We installed the pyhoca-gui, and have tested it for a few days. It
certainly makes a difference !
Now, the responsivenes of the remote connection is much better, and the
desktop does not stall if he does certain actions, like right-clicking a
mailbox folder in Thunderbird.

The OS on the client side is Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit with Unity.
The OS on the server side is Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit with Unity

Anyway, it is strange that we only see the problem on this particular
ISP connection ?
I must mention that there is just a few users, and the other users are
all connected on fiberchannel ISP's.

Is there any difference in the way the X2go-client and the Pyhoca-client
handles asyncron bandwith ?

We have not tried Stefans scp or rsync proposal yet.

Are hardware issues ruled out already?

For example, you could try to use scp or rsync (which uses ssh by
default, just as X2Go) to transfer a sufficiently large file back and
forth and see if the line/cable-modem performs according to specs.

I've seen wonky hardware act up once the upstream was actually maxed out
(no issues during casual surfing, pinging etc. - only when a higher load
towards the upstream router was present).

Hint: If you test using the particular client and server that you want
to use for the X2Go connection, you'll see a more realistic result than
by running some obscure speed test on a web site.

Nope, there is no one else than him on the connection. He is using
an ethernet cable to his cable-modem, wifi is turned off, and no
other applications than X2go client is running on his computer.
The issue can be reproduced any time we like, but only on this
particular ISP connection.

Interesting!

I have contacted the ISP's support, but there is no errors.

Hmmm...

That's why I was wondering if the X2go client has issues with
asyncron bandwith connections ?

No, not at all. Most connections around me are async DSL
connections... Works perfectly.

For debugging... Does the same issue occur if you use pyhoca-gui
instead of X2Go Client?

What OS is the client-side: Linux/Windows/MacOSX?

The problem does not occur, if the same user log in from a 20/20
connection, or even a 3G dongle with approx 3 Mb bandwith.
Continous ping test with packet size of 25000, for 3 hours shows no
packet dropped to the server for his 20/3 connection.

What would you recommend as proper network settings, or how we
troubleshoot the issue ?

is anything else taking that bandwidth? Can you assure that nothing
else is happening on the network on the client-side?
