I've had a buy in all day at $7 hoping to catch a quick drop. Might change
that to $8 and see if it gets filled.

Agreed that I would find it surprising for UBNT to stay at these low numbers

Re: [WISPA] Datamatic Mosaic 900Mhz smart water meter

2012-08-10 Thread chris cooper
We worked with Datamatic in 2006 when they began deploying smart meters
locally. One high density neighborhood where they deployed the meters
was directly under one of our 900Mhz sites. The site is very high so we
know we look down on every meter they have. We tested with the vendor
and we did not interfere with them and they didn't cause us any problems
either. If I recall, the unit itself broadcasts at .5 db.

Sean,

Good luck. I think any of the smart meters running on 900mhz will
interfere with your network if you are running 900mhz. We had only a
couple of handfuls of customers on 900mhz when our electric company
installed their smart meters. They run all the time and blast their
signal. We just couldn't compete. Eventhough we contacted them , we have
to move our 900mhz customers back to 2.4 or uninstall them if the 2.4
signal wasn't good enough.

Don't take their word for it. Ask to test with them, so you don't
interfere with each other.

Re: [WISPA] Ubiquity ... Stock Price .. News ...

2012-08-10 Thread Bret Clark
The stock is tanking because its current-quarter revenue outlook came
29% to 37% below Wall Street estimates which is going to pressure
revenue into future quarters. Stock prices are based on future earnings
and not earnings of today which is why even though the company meet
expectations investors are concerned that future revenue will support
the stock value it was at before the announcement.

Re: [WISPA] Ubiquity ... Stock Price .. News ...

2012-08-10 Thread Greg Ihnen
I think UBNT approach is very smart - sell the best product they can make as
inexpensively as they can. But because it's built in China and UBNT doesn't
have the strength of say an Apple Computer to control shenanigans there's a
chance they're basically just handing their inner most secrets and details over
to the competition, not meaning existing competitors in the market but rather a
more nebulous competition, some individual or company which will see an
opportunity to start selling a similar product or even worse, selling a
counterfeit version of the exact same product.

All companies are in a race to the bottom for price. UBNT is well positioned to
do well in that race.

What I fear most will happen is that UBNT will over-diversify and spread
themselves too thin. But since everything they've came out with so far is
pretty kick-ass I think they'll do well. Though the handwriting will be on the
wall when we start seeing UBNT gear with "As Seen on TV!" on the package.

Maybe there will be a bounce.

There was a lot of shares short 46% and either the shorts will have to
buy back to cover and take profits, or

they did and cushioned the sell off.

[WISPA] Datamatic Mosaic 900Mhz smart water meter

2012-08-10 Thread Sean Heskett
Hi Gang,

Does anyone have any experience with the Datamatic Mosaic 900Mhz smart
water meter in their coverage area?

Our city is planning on installing such a system and the company
(Datamatic) is claiming they have never interfered with a WISP and
they have never received interference from a WISP.

If you have any experience I would greatly appreciate your input.

Thanks,

Hi Greg

in some cases, not saying this is the case, it can happen that the more
success has a product the faster the company will be out of the market.

This can happen in situations where the company has a product that is
destroying the market for everybody, itself too. So if a "market killer"
(i.e. a product/service that kills the market) has an unexpected success
it can also mean the end of the company.

I will do an example: let's say that for the nature of the market, the
number of sold items will be 1 million. All companies are selling at
100$ then one company steps in and sells at 10$. The market goes from
100millions to 10 millions so basically if your company can survive with
only 10 millions this year that will mean it's nice, but what about next
year? If the product is very good and there is no new cool feature next
year in the next product, nobody will buy it and next year the market
will be around zero. No margin to survive next year in this market

Well I hope that is not the case for UBNT let's wait and see :)

just my 2 Euro cents

In Asia people are actually using TD-LTE, but 2.3 is more usual than

USF is a Tax on the provider, the provider has the choice to recover it
from it's subscribers or not.
Google could have taken the position that they will pay the tax not
recover it from their subscribers.

Folks who are an 'interconnected' voip provider are subject to Telecom
Taxes are ( I am over simplifying it ).
i.e. Voip Communication from PC to PC is not subject to Telecom Taxes...
if they were to provide direct calling from Phone to PC or PC to Phone
(not talking about pc to an application on the phone).
then they would be subject to telecom regulations as far as fees and
taxes go.

Navini gear had an incredibly good indoor reach, either CDMA or WiMAX.
Too bad that Cisco bought them and then shut the product line down.

Today, I would look at PureWave http://www.pwnets.com/ (being aware the WiMAX
CPEs won't be there to buy in the long run) and TD-LTE solutions (may cost more
now, but will live longer). I've exited the FWA business before I could test
those so can't provide feedback.

Google could have taken the position that they will pay the tax not

Folks who are an 'interconnected' voip provider are subject to Telecom

i.e. Voip Communication from PC to PC is not subject to Telecom Taxes...
if they were to provide direct calling from Phone to PC or PC to Phone

then they would be subject to telecom regulations as far as fees and

Navini gear had an incredibly good indoor reach, either CDMA or WiMAX.
Too bad that Cisco bought them and then shut the product line down.

Today, I would look at PureWave http://www.pwnets.com/ (being aware
the WiMAX CPEs won't be there to buy in the long run) and TD-LTE
solutions (may cost more now, but will live longer). I've exited the
FWA business before I could test those so can't provide feedback.

Just had a question pop into my head last night after a long day of
working on VoIP tax and fee paperwork.

How does Google Voice not have to charge such fees as USF, telcom
recovery, etc? Aren't they providing telephone "lines" just like we
are, even if they may terminate in a different device (a PC or a cell
phone) than us (an ATA or handset)? Does Skype charge those fees?

Does anybody remember Nortel Networks bottoming at 49 cents/share back in
Oct of...2002? Rose to $8.50 then they imploded later.

I got in on that but if you don't sell you simply have 'unrealized gains'.

Surely UBNT has patents and can go after those who infringe.

The lower the price, the more shares they can buy back with the $100M
repurchase. That will also flush out some of the whiny investors who don’t

Re: [WISPA] Ubiquity ... Stock Price .. News ...

2012-08-10 Thread Brad Belton

their earnings, warn about the effects of counterfeited product and announce
they intend to take this opportunity to buy back $100M worth of shares.

Eh. I plan to reinvest heavily. The CEO is planning to purchase a ton of stock.

Agreed. I almost hit that $9ish range a week or so ago, but my order was just
a bit too late. My stake in UBNT is very small, but have been averaging down

more shares tomorrow if the price is right!

Vegas or the stock market…almost the same entertainment “rush”…lol

If you still have faith in the company, now is a good time to buy down your
cost basis.
