[Wikimania-l] Badge pickup available tonight?

2012-07-11 Thread Sarah Manley
Hi,

My group is just getting into dc now. Is it still possible to pick up
conference badges so we can attend the reception tonight?

Thanks,
Sarah Manley

I wouldn't count on it at this point, unfortunately, since it is now 5 pm.

Yes, go to the Marvin Center, in the lobby (in the back) is the
registration and badge pickup.

As James said, the timing may not work out. But there are plenty of
Wikipedians hanging out on the 3rd floor if you still make it there.

You can still attend—just say you are with the conference.

Re: [Wikimania-l] Badge

2012-04-23 Thread Alan C Y Lai (Wikimedia)
Deryck has raised a fair point on real names on badges, as this would rise up
during checking-in: for real names do you mean the one on documents or do you
mean the one we are normally called? I'm usually called Alan but it's nowhere
in my official identification papers bear that name! I'm not sure about the
situation of Deryck but I supposed many Hongkongers could face a dilemma if a
strict real name policy is pursued at the door!

I think there are a number of regular Wikimania attendees who, for privacy
reasons, would not like to use their real names at Wikimania and other
offline Wikimedia activities. Enacting this new rule at this point could
 turn them away, just saying...

Actually, I am pretty sure some people do not wish to have their real
name printed on the badges alongside their nickname. I can't remember
if the question was asked (I hope it was), but the end result should
 probably be something like:

First Last (optional if Username is provided)
Username (optional if First Last is provided)
 Affiliation (if provided)
