The empty items seem to be from property suggestions mechanism. The property suggestions API offers some properties even before the user typed anything. So, I took some time investigating this. 

The issue seems to be impacting category pages only.

I assume languages for different categories are sourced from Wikidata.

For this page:

I see a link to jam (Jumiekan Patwa) wikipedia (https://jam.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Kiandidet_fi_kuik-kuik_diliishan)

However when I visit
https://din.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bek%C3%A4takthook:Candidates_for_speedy_deletion or https://din.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%ABc%C3%ABweek:MobileLanguages/Bek%C3%A4takthook:Candidates_for_speedy_deletion I cannot access the Jumiekan Patwa version of that language via Universal Language selector OR mobile, even though it exists.

This means we're not making certain languages available to our users and seems worthy of further investigation.

Do I understand this right that is is for the case when a) Main namespace is not an entity namespace and b) you do not want the search box to actually search entity namespaces?

T190454: Display entity & article namespace completion search together should of course solve this but I feel it's long way to go so an option to remove the override is a plus. TASK DESCRIPTIONAs a wiki administrator, I want to be able to install Wikibase on an existing wiki without disturbing its current users.

Problem:
Wikibase unconditionally overrides MediaWiki’s standard search box with a custom search box that only searches items. That’s fine for Wikidata, and for other wikis where the Wikibase repository is the main functionality, but it’s a problem if there’s also other interesting stuff on the wiki, as on the OpenStreetMap wiki where @Yurik recently set up Wikibase.

Acceptance criteria:


There is an option to disable the custom search box and leave the standard search box in place.


Workaround
This is a super ugly hack, but it works, at least on my local wiki:

LocalSettings.php// add this after the Wikibase extension is loaded
$wgResourceModules['wikibase.ui.entitysearch']['scripts'] = [];

However, this may not be possible in more complicated setups, depending on how settings are loaded there.

Implementation note:
The search box is implemented in the wikibase.ui.entitysearch ResourceLoader module, which is added to output pages in the RepoHooks::onBeforePageDisplay function. An alternative approach would be to listen for change events instead of for input events: change only fires when the change “is committed by the user”, e. g. when the input field loses focus. @Jan_Dittrich I think context of use is correct for Wikidata, but not for some other Wikibase installations.  Wikibase may not be the centerpiece of the wiki installation.

For example, OpenStreetMap wiki has recently installed Wikibase extension. I've added the location attr as optional for the main slot, with the intent that it gets used when we have some other schema than 'tt' in play. The next version would have the id attr as optional + deprecated for the main slot, only permitted to be written for blobs with the 'tt' schema, and the location attr as mandatory. How does that sound?

Sounds mostly good, except that we have to bump the XML schema when we want to do T183490: MCR schema migration stage 4: Migrate External Store URLs (wmf production). If we made id optional & deprecated right away, we wouldn't have to do that. Perhaps this is one of the questions to answer during the RFC discussion.

Also, I don't see why location should be optional. Why not just always output it? Afterall, it's what we want people to use in the future, why not make it easy for them to use it now? Though I'm not sure who actually consumes these attributes, and for what purpose. I wasn't happy with the different formats for the same attribute name either, using a different name for the content text id is grand!  Using anyURI makes for a simpler schema too.

Hi Ariel! Thanks for updating. Sorry for the confusion about the address format, I thought you knew this was already in. This is what the content_address field contains. I tried to explain the idea in August, see T199121#4529353.

Main slot still only gets an id number for text id (this is required for backwards compat)

This would break as soon as we start addressing external store entries directly - at that point, there will be no corresponding rows in the text table any more.

Perhaps this can be solved by using a new "address" attribute for the full address, and provide the old id attribute on the main slot's text tag (or even all text tags) if possible (that is, if the address is a "tt:" address). The id should then be marked deprecated and optional (or should become optional in the next version of the spec - but then we'd have to fail the export when encountering a non-tt address).

Leaving the id attribute as int, and introducing a new address attribute for the full address seems cleaner in any case. Using different formats for the id attribute of the text tag depending on where the text tag is used seems very confusing.

Is that pattern regex in the schema ok?

It's a bit too restrictive. One thing that should definitely work there are addresses pointing to external store, which requires flags to be embedded in the address, resulting in something like this: ex:DB://cluster5/7633454/89?utf8. I wish I'd had a pointer to the changes in Storage/Blobstore.php and SqlBlobStore.php earlier, didn't realize this new form of text addressing was baked in already. Anyways, I've revised the draft accordingly, sorry for the long delay. Main slot still only gets an id number for text id (this is required for backwards compat); text id in content element gets schema:location format. Is that pattern regex in the schema ok?

Per slot suppression should still be ok even for 'main'; if the main slot is suppressed then we want to output a text element  just as we do now if the entire revision is suppressed.

Hopefully that addresses the last of the concerns. The following points are of concern at https://database.factgrid.de/wiki/Main_Page a wikibase instance at the university of Erfurt and (and joint venture with Wikimedia.de and I am not quite sure how to turn them into tickets.


We are using the regular query service: https://database.factgrid.de/query/ but we cannot present examples on our data (Wikidata sample queries do not work on our site) (this is our make-shift: https://database.factgrid.de/wiki/Sample_queries

TASK DESCRIPTIONFollowing T198203, now when a gloss language code is incorrect, the "Publish" button is blocked and an error message appears. 
This behaviour is correct, but when I start typing a language code, for example "fr", as soon as I type the "f", the field immediately gets red, the error message appears, and that's confusing, since I didn't finish typing the code.

Ideally, we would have a solution to keep blocking the save button and warning the user, while letting them the time to type the language code quietly.

Here's what I suggest:


keep the Publish button blocked as long as the language code is incorrect
wait 5 seconds and check again before displaying the error message and coloring the field in red
