[Wikitech-l] TemplateStyles coming to a wiki near you

2017-07-17 Thread Gergo Tisza
Hi all,

we'll enable TemplateStyles [1][2] tomorrow on mediawiki.org,
wikitech.wikimedia.org and some test wikis. (Today for those of you in UTC
or later time zones.)

TemplateStyles allows editors to add complex CSS to templates with the help
of a tag. This makes template maintenance easier, lowers
the barrier of access (previously you had to be an admin to be able to add
new CSS) and empowers editors to create more user-, mobile- and
print-friendly templates.

For plans for rolling it out to content wikis see T168808 [3].

Sorry, not sure what you mean, can you link to any documentation we can
maybe clarify? As the measure two metrics "Unique Devices" and "Pageviews"
is completely different.

[Wikitech-l] More Detailed Browser Stats for Desktop Sites

2017-07-17 Thread Nuria Ruiz
Hello:

Please take a look at the new browser report with more detailed desktop
site data (all wikimedia projects agreggated):

https://analytics.wikimedia.org/dashboards/browsers/#desktop-site-by-browser

Some highlights:

* Data is very stable over the last year

* Chrome in the lead with 45% of traffic, closely followed by IE (18%) and
FF (13%)

* The bulk of IE traffic is IE11 and IE7

* Edge shows up with 4% slowly catching up to Safari (5%)

* This data is still subject to fluctuations due to bot traffic not
identified as such. We will be working on this next year.

Thanks,

Nuria

As I mentioned pageview counting has not changed for more than 2 years.

... not sure what you are referring to, can you be more specific? We
have not changed the way we measure pageviews for 2 years

There are improvements/fixes continously done to the system and those get
documented here:

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Page_view#Change_log

FYI, we have opened a ticket for this issue:
https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T170845

Without looking at it in detail there are many possible causes: removal of
"bad" pageviews (like requests for banners) or drop of traffic due to
having less bots.

Re: [Wikitech-l] Tidy will be replaced by RemexHTML on Wikimedia wikis latest by June 2018

2017-07-17 Thread Subramanya Sastry

Hi Nico,

If you don't mind, let us move this more bug/feature-specific discussion
to Phabricator by filing bugs where appropriate. Or, we can have
discussions on-wiki at
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help_talk:Extension:Linter. I'll copy
your query to the talk page there and we can discuss it there.

Subbu.

Look for this in the template response.

|"templateInfo": { "multiPartTemplateBlock": true }|

Thanks ! I have updated WPCleaner to display the information about the
template (template name or multiple templates).

I've started adding a detection in WPCleaner (error #532) for the
missing-end-tag error reported by Linter (I'm starting with easy ones).

Is it normal that errrors inside a gallery tag are reported as being an
error in a "multiPartTemplateBlock" while it's directly inside the page
wikitext ?
Examples on frwiki : Manali
,
Zillis-Reischen
