStatements.php`
 maintenance script when necessary in order to resolve problems with the 
constraint definitions, without having to worry about its impact on the wiki.
  
  **Problem:**
  The maintenance script currently imports constraint statements for all 
properties in a simple loop, with no offset, limit, batching, or sleeping. This 
only takes a few minutes – less than 10 ms for most properties, not much more 
for some larger properties, and we’re still well below 1 properties – but 
it was enough to cause a visible traffic spike on the s8 master db host 

 during the deployment for T223372  
(around 13:17 UTC). As Wikidata keeps getting more properties, I believe this 
will gradually become more important.
  
  **Example:**
  We could group the imports into batches (with some default batch size, e. g. 
100) and sleep between each batch (default e. g. 3 s). Batch size and sleep 
time should be configurable via command line arguments.
  
  Some offset/limit arguments could also be added, so that a deployer can first 
import constraint statements for the first 1000 properties, then proceed later 
with the next 1000, and so on.

  OK, you mean "exact string matching for the input LaTeX source code" (i.e., 
`a + b` is different from `a+b`). That's correct. However, would it not be 
better to use a more generic approach for that? For example, how would I search 
for a certain javascript input value or (for example a picture) or whatever.

  I'd prefer to remove and wait for the new run, but I'd like @Smalyshev 's 
opinion on whether the dumps are most likely fixed, or not, since he was the 
one who handled the broken deployment at the time.
