[Wikimediauk-l] Daria Cybulska presents at the Women of the World Festival
Hello everyone, I write to let you know that Daria Cybulska, Wikimedia UK's Events Organiser, presented at the Women of the World Festival in London this past weekend. She spoke about why it's important that women engage with Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. She did an excellent job and has written a blog post about the event. It can be seen at http://blog.wikimedia.org.uk/2013/03/wikimedia-uk-and-the-women-of-the-world-festival/ I'd also suggest taking a look at her Prezi herehttp://prezi.com/6g2e5wkwfsbh/understanding-wikipedia-what-is-it-and-how-to-join-in/ Thanks and regards, Stevie -- Stevie Benton Communications Organiser Wikimedia UK+44 (0) 20 7065 0993 / +44 (0) 7803 505 173 @StevieBenton Wikimedia UK is a Company Limited by Guarantee registered in England and Wales, Registered No. 6741827. That's a super piece of outreach and Daria deserves all our congratulations for the success of the work she's doing. It's worth pointing out that the Southbank Centre also has a short article on Daria in their Artists and Speakers section at http://wow.southbankcentre.co.uk/artists/daria-cybulska/ - I reckon that a few more of those and she'll be notable enough for her own Wikipedia article! -- Rexx On 12 March 2013 16:32, Stevie Benton stevie.ben...@wikimedia.org.ukwrote: Hello everyone, I write to let you know that Daria Cybulska, Wikimedia UK's Events Organiser, presented at the Women of the World Festival in London this past weekend. [Wikimediauk-l] Wikimedians: your Conference Committee needs YOU!
Please forgive my pathetic imitation of Kitchener! Wikimedia UK's Conference Committee (that is, the committee responsible for the annual conference and, nominally, the Wikimania bid) is in need of volunteers. In particular, we need people to help with putting together the programme for the annual conference at the moment. If you are interested, please drop me a line at this address. While I'm here, it's a good excuse to remind you that we are still accepting talk submissions for said annual conference: https://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiConference_UK_2013/Talk_submissions Best, -- Harry Mitchell, Wikimedia UK Conference Committee Tel: +44 (0) 24 7698 0977 Mob: +44 (0) 7585 357 416 Skype: harry_j_mitchell ___ Wikimedia UK mailing list wikimediau...@wikimedia.org http://mail.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediauk-l WMUK: http://uk.wikimedia.org

It is important for everyone concerned, particularly the charity, that we get this right. You chose to involve lawyers? Thats interesting. Secondly - and this scares anyone who understands such things, which doesn't include me - there is a issue concerning a possible patent troll that needs to be resolved as it could be a risk to the charity. The concerns arising here are complicated - it's possible that Saad may be able to say more when he gets a chance - and they do need to be properly examined. To complete the transfer before doing this I believe would be negligent. In the EU under UK loser pays law? Thats novel. The technical issues have been addressed so we are ready to move forwards on that side of things. There is an concern that has been raised about whether the use and storage of information to produce the statistics at http://qrpedia.org/stats.php is fully compliant with EU privacy legislation. We're seeking advice on whether this is an issue that requires a change in the current use of data, but it is expected that agreeing a privacy policy and updating our data registration will be enough. Our technical consultants are confident they can implement whatever is needed, if required. So just turn it off. Worrying about such things is a matter for a later date. So two questionable reasons (getting a lawyer involved in a low value transfer and a problem that can be delt with by switching a non critical system off) and one that may be valid but certainly unusual. -- geni ___ Wikimedia UK mailing list wikimediau...@wikimedia.org http://mail.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediauk-l WMUK: http://uk.wikimedia.org
Re: [Wikimediauk-l] when qrpedia and qrwp domains will be transferred?
Geni; it *is* frustrating that the domains have not been transferred, let alone the hosting. However, it's not surprising that the charity is taking its time over some of these issues given recent events. I encourage you to join one of the Tech Committee meetings because you'd get a much better feel for the situation than via email. Or even one of the tech contractor update meetings (which I presume have much the same openness as board meetings, or at least hope so!), where I am sure you would be welcome. I have made the same point as yourself r.e. the patent issue; but unless I am much mistaken neither of us are lawyers, so it is best to take both of our views with a pinch of salt :D Tom (speaking for myself, not in my role as a tech contractor) On 12 March 2013 20:26, geni geni...@gmail.com wrote: On 11 March 2013 15:46, rexx r...@blueyonder.co.uk wrote: Firstly, holding our hands up here, we have been relying on pro-bono legal advice to do most of the work in getting the full arrangements in place.
