MAHWAH, N.J., May 18, 2004 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) -- Communications Research, Inc. (CRHI) announced that it will begin marketing TeleWRITER 3.0, the upgraded version of the TeleWRITER product line, at InfoComm June 9-11, 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia. TeleWRITER is a premier product in the collaborative computing market, which is pegged at in excess of 3 billion this year. We have been receiving numerous requests for the upgrade and are on the verge of being able to supply the pent-up demand for our product, remarked Communications Research CEO Carl Ceragno. InfoComm affords us the opportunity of a huge industry event at which to make a big splash and to let the industry know we're back with a vengeance. TeleWRITER's feature rich software, low price point and ease of interoperability should make it a huge hit in the burgeoning distant learning and tele-commuting markets. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. Recipient's mailbox is overflow! ---BeginMessage--- While developing a bit more advanced (and correct) keyboard for Serbian, I came across several problems. I use the multi-layout features of XFree86 4.3.0. The task: Standard alphabet for Serbian is cyrillic, but latin transcription is used as (if not more) widely as cyrillic script. So, I created two different symbol maps in one file pc/sr (actually, a few more, but that is not relevant) named cyrillic and latin. Using the new features, one should be allowed to load the maps with setxkbmap -layout sr,sr,en_US -variant cyrillic, latin, -option grp:shift_toggle It all works fine, but the problem arises with the usage of CTRL+key combinations. If I put en_US as the first group, then they use keys from group1 no matter what group is active. But, in any other case, they use the key mappings from the current group. To try to be more clear: If groups are sr(cyrillic),sr(latin),en_US pressing CTRL+S would generate CTRL+ (cyrillic S) if cyrillic group is active, and CTRL+S otherwise. If groups are en_US,sr(cyrillic),sr(latin) pressing CTRL+S would generate CTRL+S no matter what group is active. I don't understand the reasoning behind this, so I would love to be enlightened :) To me, it seems to be a bug, since I couldn't find any special actions being defined for use in en_US. And to also mention that it's the same if I replace en_US with some other latin mapping (eg. Czech). Because this is not the desired behaviour for me (I want CTRL+S to be generated even in cyrillic, without forcing user to put en_US in the first group), aslav Ili and I have made a SIX_LEVEL keyboard that puts the basic english alphabet at levels five and six. If I put the Control as a level five modifier in a definition of SIX_LEVEL* types, Control gets discarded and I can just use it as level-five shift. If I use preserve[...]=Control, I experience problems in GTK+ 2.x apps (Galeon, gedit) where just pressing any character gets interpreted as if Ctrl is already pressed (eg. pressing A in cyrillic map acts as if CTRL+A is pressed). So, I had to define a Mod4 as modifier for the 5th level. The sixlevel file which defines SIX_LEVEL types is located at http://www.kvota.net/srpski/1.5/sixlevel (it goes in /etc/X11/xkb/types and is included in file complete). The symbols file is at http://www.kvota.net/srpski/1.5/sr (or you can download both in http://www.kvota.net/srpski/sr-1.5.tar.gz 4kb file). Still, I experience some weird behaviour from time to time, and I'd like to hear any advice on setting this kind of layout without insisting on group order. Also, I'd care to hear how to output/repeat a modifier if I use it for switching levels (eg. if I put Control to be used for level5 shift, then I also want the Control modifier to stay active; preserve causes all the weird problems mentioned above). As a guide, I used both Unreliable guide to XKB by Doug Palmer (if I remember correctly, otherwise please excuse me), and XKB Guide by Ivan Pascal. Also, I've read bits of XKBlib and XKBprotocol documents, and of course the README.XKB* supplied with XFree86 4.3.0. Best regards, Danilo egan PS. I also noticed that pc/us map doesn't define symbols for BKSL, so it cannot be used with any mapping which redefines it (mine being a prime example). I'd call this also a bug! ___ I18n mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/i18n ___ I18n mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/i18n ---End Message---

Recipient's mailbox is overflow! ---BeginMessage--- This is a multi-part message in MIME format. [Fonts]Looking for a Mongolian (Cyrillic) Font to cross platform
Dear Sir, I am searching for an Open Type or cross platform font that we can use on a Mongolian Bible Translation project. We have a team in Mongolia working on a Windows PC platform doing translation and input. We have a team here in the US that does the layout. They prefer to use a Mac platform if possible. Is there a font that you know of that is Open Type or Unicode based that we can use on both platforms Also when we send documents back and forth on e-mail the font does not seem to hold even if we stay in a PC environment. Any help you might give will be gratefully appreciated. Carolyn L. Dear webmaster of fontconfig.org and webmaster of xfree86.org/current/fonts.html, Juliusz Chroboczek I just found the page www.fontconfig.org. Here are some comments for improvements for that page. 1) put a date on it. Many places you use currently, or current. It is not possible to know what current is unless you put a date on the page. 2) Put