Re: [Xastir] Raspberry PI B ...
I was running a box stock configuration but just for fun I dropped the GPU memory down to minimum, overlocked to 900 MHz, unplugged the external USB drive that isn't used by Raspian (I dual boot on a 64G card between Raspian and Gentoo, trying to get rid of SystemD), and rebooted. Within 15 minutes of launching it was back at 100% and stuck there... Ken, I know that you have some test files. I can probably find time to play with them if you'll send them. As an alternative I could loan you the PI at next week's Brunch (I know this week is FEST)... -Original Message- >From: Dexter N Muir>Sent: Apr 19, 2016 1:55 PM >Back to basics: have you checked ground-level configuration? Menu > Preferences > Raspberry Pi Configuration, Performance tab: Overclock. I have mine set at High (950 MHz), and I suspect most units will be stable at that. This allows xastir to fully render the screen and drop back to around 20% CPU usage in a reasonable time. I find zoom level 256-512 (OR the menu's selection of 1024) more than adequate for local coverage - 8192 encompasses the whole of NZ, and across the Tasman to Aussie. That takes around 20 seconds to render (mapnik in Map Chooser), so patience is the requisite virtue :) . I have my locality as a Bookmark at zoom 400, which shows all of the local APRS repeater's coverage, and a bit more. My (small) town shows well at zoom 40. I run this 24/7 online (no RF), and concurrently use amule for a file-share "collector" of rarities, at around 60-80% usage. Hopefully helpfully ... 73, Dex ZL2DEX ___ Xastir mailing list Xastir@lists.xastir.org http://xastir.org/mailman/listinfo/xastir

Send away! -Original Message- From: Ken Koster [mailto:n7...@wetnet.net] Sent: Monday, April 18, 2016 8:27 PM Ok, something is clearly not right. I'll run a couple of tests and package up some test files if you have the time. It would be nice to track it down and at least understand it. ___ Xastir mailing list Xastir@lists.xastir.org http://xastir.org/mailman/listinfo/xastir

[Xastir] Raspberry PI B, Rasbian Jessie, and Xastir = 100% cpu
Well..I've given up on having Xastir running on my poor little PI B...even with the very latest CVS patches it goes into 100% CPU use trying to display just Western Wa...in fact, the preliminary patch from Ken worked better than the latest one... I'm guessing that the latest updates to the Borg that is SystemD and some of the font patches along with Xastir just isn't a good mix.. So I'm resurrecting an old Dell 7000 (Pent I, 366 Mhz with just over 300 G RAM) using Gentoo so I can avoid SystemD...that should give me an always-on system that doesn't generate too much heat for a home Xastir display..
