 Daniel,
I am heading up the WECAT response for this. Please send
me an email to bwebs...@wirelessmapping.com. Gino Villarini is a large
WISP on the island who has requested help. The problem is logistics right
now. His replacement equipment is still stateside and we are working on
ways to get it to him. He has asked that I coordinate the manpower
resources and response. There are no scheduled commercial flights to the
island yet. Until he gets the equipment there,. Having people show up is
not prudent. He is working on a detailed manpower list for me once that
 equipment hits the island.

 Thank You,

Back in 2005 Mac Dearman had organized some relief for the gulf coast
after Hurricane Katrina -- I believe it was under an organization called
RadioResponse, which I'm not finding much on now.

I spent several weeks with them in Mississippi helping set up phones,
communications, and computers for several of the shelters and helping some
of the local WISPs get back on their feet.

Does anyone know of anything similar for Puerto Rico? I don't have much
for resources but do have an authorized climber certification and a strong
electrical, mechanical, network, and WISP background that I'm sure could
benefit any similar effort if there is one.

 Thanks,

To the extent any WISPA member needs relief from FCC rules in an emergency
situation (e.g., an STA to operate at variance from FCC licenses), that is
something that we are prepared to do. But, that need is not known right now.
I understand Gino is in contact with the feds on the ground in PR, and Mike
Meluskey has reported that he is working with them in USVI. Brian Webster and
I are communicating about equipment delivery, but I'm not sure if that is a
FEMA/DHS issue or not. There is equipment stateside for Gino, we just need to
get it there. I know Brian is working hard on that, and I've tried as well.

Hi Guys,

Broadband VI is in a similar predicament as Gino. We had double the

We are taking advantage of private relief aircraft for our critical

Since Aeronet is critical infrastructure, FEMA and DHS have people

I fail to understand why the Navy CBs haven't been deployed. They are
trained and equipped for just such a project. US citizens are now
probably dying while the emperor fiddles. WIPS don't get the
recognition we deserve as service providers, we need laws that stop the
big companies from trampling over us and profiteering from our labor.

Hi Guys,

Broadband VI is in a similar predicament as Gino. We had double

We are taking advantage of private relief aircraft for our

Since Aeronet is critical infrastructure, FEMA and DHS have people

have them ship down the gear he needs.

Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens.

The Internet is "critical infrastructure".

Is there anything that WISPA can do in
Washington D.C. to "remind" the FCC, FEMA and DHS of these facts
and light a fire under their butts?

Hi Guys,
Broadband VI is in a similar predicament as
Gino.  We had double the pleasure, Irma for St. Thomas and
St. John, Maria for St. Croix.
We are taking advantage of private relief
  aircraft for our critical material.

Since Aeronet is critical infrastructure, FEMA
and DHS have people dedicated to helping Telcos.  Gino
needs to find these people and have them ship down the
  gear he needs.

  Daniel,

      I am heading
up the WECAT response for this. Please send
me an email to bwebs...@wirelessmapping.com.
Gino Villarini is a large WISP on the island
who has requested help. The problem is
logistics right now. His replacement
equipment is still stateside and we are
working on ways to get it to him. He has
asked that I coordinate the manpower
resources and response. There are no
scheduled commercial flights to the island
yet. Until he gets the equipment there,.
Having people show up is not prudent. He is
working on a detailed manpower list for me
once that equipment hits the island.

Re: [WISPA] POE splitter for ToughSwitch

2017-09-29 Thread Clay Stewart
Rick, on your issue, the ToughSwitch is a UBNT failed product in my
opinion. They do not hold up with ESDs or worse, and have issues with Flow
Control. No company has a perfect line of products, there is always going
to be one need improvement here and there, or dropped. The EdgePoints are
EdgeSwitch or EdgeRouter based. We use the 16 port EdgeSwitched based one.
We also use quite a bit of Netonixs where we drop lines down to the base of
towers. But the EdgePoints allow an easy solution for running fiber up to
the top and removing ESD potential while having a clean outdoor mount with
low wind load for any size tower.

Anyone using a good splitter for powering the TSPOE?

How long have you had the EdgePoint in service? We had deployed a number
of Ubiquiti routers but ended up pulling them all out. Once they were in
service a little over a year we had MANY ghost issues crop up with them.
Our latency went down and stability went up after removing them.
