Re: [WikiEducator] A teacher is interested in her students taking the L4C course

2009-12-06 Thread Mary
Thanks for the quick response. What should I do next to help this teacher?

Should I forward this message to the teacher in question or forward it to
the google of teachers she belongs to in case other teachers are also
interested (or might that overload the capabilitites of what wikieducator is
able to provide)?
Should I tell her to join this google group so she can speak directly with
you Wayne and Anil?

- Students are most welcome to join any of our online L4C workshops --
if they're minors, I recommend that this is done under teacher supervision

Dear Dr. Wayne and other friends,

We may plan a module on WE to place wiki and OER development online
training requests as Mary Ziller has done and Volunteer Educators to take up
the assignment in the same way UN runs Online Volunteering www.*
 onlinevolunteering*.org/ http://www.onlinevolunteering.org/ in addition
to the existing funded L4C or funded L4C may also be made a part of it.

There will be separate forms for placing Training Requirements capturing
all the required information regarding location, contact person, number of
participants, level of training, preferred time and duration etc Similarly
volunteer registration modules will also capture all the required details as
we are doing already for L4C facilitators.

And necessarily there should be a volunteer contract for the successful
 conduction of each training programme

 Thougts??

Mary,

We would love more members and participants in our effort towards 'open

[WikiEducator] Using UNV Online Volunteering

2009-12-06 Thread Phil Bartle
I think that it is a good idea, for training students how to use WikiEducator.

We have used UNV OV for several years, although our way of doing it is
different from how WikiEd will need to do it.

Important thing is that we have volunteer coordinators, who guide
volunteers through their assignments, encourage them when they show
signs of slipping away, and keeping track of who is doing what.

Cheers,
Phil

Re: [WikiEducator] Using UNV Online Volunteering

2009-12-06 Thread Randy Fisher
Hi Everyone,

Just for fun, I went to look at the registration area and application form.

What I saw, tells me that Wayne is the one to fill it out, as we need a
Registration Certificate to be uploaded, and as the OER Foundation is the
organization supporting WikiEducator, that's what we need. (WikiEducator
is a project - as I understand it, the community 'owns' it, but it doesn't
have any legal status).

So, to make things easier, I've created a page on the wiki, where the
appropriate information can be inputted -- because it's a real pain to go
through one of these applications, and then realize that you don't have all
of the information, and the system discards what you've already completed.
http://www.wikieducator.org/UNV

Moreover, this information will be valuable to us, as we look for national,
regional and local opportunities to attract volunteers, to work on projects
of importance to us, in our growing international WikiEducator community.

Great points, Phil!

Re: [WikiEducator] Using UNV Online Volunteering

2009-12-06 Thread Wayne Mackintosh
Hi Randy, Phil

I think UNV is a great concept and also thank everyone for thinking about
creative ways in serving the WikiEducator mission :-)

I am however, a little concerned about the Copyright statement on the UNV
site, see:

http://www.onlinevolunteering.org/en/vol/copyright.html

I see that any information we submit to the UNV site will become all rights
reserved to the UN. Technically we can't do this as it is a against the core
values of the WikiEducator family.

I can of course approach the UNV administrators on behalf of the OER
Foundation / WikiEducator for an exception in the case of a WikiEducator
produced appication to license the information we create under our default
open content licenses. Should be an interesting test case :-).

Thoughts?

Cheers
