 for CIS's A2K programme

 Hello,

I'm sorry for not including this in the original post. Here is a brief
 introduction to T. Vishnu Vardhan:

Starting in February 2013, T. Vishnu Vardhan will be Programme Director of
CIS's Access to Knowledge programme at the New Delhi office. Prior to this
position, he was the Senior Development Officer for the Sir Ratan Tata
Trust (SRTT), a position that he has help since 2007. His experience spans
across academics, industry (media) and the not-for-profit sector. Over the
last 11 years, he has worked in various capacities as a researcher, grant
manager, teacher, project consultant, information architect and
translator. Prior to joining CIS, Vishnu managed the Art, Crafts and
Culture portfolio of the SRTT, where he spent 5 years performing project
conceptualization, management and assessment of quality and impact in the
 not-for-profit sector.

Vishnu managed more than 30 projects and funds to the tune of Rs. 160
million. He also anchored SRTT’s automation and knowledge management
activities. Vishnu worked as a Research Coordinator at Centre for the
Study of Culture and Society (CSCS) in Bangalore where he coordinated the
online M.A. in Cultural Studies, managed the Library Fellowship programme,
conceptualized and coordinated national and international workshops and
short-term courses in Media and Cultural Studies, and helped in building
 academic institutional partnerships.

Vishnu is a superannuated doctoral candidate at the Centre for Media
Research, University of Ulster and CSCS, Bangalore.

 Cheers,

 Jadine

2013-01-28 Thread Jessie Wild
Congratulations, Vishnu! We are looking forward to working with you further.

As a participant in the interviewing process from WMF, I wanted to extend a
_HUGE_ thank you and congratulations to CIS for conducting such an open and
extensive hiring process. They had quite the challenge before them, and I
am impressed with their commitment to transparency and collaboration
through the process. Nice work to Jadine especially for updating us all on
what was happening!

Also, thank you to ALL OF YOU who helped in participating in the process!
Adethya Sudarsanan (volunteer), Arun Ramarathnam (Wikimedia India
representative) and Nitika Tandom (from CIS Access to Knowledge team) in
particular invested much time and energy into screening
candidates. Also, to all the community members who helped on the online
planning process: thanks for your feedback and participation.

Finally, it would be great to gather as a community how this process went.
Perhaps we could set up a page similar to one designed in Brazil to capture
both the process and the learnings?
Let me know if you think that would be helpful; I can set up the link
unless one of you beats me to it (and please feel free to:)!
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Brazil_Program/Community_Hiring_Process

I'm excited to see and learn from what India continues to contribute to the
movement.

Best,
Jessie

Well the android app will indeed serve its use for sure, thanks Yuvi,

"For a lot of us, a phone is the only accessible camera. Pretty useful." -
Sundar

I'm sorry to say and my apologies too but i think, the statement made is an
outcome of an orthodox thought process or merely an fear of inability of
exploiting the technology to its fullest use, for today mobile phones are
not merely a communication device but far more than it! and considering the
future use one should forecast the power of mobile devices and platforms!

"That language is an instrument of human reason, and not merely a medium
for the expression of thought, is a truth generally admitted."
- George Boole, quoted in Iverson's Turing Award Lecture"

apologies again but i find this above statement very irrelevant to the
subject of discussion, irrespective of the efforts taken.

Could this be useful to the article on Garuda Mall?

BBMP has worked hard to give away 15 acres of its land in Koramangala in
bangalore, for free to a dubious company and in the process sacrifice the
welfare of 1600 families. read my article below.

What are the kinds of threats OTRS volunteers get? Just curious.

I am not an OTRS volunteer, but in April 2010 I got a real threat
because of my work on Wikisource.

Gallimard, one of the biggest and most famous French publisher, sent
me a registered letter (yes, here in India!) threatening to sue me if
the texts it claims a copyright on were not quickly deleted. It also
sent the same to the Wikimedia Foundation. The texts were deleted
after a request by Mike Godwin, WMF lawyer. I made a counter-notice
and the texts were undeleted in June 2010. Gallimard found my IRL
address on Facebook, as I have a link to my Facebook profile on my
Wikisource home page.

The deleted texts are copyrighted in France, but not in USA, and not
in India, so there are legally hosted by the WMF in USA, and I am
legally entitled to publish them on Wikisource, as a resident in
India.

In fact, I expected Gallimard to try to sue me in France, which would
not have much real effect on Wikisource, but would be quite annoying
for me if I go back to France. But I never received any news from the
publisher after I sent them a letter saying that they business model
is outdated, and they should find better way to promote French
literature.

Yann

As an editor, and a counter vandal, here is my opinion:
What he did would come under blatant vandalism, as he DID NOT source his
edits, and defamed living people without any base. Had he provided a
reliable source, I might've considered reading it.
