RE: [WSG] IE8 news
I also found IE8 to be very slow, not so much typing in it but rollover effects on links, even small things like underline text when the mouse goes over it, also going from one page to another seemed slow. I even managed to crash it when I went to a windows sharepoint site. I got it just yesterday and tried it. While it may pass the Acid2 test flawlessly (and only be a beta) it takes up /masses/ of memory. My computer isn't exactly a dinosaur but it still paused whilst trying to type using IE8. How powerful a computer is recommended anyway? However considering the problems with IE in the past I'd say I can live with that. [WSG] Navigation menu problem
Hi All, Im having a problem getting a menu to look right in IE6, it can be found at http://darkvirus.homeip.net/~darkness/h2/new/ IE7 and FF seem fine but IE6 seems to put a margin under each link and I cant seem to get rid of it (IE8 only seem to change the background colour when the mouse is over the text or border which I put on earlier). To save you looking through the source the relevant css is #nav { float: left; width: 195px; margin: 0 0 10px 0; text-align: center; } #nav ul { list-style-type: none; padding: 0; margin: 10px auto; background: #f2edf6; width: 175px; border: 1px solid #7d50a6; text-align: left; } #nav li { font-size: 13px; padding: 0; margin: 0; } #nav li a { display: block; padding: 5px; text-decoration: none; font-weight: bold; color: #7d50a6; background: #f2edf6; margin: 0; } #nav li a:hover { text-decoration: underline; background: #dccce9; } PS. Any general comments or recommendations on the site are greatly welcome. [WSG] Positioning Image problems
I have to problems at the moment which have me stumped, both to do with positioning images. The first is at http://www.carrollwaterservices.co.uk the kinetico reinventing water image is fine when the site is initially loaded but when he goes to another page and then comes back to it not all the image is displayed and he has to refresh the page to get it all, this is working fine in FF but for some reason IE some of the image is missing. Can anyone see why this is happening as it has me stumped. The second problem is at http://www.kevinarrowsmith.co.uk/wol/greenacre.php the image to the right of the text is positioned fine in 1024*768 and higher but in 800*600 then space for the image is left but the image itself covers half the text, does anyone know why this is happening. Thanks for any help
[WSG] Image rollovers
Hi guys Im creating a site which will be using rollovers but what is the best way to create the rollovers, use _javascript_ or use CSS to control them. I have used _javascript_ at the moment but I seem to be having some problems with firefox and images, firefox seems to put some kind of border or magin on one side of the image, the website is at http://darkvirus.homeip.net/~darkness/epixel/ if you want to see what I mean, the site works fine in IE though although when I put the header img in as an img rather than a background both browsers put some kind or border below the image.
RE: [WSG] Submenus anyone?
Hi, I cant remember where I got it from but I use a xhtml and css based menu system, an example can be found at http://www.kevinarrowsmith.co.uk/menu/menu.htm It validates to xhtml1.1 and the css validates too, the only thing I did have to do was to include the javascript just to get it to work in IE, it works fine without the javascript in most other browsers. The only problem I did have was aligning it all, I have also had a horizontal menu bar working, if you want I can find an example Kevin -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Stevio Sent: 02 September 2005 20:37 To: Web Standards Group Subject: [WSG] Submenus anyone? Has anyone got any good examples of submenus that work good and are compliant with XHTML 1.0 strict? I've been using Project 7 menus but I'm finding they are just too difficult to sort out all the kinks, plus there has always been the problem that if you move the mouse fast enough they don't always close. I figure there must be better working menus than that. I usually have my links change background and foreground colour, so would like that, but would like the link to stay changed colours while the mouse is hovering over the submenu that has appeared, and then to go back to normal when I mouse off the submenu and it vanishes. RE: [WSG] Submenus anyone?
I found it on a site I am currently building for someone, the alignment isn't 100% in my opinion but it isn't far off but is work in progress.
