Install pyhoca-cli or use the x2goclient

[X2Go-User] x2goclient & pyhoca-gui both fail to start

2017-03-01 Thread brian mullan
I am not sure how to troubleshoot this.

I haven't used x2goclient for a couple weeks and it was working.

*note: Recently I upgraded my Ubuntu 16.04 to the new 4.8 kernel (which
may or may not be related to this but thought I'd mention it).*

Today I've tried to start x2goclient several times and the process starts
but the x2goclient gui interface doesn't appear.

Any suggestions about what to look at to try to determine why it fails?

I tried pyhoca-gui also and it too fails with the following:

*$ pyhoca-gui*
*/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gevent/builtins.py:93: PyGIWarning:
Notify was imported without specifying a version first. Use
gi.require_version('Notify', '0.7') before import to ensure that the right
version gets loaded.*
*  result = _import(*args, **kwargs)*
*pyhoca-gui[8232] (PyHoca-GUI) WARN: the current release of PyHoca-GUI does
not support client configuration*

Again not sure what the above means

Re: [X2Go-User] why can't you specify the target server using x2goclient from the CLI

2016-08-25 Thread brian mullan
Thanks Stefan.

Just submitted the wishlist bug for that option to be added.

I guess I was just surprised when I looked at the differences in CLI
options available from pyhoca-cli and x2goclient cli and although I can
understand some of the differences
the lack of ability to specify the "server" to connect to with the
x2goclient cli seemed odd.

Re: [X2Go-User] Jerky Video Fixed

2015-04-06 Thread brian mullan
I understand that using a cloud server still involves some cpu sharing but
I was interested in whether it would help. I do know I can try the same
using dedicated servers it will just cost a little more per hour but I can
see about trying it next.

That would certainly eliminate issues with hypervisor latency.
Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to do bare metal server testing
at this point, but client is bare metal.

I don't know enough about their cloud servers to know what else to look

can't schedual CPU cycles during times it doesn't have them.

I also think that testing with low latency should be from bare metal
 (server) to bare metal (client).

[X2Go-User] nice article - Using WikID with x2go for 2 factor authentication

2014-07-08 Thread brian mullan
This just popped up on HowToForge as a new article post so I wanted to make
others aware of
it:

Securing X2Go On Ubuntu Precise With WiKID Two-Factor Authentication
In this document we are going to demonstrate how to implement two-factor
authentication from WiKID http://www.wikidsystems.com/ for remote desktop
on an Ubuntu 12.04 server using X2Go. The WiKID Strong Authentication
System is a commercial/open source two-factor authentication solution. X2Go
http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:newtox2go is an NX-based remote desktop
tool. First, we will configure a domain on the WiKID server, then add the
targeted server as a network client to the WiKID server, and finally
configure the Ubuntu Precise box for x2go using pam-radius. Note that if
you already have a server configured as an SSH gateway box with pam-radius,
you can simply add X2Go to and it will work.

Re: [X2Go-User] Pb with x2go agent on ppc64 system

Stefan

By not-routable... I did mean not route-able over the Internet... of
course you could do it for a private local lan environment.

It might be a sw problem but it could be a topology/implementation issue...
Were the machines VMs, were they LXC containers, was x2goserver in a IaaS
cloud somewhere, was it just a PC/laptop on a private network. Were
these different machines in different networks and do they get rebooted and
assigned new IP addresses?

sorry for the confusion... just wanted to ask the questions.

 *ahem*.

10.x.x.x is routable. Like 192.168.x.x and 172.16.x.x etc.

Those ranges are reserved for private use, i.e. behind a NAT, so they're
not unique and don't show up on the public internet - but they're
perfectly routeable within your own, local IP-based network setup.

In fact, most of the machines I sell have a local network in the
192.168.x.z routing to another local network in the 172.16.a.b range and
to another one in the 192.168.y.z range (where y != x).

 Works perfectly well.
