One workaround for this is to use WSJT-X's "Fake it" instead of "Rig" for split operation. "Fake it" uses only one VFO, so it doesn't matter what the other VFO's mode is. I own an IC-7300. I tried using OmniRig inside WSJT-X and ran into the same issue. I switched to “Hamlib” and use “Icom IC-7300” in the rig dropdown and have had no more issues.
