Should truthy dump also include full property definitions? Because if you use only /prop/direct/ there's not much use to include other predicates, though technically it doesn't hurt anything.

@Hadyelsahar Not sure what you mean by "skipped". It's normal for labels to be encoded with \u sequences, since not all tools can handle all Unicode properly, unfortunately. There are a couple issues with this that make it more complicated than I thought:


The Wikidata revision ID is only in rc_params, so it's not joinable.  It's also in wb_changes, but that doesn't have the rc_id or anything allowing joining to recentchanges AFAICT.
The ORES tables are per-wiki, so we wouldn't be able to join recentchanges from this DB to the wikidatawiki ORES table.


We could potentially solve 1 by one of:
1a. Putting the real Wikidata revision ID into rc_this_oldid.  Not sure if this is a good idea.
1b. Adding rc_id to wb_changes.

We could potentially solve 2 by one of:
2a. Fully centralizing the relevant ORES tables, with a 'wiki' column name.
2b. @cscott The Wikibase code looks at LanguageConverter::$languagesWithVariants. The problem is that before the patch that list did not contain en but now it does. And depending on whether the language is there or not, getParentLanguage() for en returns different results - it returned null before, but with the patch it returns object for en so English is parent of itself now. The description of FALLBACK_VARIANTS suggests that's what languages with variants should do, but not what languages without variants do. The problem seems to be Wikibase assumes en is the latter, but the patch changes it to the former.

@jcrespo: Related to your first comment, the patch that I provided a link to (in my comment from one month ago) is now invalid since we are no longer planning on using a separate table in order to implement statement tracking. A new patch should be ready soon implementing statement tracking with wbc_entity_usage.

Unfortunately, it is hard to estimate impact -- and so we want to deploy statement tracking to a medium-sized Wikipedia and then estimate the load this will have. Unfortunately the failing test result was not copied to this ticket, and now that the last patch set is about two months old all test results are already deleted. @jcrespo: We have decided to update the existing wbc_entity_usage table in order to allow for statement tracking (probably done via the "eu_aspect_id" field). We would do an initial deployment to a medium-sized Wikipedia at first and calculate database IO load. We will be able to undo any database changes made in this initial deployment, it will not affect current tracking being done in wbc_entity_usage. Three medium-sized Wikipedias that @hoo and I have considered for this deployment are :


Korean
Greek
Turkish

TASK DESCRIPTIONWith https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/345292 I attempted to:

simply remove code that already started hurting us because of easy to confuse parameters, and
work towards a higher goal of having a set of a few very simple, clean, and easy to use constructors.

I believe the frustration in the patch comments are partly caused by me failing to make 2. transparent. I did not expected the need to explain 2. in advance. I imagined 1. to be enough, and 2. only being relevant in future patches.

What I did now is counting all current usages of the Lexeme constructor. I found only one non-empty constructor in production code (in the deserializer). All other constructor calls are exclusively used in tests, with these combinations of parameters:

ID only: 9 usages
Lemmas only: 3
Lemmas + ID: 4
Lexical category only: 1
Lexical category + ID: 2
Language only: 1
Language + ID: 2
Lexical category + language only: 3
Lexical category + language + ID: 7
All: 3 usages

I suggest to reduce the default constructor to a single, still optional ItemId $id = null parameter. This covers the two most relevant use-cases. Currently all entity types have a nullable ID parameter as the first one. I find it nice to keep this symmetry, and would even expect it.

We may add one or two more optional parameters to the default constructor, but this is already highly disputable. Which set of parameters would that be?

ID + forms + senses might make sense because this is the rough, basic structure of a Lexeme without going into any detail.
ID + lemmas appear to make sense because a Lexeme without at least one lemma is useless in production, similar to an Item with no label. But this is barely needed in tests.
ID + statements feels like it doesn't make much sense, because forms and senses have statements too.

So I suggest to stick to ID only for now, and possibly add parameters for forms and senses when both are implemented.

