Re: [Wikimania-l] accommodation details

2016-06-16 Thread Iolanda Pensa
Dear all
yes. All the accommodation in Esino Lario have sheets and towels. We only have
a building (scout centre ex-ristoro) for which we request a seeping bag or
sheets, but it is a building we are using for some of the volunteers, in
exceptional cases and we have already informed people about it.

yes. In general there are no private bathrooms.
Please bring your toiletry (you can also buy it in the shops of the village
which will be open everyday June 22-27 with different longer times but more or
less from 9 to 8) and your hairdryer if you need one (with the necessary
adapter). I suggest you also to bring some warm cloths (sweater, jacket,
umbrella and shoes for the rain - we expect 15-20 degrees which commonly is not
very suitable for flip-flap), your adapter if needed, and some euro for taxi
(taxi almost never accept visa), for your personal expenses and as deposit for
your key if you are in Esino. There is a bank and ATM in Esino Lario but it can
be quicker to change or to withdraw money at the airport or at the Milan
railway station.

To accelerate the registration please prepare for us
1. a printed copy of your registration code
2. a printed copy of your passport
3. if possible 10 euro as a deposit for your key (only for people staying in
Esino Lario; we will not ask it to everyone but if you have it ready makes
things quicker)

thanks
iolanda

Hmmm. According to the "Getting Ready" page[1], if you are assigned to a
guesthouse or flat, they will provide bedding and towels. I think it would
be safe to assume the same for hotel rooms (although it is not specified).
However, there is specifically no mention of whether one needs to bring
bedding/towels for the "specialty lodging" (dormitory).

This was one of the reasons I wanted to know where I was staying, because I
would have asked this very question myself if I'd been assigned to
"specialty lodging".

Hi,

As I am preparing to leave, I was checking a few basic things, which I
couldn't find in the documentation
. Maybe
it is obvious, or I overlooked it - apologies in that case.

I was wondering what exactly is provided for in the accommodation. It's
shared and simple rooms, probably with shared bathrooms etc. Could you
confirm it's a cheap hotel-like setting, where bed sheets, towels etc are
provided for? It would save me luggage, so that would be great :) And am I
correct to assume that toiletries are available somewhere in the village if
need be?

Thanks for confirming!

lovely idea!! The GLAM people would love to meet up Saturday evening in one

would be "GLAM coordinators meeting" as follow up to Paris group, Wikimedia

Do you need more info or would it do so?

Will you book the room? Did I get that right?

[Wikimania-l] WMCON Follow-Up Day

2016-06-16 Thread Cornelius Kibelka
Dear Wikimania participants,

Eight weeks ago, around 200 people met in Berlin for the Wikimedia
Conference. You can find the documentation of the conference on Meta.[1]

Our approach for the Wikimedia Conference is to carry the thematic
conversations and conference strands throughout the year instead of
organizing one-shot events. This is why we introduced the role of the
Program and Engagement Coordinator. Wikimania is a perfect place to
follow-up on the process and conversations and we invite all interested
participants – no matter if you attended WMCON or not – to join us for the
“WMCON Follow-Up Day” on Thursday, June 23. At this event, you will find
the opportunity to discuss five different topics. For each topic we will
have around 90 min, which should be sufficient to discuss details and lay
the ground for further steps.

The Follow-Up Day will take place in the “Gym Palace”, the biggest
hall/room in the western part of the village. You can find all the
information in the Wikimania wiki:

https://wikimania2016.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMCON_Follow-Up_Day

For an easier planning and to increase the chances for coordination and
engagement between participants/speakers during preparation, please sign up
there.

I’m really looking forward to seeing you!

Yes, there is more information on the airport shuttle pages but still
not how to get to them. I guess it's easy to add that very helpful
information.

The only relevant question, for Malpensa, is whether buses stop at
terminal 1 or 2: probably it's terminal 1 only, but it's indeed not
written on the wiki AFAICT. Other than that, in Linate/Orio/MXP1 the
directions are going to be pretty much "take the only exit and look in
the only possible direction". After 1000 years of ever-increasing soil
consumption, Italy doesn't have the luxury of options. ;-)

Re: [Wikimania-l] transport

2016-06-16 Thread Andrew Lih
Anika, thanks for that. I think you’re right that all tickets have the June
21, 9am -> June 27, 1130pm time span on them.

That messes up some travel management systems, like Tripit, that use the
field for filling in calendars and itineraries, which is where I first
noticed the problem. As long as the reservation in the “Type” field is
accurate, I think it should be fine.
