Luis- We have experimented with OpenDNS (free) which does an OK job of content blocking on one of the Muni Mesh systems, but not used it in production. Not even sure if you can sell it and it is pretty easily defeated. It is probably something you could offer for free, though. Set setup a linux box with squid and dansguardian on it. Customers can use it at no cost by changing their proxy settings. Very reliable, almost no support required compared to installable software. Just another reason for some customers to keep service with us. Open DNS was what I was thinking as well. You could just give a link to it on your website then it's not you problem but then again no profit either. If you set something up make sure you have an policy that states its not your job to be 100% and that the dark side of the web is always working to get around whatever you put on there to stop it. Untangle, Astaro (free 10 user - 10 IP address). Astaro is professional grade and really nice but it can be hard saying under the 10 IP limit if you have lots of network enabled devices. Untangle is more consumer grade with a cartoon like interface but it's still pretty cool. Yeah, I forgot to mention OpenDNS but you have to set up your router to block or redirect access to other DNS services. Otherwise they'll just go right around it. Another thing about OpenDNS is you will have a record of what bad sites were attempted, but you can't tell which computer because it's on the other side of the NAT. That works good for young kids to keep them from bumping into bad stuff, but if your kids are older and more determined to get to what you're trying to block then a solution they don't have physical access to it mandatory. I currently use SonicWall's Content Filter for my entire network. (No discussion about whether that is good or bad, please. It is bringing me cutomers.) Problem is cost. I can not afford $1000/yr for the subscription. Anyone know of a content filter that is relativly inexpensive and works?
