You might want to go with 3/4 ton chassis in the future to improve the
ground clearance. You could also get Skid plates to protect the pan
and transmission from hazards.

Yeah, if the oil light is on because the oil pump is sucking air the pressure
has already dropped so low that you're probably starting to hurt your bearings.

Re: [WISPA] Do yourself a favor

2010-03-05 Thread MDK
LOL, so many bashes into the ground, rocks, snow, ice, etc from off-road and
jeep trail ventures, on the oil pan of my service van, that I get no more than
2 tanks of gas between oil fill-ups.

no, not broken, but it leaks all around the perimeter, and even a new gasket
won't stop the leaks. Yes, this is pan #2, and all the local wrecking yards
are out of oil pans

Tankful of gas on this van is 250 miles (11 gallons), and it takes 1-2 quarts
every time I put oil in it - so I get somewhere in the 200 - 300 mi to a quart.
Amazing how much drips that is on the ground. I now recognize the oil light
flash on a hard turn that means I'm low.

But sorry about the engine in your truck. Arreolas Automotive generally has
the best prices on used engines. Don't trash the rig for a bad motor,
replace it.I and my business partner were both mechanics in our previous
life. We do that kind of stuff all the time

I just want to share this with you, right now when you finish reading
this put down the keyboard, walk outside and check the oil levels in all
of your fleet. I kept threatening to get a truck serviced and kept
procrastinating, today it ran out of oil and froze up. Perfectly good
truck - gone. So you've read enough, now go do it, you'll thank
yourself later.

Isn't that what the little 10min Lube sticker in the upper left hand corner
of your windshield is for?

There is a GPS service a guy in Idaho uses that notifys you when
you've hit the mile mark (depending on your type of truck/oil).

But I'm low tech like you, the sticker :)
