I've found that silicon has something in it that corrodes connections.
especially those in rf connectors. I think it's amonia or something like
it. Anyway, I only use silicon to seal the building penetration these days.

You can also fill the end around the o-rings with silicon to eliminate any
place for water to pool if they happen to be mounted vertically.

I always put in 3 or 4 feet of extra cat 5 at the radio end :-P.

That's the same connector as sb uses. They are nice but make sure they
sit

horrizontal as water will eventually leak past the o-rings etc.

2006-01-24 Thread Jason Wallace
Uncured silicone contains acetic acid (cheap formulations may contain
some after curing) and might corrode reactive metals. I THINK that the
silicones that have a low odor also have lower acetic acid content.
BTW, acetic acid is what gives vinegar its punch.

Yes they work well.

ONly one thing... The Bulkhead Nut looks identicle
to the Nut for the other type of Ethernet connectors that are standard for
Rootennas. (The ones the cable just goes through and rubbers around it.). They
are NOT the same NUT! IF you get the NUTs confused, it strips, and when you go
to turn tighted the Bulk head nut, it slips and rotates. When you use the
correct NUT, it workds well and is snug.

Kudos to Pac Wireless. I imagine we have used at least 30 of them in the last

I agree with Justin, this is not a splice. All our attempts at splicing
Ethernet outdoors has resulted in another service call 3-6 months down the
road and a new run of Ethernet. Its cheaper to run new cable and be done
with it than to splice and pray. Nothing worse than to have disgruntled
customers over sloppy work. If you do splice, make sure you use a heavy
duty shrink tube w/glue around a good tape job.

This is not an actual splice. It's a bulkhead connector. Save yourself
trouble and just re-run the cable. You will have a much better life, trust
me on this one.

To tell you the truth I have been looking at those for months now and
couldnt decide if it was an actual splicer (which I could use a few
of) or something you add to an outdoor enclosure for a pass-thru. (of
which I could use a few)

If someone figures it out - - please post :-)

Re: [WISPA] Outdoor Ethernet Splice

2006-01-23 Thread Mark Nash
Thanks, I just ordered one. I'll check it out. If it can be weatherproofed
and isn't too difficult to deal with it may solve my problem of having
enough cable as I replace the EtherAnt-Turbo's.

I haven't used these, but someone on one of these lists pointed them
out a while back.

I am going to order some in one of these days. They look good to me.

You can also fill the end around the o-rings with silicon to eliminate any
place for water to pool if they happen to be mounted vertically.

I always put in 3 or 4 feet of extra cat 5 at the radio end :-P.

That's the same connector as sb uses. They are nice but make sure they sit
horrizontal as water will eventually leak past the o-rings etc.
