2018-05-02 Thread Neil Zampella

Reinhard,

you have the "Enable VHF/UHF/Microwave" features checked in the GENERAL
tab of the settings, then have the "NA VHF Contect" box checked on the
main program page.

Then you're trying to make contacts on the 20 meter HF band.

Uncheck those settings, then you should see a proper auto sequence.

Hi Ray,

Probably you should not have selected "Settings -> Enable
VHF/UHF/Microwave features", since you are operating on an HF band.

You should not select "NA VHF Contest", since you are not operating in a
North American VHF contest.

Re: [wsjt-devel] using freqcal on a single VHF beacon

2018-05-02 Thread Joe Taylor

Hi Peter,

For completeness, this message is an addendum to the one sent a few
minutes ago.

You asked whether the variance in measured frequency offsets might be
too high. As you point out, it goes from -126 to -131 Hz across the 30
second period.

In your file fmt.all the variation appears to be nearly monotonic,
drifting upward from roughly -131 to -126 Hz over the 30 s interval. If
your radio was already warmed up, I'd guess that this change was a
result of propagation effects rather than any drift in the radio.

For reliable calibration of your radio you should try to make sure that
the measured offset stays close to -129 Hz over long periods of time --
hours, even. Let the calibration procedure run for a while, and then
examine the data in fmt.all.

Re: [wsjt-devel] using freqcal on a single VHF beacon

2018-05-02 Thread Joe Taylor

Hi Peter,

The semi-automated calibration procedure assumes that you will use
calibration signals on at least two different frequencies.

You have used just one, at 144.450 MHz. Nevertheless, I think you can
do a good job of calibration with your existing data, using "by hand"
the individual tools is the calibration toolkit.

Copy your file fmt.all into the "bin" directory in your WSJT-X
installation directory. Then open a command-prompt window, cd to that
directory, and run program "fmtave" the file fmt.all. I get the
following result:

C:\WSJT\wsjtx1.9.0\bin>fmtave fmt.all
Freq DFCAL N rmsUTC Call
   (kHz)(Hz)? (Hz)

 144.450 -129.118 1 221.63 21:34:34

The somewhat cryptic output says that your dial is off by -129.118 Hz at
144.45 MHz, a fractional error of -129.118/144.450 = -0.894 ppm (parts
per million). This number is the constant "B" defined in the graph
displayed in Section 13.1 of the WSJT-X User Guide:

http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjtx-doc/wsjtx-main-1.9.0-rc4.html#_frequency_calibration
 It's the value that

If you set your 2-meter dial frequency low by 129 Hz, you'll be on
frequency.

If you're using CAT control in WSJT-X, go to Settings -> Frequencies and
enter -0.894 for "Slope". You can safely use 0.0 for "Intercept", which
should be close enough. Then you should be good to go. :-)

Re: [wsjt-devel] Possible error 1.90rc4 Mac

2018-05-02 Thread Bill Somerville

HI George and Steve,

I had a quick look at this issue a few days ago, I have not had time to
address it fully but it is a logic error related to DXpedition mode code
that tries to truncate a file that has not been opened, that causes a
permission issue as the file location is not set correctly. This happens
when nagain is set in decoder.f90, that happens when a "freeze" decode
at the cursor frequency is invoked. I believe that normal FT8 mode
should not be on the path that accesses this file at all.

Hi George -

Thanks for the report. I think that the problem is being caused by a
debug write statement that is being used for Fox/Hound debugging
purposes --- it will be easy to fix and we will do that before the GA
release. However, I should note that the problem is occurring because
a double-click on the waterfall invokes the “click to decode”
function, and initiates a call to the decoder with the deepest decode
settings.

If you are wanting to move the Tx and Rx frequencies, then a
command-single click should do that without calling the decoder.

It's whatever path you have in Settings/Audio -- the "Save Directory".If it
doesn't exist just create it.

1. Use the mouse to grasp the right edge of the text window. You can
set its width as you wish.

2. Many users prefer to create and use entries on the Configurations
menu for switching between modes. Instructions can be found in Section
10.1.3 in the WSJT-X User Guide:

http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjtx-doc/wsjtx-main-1.9.0-rc4.html#MENUS
Then, you can have the screen configured as you like it for each
operating mode.
