I think the colleague will have XQuartz.app in the usual location, and an
X11.app under /Applications/MacPorts, that is at least the case for me.

I'm not convinced that it will be easy to be 100% certain that the same X11
server is launched automatically. In my case I unload the launchd plists that
come with XQuartz and port:xorg-server (and even move them out of the way).
Since I always have X11 running I prefer to launch the server of choice by
hand, from the Dock.

The additional benefit is that my DISPLAY variable is simply set to :0.0
instead of to some complicated formula.

Is it telling that one of their latest ads for the (sic) iPhone apparently saw
a need to underline that it's a phone? :)

More than fair; the actual OS is based on open source, and is open source
itself for a large part.
And to be fair, Apple have given back to the OS community amply.

BTW, what about PureDarwin in all this? Probably of little interest?

Xquartz versus x.org

2020-01-06 Thread Filhol Alain via X11-users
Bonjour,

J’ai une appli basée sur X11 que je suis en train de tester sur Catalina.
Tout marche sauf chez le seul testeur qui a installé à la fois XQuartz 2.11.7
et x.org de Macports.
Chez lui :
which Xquartz
/opt/local/bin/Xquartz
Chez moi
 which XQuartz
/opt/X11/bin/XQuartz

/Applications/Utilities/XQuartz.app <— oui
/Application/Darwin/XQuartz.app<— ou équivalent
3- Si oui, je suppose dans le xterm de chacun, un ./MonBinaireX11 sa utilise
automatiquement soit /opt/X11 soit /opt/local
Correct ?

Actuellement, si mon collègue double-clique un binaire nécessitant X11, il
obtient une liste de warnings de ce type :
Warning:
Name: 0
Class: XmRendition
Conversion failed. Cannot load font.
et un plantage de l’application.

Merci de m’éclairer

Alain
