Oh yeah...forgot John is an IC7300...I did a similar thing with another
operator who had a rigblaster. The same sequence should work for most anybody
since the general idea is the same.

Re: [wsjt-devel] Audio issue(s) with Win10 April 2018 update

2018-05-24 Thread Peter Sumner
Hi Dave,
as the audio in you case is going via a signal link, that might be the
problem. Try setting WSJT-X to send the audio to the local PC speakers and
see if the problem persists for you. Then you will know if its the Signal
link drivers or some thing deeper inside the PC.

I have updated the shack PC here to that release of Win 10 (core I5 and
4GB of ram on 32bit windows) and use two external USB sound cards (Sound
Blaster), the internal sound card plus a direct USB to the IC-7600 via the
ICOM audio driver for 6mx EME... no audio breakups on anything so far and
my PC is pretty busy running WSPR on 144 all day long and 50 MHz EME at the
same time.

Hope you find an answer

2018-05-24 Thread Barry Smith

All I see is that you can delay the install. I'm lucky that I have 2
PCs and I can see what happens with one before I update the other.

I did update the PC that runs WSJT-X and I did have to change the
settings/privacy/microphone to allow use of the microphone - even
though I'm using a device (cat control, audio in and out) that uses
USB.

Windows updates are always a PITA when comes to audio, often to point of reinstalling 3rd party drivers. Redmond thinks the world is only MP3 tunes.--

I had an issue with my weather satellite software (WxtoImg) which
refused to work after to W10 update. I noticed that the HdAudio driver
had been updated so suspected that, but it turned out to be
Settings/Privacy/Microphone (even though I use line in). It was set to
off. Setting it to on, but setting the individual apps listed, to off
(WxtoImg wasn't in the list), cured the problem.

That's one one PC. The other PC, which I run WSJT-X on, hasn't been
updated yet, so don't know whether something similar might apply to
that.

Yeah, I kinda think it was a drivers issue, too. If nothing else, my
experience should be considered a ‘heads-up’ to anyone having a similar issue
in Win10. That option to “revert to a previous version of Windows” in Win10
has a pretty short window of opportunity and why I didn’t spend longer trying
to noodle it out.

Tnx all!

Since the issue stopped when you reverted back to a previous Windows
build, its a Windows issue; probably drivers or the like.

Not much the WSJT-X developers can do about that.

After installing the Win 10 Pro April 2018 update on my Dell laptop on
5/18, all versions of WSJT-X I have (1.8 and 1.9 rc3&) became
unusable.  Decoding became extremely infrequent and erratic, and
transmissions developed a fractional second “hiccup” at approximately
5 second intervals (data and “tune”).  No amount of diddling with the
software, the SignaLink modem or the PC configuration would resolve
it.  Reverting to the previous build of Windows returned all versions
to perfect functionality.

I found that if CPU usage was very high approaching 100% that decoding
failed. So I've started bumping up the priority on WSJT-X to ensure it doesn't
get starved while reading audio.Sounds like you may be experiencing dropouts on
transmitting.Windows can get very busy for a while after an upgrade.
Try making WSJT-X realtime or one notch lower than realtime.