an author's name on it. Just for people who wants to email you. 3) relate the information to http://www.xfree86.org/current/fonts.html. Here is an improvement for www.xfree86.org/current/fonts.html 1) Please mention xft and FontConfig on this page, and describe what they are for, and how they relate to the rest of the information on www.xfree86.org/current/fonts.html In both cases you may consider to describe the mechanism of how a font-family choice (e.g. on a web-page) propagates to a unique fully specified X font-name of an installed font to be used to render the font (on the web-page). Thanks. Current quest: To understand font-selection sufficiently to solve a font-problem on my SuSE8.1, KDE3 system, where google.com (in danish) shows up with a font that does not have bold-face and does not render non-ASCII (8859-1) characters. [Fonts]AA, kde3 and xft
Hi, I have a little question that has been haunting me for the past few days: Summary: KDE3.0.4 (recompiled) lacks antialiasing support when compiled against current CVS (19 nov 2002) of XFree86. What I found out so far: My X env supports RENDER AA works with my currect X (CVS) compilation (xterm -fa helvetica shows AA'd xterm). I suspect I need working xft headers in order to have anti-aliased fonts in KDE? I assume the QT3 packages of debian are compiled with -xft? ./configure decides to give up on xft because Xft.h refers to a file that can't be found. (But continues). Xft.h refers to freetype.h, which is available, not in the freetype dir but freetype2/freetype. Pointing to freetype2/freetype/freetype.h in Xft.h doesn't work, ./configure complains about not finding other files (turns off xft and continues). Moving freetype one level above (next to freetype2) results in a working ./configure and included xft support. Compiling however fails on inconsistencies in multiple declarations of a function and the lack of others (originating from the found and accepted Xft.h). I read that freetype is being turned upsidedown in this release of XFree86 and things might not compile as you expect them. So I noticed. Question: should I stop and get some sleep since it will not work (soon) or is there a quick 'workaround' (like the one with the freetype dir I tried before)? Will Xft.h headers eventually work in 4.3.0, or is this a transition to a whole new approach of Xft? I see a Xft and Xft1 dirs in the CVS structure at the moment namely. Anyway, if someone could enlighten me a bit here, I'd be pleased... Regards, Martin van Es ___ Fonts mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/fonts
[Fonts]Bizarre TTF problems under XFree 4.2.1
First off, I can't subscribe to the list because Mailman is giving me a bug page when I try, so please Cc: your replies to [a s p i r i d o] at princeton.edu. (properly formatted) I have some truetype fonts living in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype. The directory has proper permissions, correct fonts.dir and fonts.scale files, and is included along with the other fontpaths. xfontsel lists the fonts fine, with two sizes available -- 0 and 12 (0 and 120, respectively). If I select 120 for ptSize, it shows the fonts in 12, which is also the default, so nothing changes. If I choose pxlsz 12 instead, xfontsel stops displaying the font, and doesn't refresh the area at all until I change that field to 0 or *. This happens for all the truetype fonts. Moreover, if I run xfontsel -fn *-arial-*-*-*-*-12-* -- I get a cannot convert FontStruct Message xfontsel -fn *-arial-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -- I get a cannot convert FontStruct Message xfontsel -fn *-arial-*-*-*-*-*-120-* -- I get a cannot convert FontStruct Message xfontsel -fn *-arial-*-*-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*It works! Giving a complete specification doesn't work with pxlsz specified. However, it does work with just ptSize. Other sizes show exactly the same behavior. All of the above work just fine if I put helvetica instead of arial. Does anyone have a hunch about what could be going wrong? This is Gentoo 1.4_rc1. Most other people running the same distribution don't have this problem (Gentoo forums). However, my attempts to get help there have, so far, been unsuccessful. Thanks. [Fonts]quick sub-pixel AA question
Hello, Is it possible to determine how much sup-pixel rendering is done? What I mean is, my monitor is definitely RGB (not BGR), but the default RGB rendering is just too much. Maybe my pixels are closer together than it is assuming. Can I lower the amount of jitter of the pixels anywhere (hopefully without recompiling)? (BTW, ClearType looks fine on the same monitor, so maybe it doesn't jitter the pixels as much? In any case, RGB does look nice, but you can still see little red and blue shadows around things.) So b4 posting error msg and all that stuff if somebody encounters hard times with XF ver=4.1, upgrade to 4.2 And maybe one could cat this into a digest and mail it to ATI? Maybe makes them a lil more talkative about chip specs etc. Dex ___ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie ___ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
[Newbie]Best all around video card?
I am looking for a good all around video card in X that will work flawlessly in 4.2 and preferrably have 3d support if I wanted to try a game later on. If it doesn't have 3d support I was looking at the ATI Xpert98 because it seems to work well on my other computer, so I would just buy another. I am looking for one under $50, any suggestions are appreciated. Also it has to be AGP.
