Re: [wsjt-devel] UTC time in contest log page

2018-12-03 Thread WB5JJJ
Jim:

Today, I went back to my first saved FT8-RU test contest and the Contest
Log compared to my actual HRD LB spot on as did the one from this weekend.
As stated to Bill, my Windows 10 Pro clock is set to display 24hr
(HH:MM:SS) using Windows clock settings, and I use T-Clock to actually
display the clock, in LOCAL 24H TIME, on the right of the Task Bar in LARGE
numbers that I can easily see. I'm set to US Central Standard Time with
automatic DST and the Windows Time Service is disabled. BKT is used to
sync time once an hour and that keeps my DT within +0.3 seconds on
average. I seldom see a negative DT. This is how my computer has been set
for years, even way before FT8. Nothing was changed, but I tried setting
the sync as far back as 6 hours and was still with the current 2.5 second
window. So my computer clock is really stable.

I've had zero problems with RC4 or RC5 except for a couple of the
discovered "bugs" that were fixed in RC5. My color highlights seem to be
working perfectly in RC5 as I've cross checked them with JTA and my HRD LB
on many occasions. All these logging problems are perplexing until it was
realized most were caused by using Tab 2 instead of Tab 1. I have no clue
how anyone knows what is happening with Tab 2 until it prints on the
screen. A very confusing GUI there for sure. My JTA panel only shows
stations that are calling CQ, are new to me on the current band and are
LoTW users in the past year. During the contest, I had as many as 10 (of
my 12 slots) with new stations in them. Typically, it's 3-5. Even with
the highlight fixes due in the GA next week, I'll probably still use JTA as
it's more concise and easier to read at a glance.

WSJTx sent each and every FT8 RU contact to the Contact Log and directly to
HRD LB without dropping any data at all. Everything agrees 100% with no
manual intervention by me. I do edit some European QTH's in HRD LB when
they have their Postal Code in front of their city name since it makes my
LB look kinda funny.

Re: [wsjt-devel] UTC time in contest log page

2018-12-03 Thread Jim Shorney

I would also be interested to find our what is going on here. It seems like
there are in reality two issues? Every computer has the log displaying in 12
hour format, and some computers additionally displaying local time while others
(who live nowhere near the prime meridian) display correct UTC time in 12 hour
format while the PC system clock was set to the local time zone. How is this
possible?

My computer is set for Central Time USA and not UTC. The Contest Log has
always shown the correct UTC since the first RU test.

Hi George,

your change to the regional default in Windows to show times in 24hr
format explains the display in the contest log page. The next release
overrides the system setting and always displays 24hr format with
seconds showing.

I can't explain your log not displaying (erroneously) in local time,
perhaps the time zone setting on your computer is UTC?

Hi Rich,

already fixed for the next release, displayed date and time in the
COntest Log window were in the local time zone and with the PC's
regional display format which in "English (United States)" is 12hr
AM/PM. Underlying data is correctly stored in UTC.

I noticed during the FT8 RU that the log page, although in UTC, is not in

AM/PM format? Almost all Ham logs are in 24 hour format, right?