I suggest two static constructors with different guarantees:

newFromLanguageAndLexicalCategory( ItemId $language, ItemId $lexicalCategory )
newFromIdLanguageAndLexicalCategory( ItemId $id, ItemId $language, ItemId $lexicalCategory )

The second one guarantees that the Lexeme is completely initialized and LexemeContent::isValid will consider it valid. The first is the same, but with no ID for convenience in tests. I suggest to not merge these two use-cases into one with an optional ID parameter. Note that no parameter in this suggestion is nullable/optional. Also note that this suggestion includes changing the order of language and lexical category.

I tried to create a federated setup using the provided documentation, to see if it’s sufficient. I eventually succeeded, but there were some problems. Here are my main takeaways:

I had no idea how to set up interwiki links, and the first documentation I found was outdated. Is the usual consumer of this documentation assumed to be familiar with this? (In the end it’s just a single SQL statement, so I’d say we could include it anyways.)
I was not sure what I should put in the foreignRepositories config. What are entity types ('item' (correct) or 'Item' (namespace, incorrect))? Is a symbolic database name the same as a normal database name? What’s the base URI for? (I still don’t know the answer to the last question – the link to the remote item comes from the interwiki URL, not this base URI.)

(It’s possible that this, too, is assumed to be clear to the usual reader, and that I’m just unusually unfamiliar with these terms.)

I first tried to have local and remote items and properties, and got this error:

This is, in my opinion, a very severe restriction. As far as I can tell, this effectively means that a federated setup without the WikibaseMediaInfo extension, or some other extension providing entity types beyond item and property, does not make sense – you need local items (otherwise you don’t have anything to put statements on), so the only thing you can take from the remote repository is properties. The documentation should definitely mention that.

At one point, I got a really weird error ($wgContLang was null) when I had two entries in the foreignRepositories config. Are multiple entries supported?

Attempting to configure a repo with no local entities at all ($wgWBRepoSettings['entityNamespaces'] = [];) resulted in an error message in the setup scripts. I assume the interpretation of “empty array ≈ unset variable” is unintentional.

And using composer-merge-plugin would only make sense if we were building the vendor on the fly during the deployment process, as it could then crawl and include as necessary..

Expecting everyone to have the same dev setup so that a composer.local.json type file that pointed to Wikidata being in the right place...

Just add the stuff you need to mediawiki-vendor? :) Presumably everything that's in Wikidata/vendor should just go into mediawiki-vendor. Not tracking dev-master though, because that will mean random people doing composer update will get random updates that they won't know if they should be committed

It might be easier if you've some sort of tracking package, so you don't have to update each library individually in the vendor repo to go with the bumps... TASK DESCRIPTIONIn T162790 we created an ugly but editable version of editing the grammatical features of a Form. We now want it to make it pretty. It should have a similar look to statements. (But it should not have references, qualifiers and ranks. The property part of the statement is not an existing property and not linked but instead hard-coded text.

The grammatical feature part of a form seamlessly integrates with its statements.
I can view and edit existing grammatical forms.
I can add new grammatical features.

What @Krinkle has suggested sounds like a good plan at glance!
We just need to make sure that all tests are run in such set up. I will be looking at differences between jobs, and keep spamming here if I find something relevant.

Wikimedia solely uses MySQL, my understanding is that the sqlite jobs were kept around since developers tend to use sqlite on their development box.

This in general sounds like a good explanation of why sqlite jobs are around. As such it makes them quite good candidates for jobs to be kicked out.
However, as far as I understand, there are few tests that are skipped in mysql jobs and only run as part of sqlite jobs. Those are test of functionality where there some more complex DB queries are done. PHPUnit test use temporary tables and MySQL does not allow self-joins on temporary tables, so those test must be skipped. We still want to have those test run, so that seems like a good reason to
That said, there is only a handful of such tests. Maybe it makes sense to have a sqlite job running only those tests that are skipped in mysql jobs? That would should be quite performant, I assume. We could use a separate @group tag for those or so.
