[wsjt-devel] Version 2.0 issues with JT65

2018-12-14 Thread Russ
I'm having a lot of problems using JT65 for EME. The right hand pane,
Average Decodes, seems to have a mind of it's own. For instance, earlier I
was trying to work N5TM and I did copy two of his sequences. Now, an hour
later I am just sitting here watching the screen and suddenly in the average
pane a new message from him pops up. It has the same text as the previous
decide but it has the current time and the dB, Dt, and frequency vary. As I
watched for 15 minutes that same message popped up 8 times. There are no
signals showing in the waterfall and I am positive that he is no longer
transmitting to me - also there is nothing showing in the right hand pane,
Singe Period Decodes.

That is one manifestation of the problem. Another is somewhat similar.
About 3 days ago I decoded but did not work a station in France. Since then
that same decode pops up randomly in the average window even though I am
currently working someone else. Not only is he not transmitting to me, and
the moon is not up there, but it has been 3 days and WSJT-x has been shut
down and restarted several times and has been used on MSK144 extensively for
Geminids meteor activity. Yet when I switch back to JT65 it still remembers
and displays that old decode !

Another thing that happens is that sometimes when I get a single period
decode of a station that I am working, it will immediately appear twice in
the average window.

I don't know if anyone else has seen that problem, but I cannot figure out
any way that it could be my setup. Windows 10 Pro.

One more thing. It is most disconcerting when in the middle of an EME
contact, to discover that you are no longer transmitting. I think the time
out timer should be able to be disabled when in JT65. Or removed - like in
older versions of WSJT.

While sitting here typing this message my average decodes pane has
completely filled with red messages from N5TM: 0028 -30 -3.2 201 #* K2TXB
N5TM EL29 ? d20

What's up?

Thanks, Russ K2TXB

[wsjt-devel] Worked before status?

2018-12-14 Thread L Barley
I'm having a problem with the "worked before status" not changing the color
of the station calling CQ after I complete a QSO.

I'm using v2.0 on Windows 10.

I've uninstalled all the versions that I had on the machine (1.8, 1.9.1,
2.0.rc5, and 2.0). Then I re-installed v2.0, but when I opened it up all
the preferences in the settings were the same as before I "removed" v2.0...?

Anyway, I've rebooted, re-installed, and saved the preferences with the
worked before "box" checked and un-checked several times and I still can't
get the color to change after I complete a QSO. I've re-scanned the ADIF
file several times too and no luck...

Any thoughts? Am I just missing something?

Re: [wsjt-devel] TX function lost, then have Task Manager problem

2018-12-14 Thread Bill
I have also reported this problem several times but have never received any
responses as to why this is happening. This is not windows specific since
it happens to me on both Mac and PC. It also isn't related to version
number since it happens with the older 1.9.1 and newer 2.0 versions. It
happens to me with a radio (FT991A) with a built in sound card and also a
radio (FT1000MP) using an external MicroHamUSB III interface. The only
thing that seems to apply is that it usually happens when I change my
transmit frequency slot. The transmitter keys but no audio. This is fixed
by immediately hitting halt tx then going back to enable. This isn't a very
common occurrence but it does happen to me at least several time a week, of
course especially when I am trying to work a new dx!

I agree this phenomenon has been with me for a long time now, stopping TX and
restarting resumes the audio. No one has provided a reason or fix. It does not
seem to follow any particular pattern that I have been able to pin down.73

I run a FLEX 6600 and I see it too.  This problem has been around for a while;
it is not due to the WSJT protocol change. Since the transmitter engages we
know that the transmit command is getting through the CAT system to the radio.
I?m not aware of any evidence of a problem like this occurring in other modes,
SSB for instance.  That suggests that DAX is not getting the signal through to
the radio.  It would be interesting to learn if RTTY and PSK users ever see an
error like this.  I?ve never heard of one.

If all of that is true (we?re guessing now) then the WSJT/DAX channel interface
looks suspicious.  Like Al, I?ve seen the stuck WSJT and have had to kill them
off by hand.  I haven?t noticed the CPU spinning, but I haven?t looked for it.

[wsjt-devel] LOG QSO Power

2018-12-14 Thread Alessandro Gorobey via wsjt-devel

Hi All,

I have seen in last period several messages, also in other forums on
this argument.

It refer to a ADIF (http://www.adif.org) field defined as numeric.

"TX_PWR Number the logging station's power in Watts with a value
greater than 0"

"Number N a sequence of one or more Digits representing a decimal
number, optionally preceded by a minus sign (ASCII code 45) and
optionally including a single decimal point (ASCII code 46) "

WSJT-X accept also unwanted characters.

It is possible (YES) filter the input ?

For example:

20W ---> is invalid
20 > is numeric and valid
2,5 > is numeric but comma separator is not accepted by ADIF
2.5 > OK this ADIF like
500 mw ---> is invalid
0.5W ---> is invalid
0.5 ---> OK this is accepted

Thanks in advance

I also have seen the problem and have come to believe that it related the CAT..
If I use a traditional CAT ( comport) with Kenwood TS480, I do not have this
problem. If is use the Flex interface for CAT this problem returns..
You should also note that the CPU usage for the WSJT task is about 10 times
normal, which might indicate some kind of looping fault in the program.

Every once in a while operating, the TX function stops working. The

to restart the program I get the message that their is another instance
of WSJT-X running and the program won't start. Checking the task
manager under the Running APPS shows no WSJT-X app listed.
However if I look in the Running BACKGROUND tasks, WSJT-X
has been moved from the APPS to the BACKGROUND tasks.
using END TASK there and then I can restart the program and use
the transmitter again. Can't decide if it is a WSJT-X problem or a
FLEX 6700 and DAX problem. but I have tried shutting down and
restarting DAX several times without any success. Of course shutting
down and restarting the 6700 (after the background WSJT-X task is
closed) also fixes the problem. I'm wondering if any of the other
Flex owner see this problem? I have the work around so right now
it is just a nuisance.

I mostly operate on the 6 meter band using FT-8.
Of the many operators on the band last night, I
decoded only two users of the old protocol.
Your, and the developers' efforts are paying off

This morning I ran an instance of WSJT-X v1.9.1 in parallel with WSJT-X

far more activity using the new 77-bit messages. Here are the rough
statistics, given as the ratio of new- to old-style decodes:

For FT8:

17m: 10:1

30m: 6:1
40m 20:1

In V2 there are many more leading spaces meaning most of the country

deliberate, if so why?

Hi Dave,

this offset is not easy to remove without removing the AP decoding
information. We are contemplating removing the AP information and the
DXCC entity name will then appear in line with other CQ/QRZ messages.
There is an extra shift in v2.0.0 due to the maximum message having
increased from 22 to 37 characters.

What do you mean "cat command to both instances"?  I guess you mean both

Yes, you need to start WSJT from a cmd prompt and use the --rig-name argument,
like this:

wsjtx.exe --rig-name band1
wsjtx.exe --rig-name band2

This will create 2 instances of the program. In my case band1 uses the left
audio channel, and band2 uses the right audio channel, corresponding to the
main and sub VFOs on my IC7610.

I have not yet figured out how to get the CAT commands to work with both
instances.

Yes...I guess you have multiple rigs or a Flex?

You can copy the shortcut for WSJT-X on your desktop and modify the target like
this:
C:\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\wsjtx.exe -r rig2
You can call it "rig2" or whatever you'd like (no spaces please).
You will have two separate instances of WSJT-X with two config files and two

retains the very first parameters I entered the first time I ran the

something new in the production 2.0 that I need to change tho I have not
found that after looking for quite some time. The upshot is that I have to
