[WISPA] snowbird - seasonal packages & pricing

2017-10-06 Thread Lori Collins, SonicNet
Hello all. I'm a bit late to this conversation as I was out of office last
week, but we provide service in an area with a very large number of second
lake homes.

You can check our packages and pricing structure on our web site Services
page (link below), but the general gist is we set specific on/off dates to
keep things reasonable on our end. Customers can "add on" service during
the off season, and they will pay the regular monthly rate for their level
of service.

We bill annually for summer-only service, also to keep things simple, and
frankly if they can afford a second home, they can afford an annual
payment.

We upcharge on the "per-month" fee since we are buying our bandwidth,
maintaining our network, etc., all year round, so if they want a shorter
service period, they will pay a bit more per month. Sometimes they
question this, and generally when I explain the rationale they get it. I
always say it's better than paying year round for something you aren't
using.

And finally, we do not offer a lower-speed option during the off season.
If a customer has remote equipment that they need access to year round,
they must get our service year round, but they can turn it down to our
lowest-level package since that works just fine with remote access.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer offline. This is a
topic for which we've spent a great deal of time analyzing the data and
talking with customers about what would work for them (and us). About 17%
of our customers are seasonal, so it's a big number.

I just offer a discount commensurate to the amount of time a year they're gone
and done. I donn't shut it off or anything. Too much work to keep track of.

For those of you who offer this service, how are your packages
structured? I can see 2 packages, one where the internet is actually
not available at all and one where there is a minimal connection for
home monitoring. I am interested in minimum terms of full package
pricing and if you charge a minimum for the inactive period.

Thanks in advance

2017-09-26 Thread Josh Luthman
With Powercode we take off the "montly internet service" which enables them
to have Internet, speed rating, etc and then add a "monthly service" which
does all the normal billing stuff but doesn't add any Internet speed
plan/allow them to get online.

Either its on or not.. they can change plans, but that’s about it. I would
not offer a off package, cause then you are not getting anything. I understand
the reason, but that is what DSL or cable would do, its either a package or its
off. And its only off it you are out of term.
