Yes, as this machine (the i810 one) didn't have problems previously. Nothing about the glx module in this one, unlike the S3 crash. The problem could have been around for some time, as it's rare that I leave an X session up for more than a day (I usually exit back out to command line when I'm done), and that's when this seems to happen: when X is left running over a day or so. I'll see what happens without the suspected modules. [XFree86] Xserver crash, i810
Here's the same type crash as was happening with the S3 VirgeDX chipset, only this time on i810. No mention of glx module, but it was loaded. Two different machines, same XFree86, 4.6.0. Both crashes only happen if X is left running for over a day or so, then shut down. Once the server closes, the console is never restored. (If you missed it, I posted a few issues back about a strange crash, now I have more info as to the cause and how to get out of it again.) Yup, it is definately the glx module. Remove it and everything is OK. It won't crash right away. I have to have X up for about 20 minutes and then close it down before it gets stuck in graphic mode. Just save a known-good textmode: restoretextmode -w /etc/vga/textmode.save. It looks like a problem related to OpenGL. My guess is this happened when cleaning up resources for an OpenGL app (like the screen saver) during shutdown. Does killing the screensaver while the server is running produce the same problem? To my knowledge the S3 driver doesn't support accelerated 3D graphics. Perhaps it doesn't happen if you don't load the dri module? Mark. [XFree86] XServer Crash
This just started this morning, but I don't use this machine as much so prehaps this may be due to a kernel upgrade? Exiting X results in the screen locking, black, with just the pointer where I left it. The command line is still usable, but the only way to get the display back is a full reboot. hai siva When you run XFree86 -configure, it will generate a file named XF86Config or XF86Config.new and this u need to copy to /etc/X11 as XF86Config, just check this. In the meantime, you should build a static server with "#define DoLoadableServer NO" in your xc/config/cf/host.def file. You can also further tailor the server to your board by also #define'ing XInputDrivers and XF86CardDrivers to the specific drivers you wish to include in the server binary. [XFree86] Xserver crash

I am using linux-2.6.11 (uclibc) kernel with ati
framebuffer driver (RAGE XL).
When i am using Xserver on my normaly it started and
works, but it get crashed when moving windows on it,
and we cannot predict when it crash.At the time of
crash always get the debug message

(sometimes signal 11 or 10)
..Is it a problem with ATI driver ?(I changed my

Dear All, I am using Red Hat Linux 9.0 with glib 3.3 and kernel 2.4.20-8 versions. The XServer crashed when I tried to read the contents of the /dev/mem file and /proc/kmem file using the cat command inorder to retrieve the contents of the physical memory. As suggested in the kernel dump, here I am attaching the XFree86.0.log file. What is wrong with the /dev/mem and /proc/kmem files and how they are related to XServer crash? Am I missing any configuration file variable? Please provide a pointer to the solution or any link to study. On Linux, XFree86 requires that virtual terminal support be compiled into your kernel. Perhaps you don't have virtual terminal support in your kernel? Mark. hi, I tried to create a bootable cd, it worked and booted to the prompt. Now i added all the files from /etc/X11 and /usr/X11R6 and created a new image and created a new cd and it booted, now when i type startx it gives the error Fatal server error: xf86OpenConsole: cannot open virtual console 2(Input/output error) i am sending the xfree86.0.log file ... can u tell me how to bring display to my bootable cd... [XFree86] XServer problem: Plz help

Thanks for the tips - they did eventually lead to the solution: 1. The latest Debian Linux does not appear to supply a generic svga driver. I tried the vga driver which ran but the display was so bad as to be unusable. 2. By searching the net for info on the glint driver, I eventually discovered that there is an X-server specifically for Permedia 2 video cards. I installed this server and everything worked! I have seen other problems (OpenGL rendering) with the nvidia driver for AMD 64-bit,, which were not solved with various configuration changes. Simple surfaces seem to work fine. When I try something more complex (e.g., multiple surfaces, some translucent as well as pasted "screen" (2d) objects, some of the surfaces will be missing. When I rotate a 3d object, the surfaces will disappear as if an opaque triangle colored with the background color of the window is drawn in front, which grows with further rotation. The problem is repeatable. I reported the problem to nvidia, but never received an answer. For your reference, the system was a dual 2.2GHz AMD Opteron system with a Quadro FX3000 (IBM Intellistation A-Pro) running RHEL-WS3.0 for x86_64 with an SMP kernel (2.4.21-20.ELsmp). It has gcc v3.2.3 (from Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-42), XFree 86 4.3.0 and version 1.0-6111 of the nividia driver for Linux AMD64. When booted with a 32bit version of RHEL and the x86-32 version of the driver, everything worked fine, although more slowly. It's not an XFree86 problem. In my experience on x86, disabling AGP usually fixes this sort of thing on NVIDIA cards, but since this is 64 bit AMD, NVIDIA may still be working other issues out. [XFree86] Xserver/nvidia driver freezes
Greetings. I have upgraded to XFree86 4.4.0 and I've upgraded my nvidia driver to the latest release, but my X-server still intermittently hangs in what seems to be a busy loop. As it has been pointed out to me that this might be a driver bug, I've sent the following message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hi GuysI was installing SMB protocol (samba) and a graphical user interface called swat to manage samba, everything was fine till i shutdown the pc yesterday.Today I was starting my linux (rh9) kernel 2.4.20-8 the I found that it tries to bring up the graphical interface with no success. wellI switched to the text mode, typed linux single , went on with the sequecnce till the text login appears when i try to type it dissappears again trying to start x server and so on. I had no success in loggingthen when I started again I hit the spacebar key to enter linuxconf try to reconfigure when I typed redhat-config-xfree86 I got the following messagexconf.py fatal io error 2 (connection reset by peer) on x serverwhen I type X it gives me the following errorFatal server error:could not open default font 'fixed'I can send you the whole log file if you want log file attached any suggestions?? Hi, I have made a little gadget to get the right sync from VGA to SCART in my TV. With this Modeline the picture is Ok, but it flickers too much. 13356000 640 656 712 848 480 480 483 525 Interlace With this Modeline the picture is Ok and no flicker, but it has too few scanlines. 13331000 640 656 712 848 240 240 241 262 I like to try this modeline: 13382000 640 656 712 848 480 480 483 526 Concatenate Concatenate (concatenate 2 fields to get a frame): Concatenate is a flag, which does not exist in XServer and is only here for explanation. First field contains lines 1-263 (=top half of the frame) and second field contains lines 264-526 (=bottom half of the frame). In this way I could have HSF to 15750 Hz and field rate to 60 Hz which NTSC TV demand (or 15625/50Hz for PAL TV). Driver "svga". Device "Cirrus Logic GD543X" chipset: clgd5434 The aim is to have the TV as the computer screen with 526 (480) lines with no flicker. Is it possible to configure XServer to concatenate fields? [XFree86] Xserver problem
Hi! Is there a known bug with the nvidia's binary driver, kernel 2.6 and xfree 4.3.0? When i use it i experience some hang-ups. But if i use the xfree driver it works like a charm. Sir, When The system is up initially, I started xserver by tying startx and kde got started and every working fine. When I press logout.. the screen just going blank.And that's it. I have to restart the system. The same bug is repeating everytime... when I do logout first time after system startup. I am sending XFree86.8.log file for ur reference. [XFree86] xserver crash
hi ! i have xserver XFree86 Version 4.3.0 on RH9.0. it was working fine until i happen to reboot the machine from terminal without exiting from the xwindow. since then i am not being able to run xwindow. it prompts for username and password as normal. but when both username and password is supplied, the blue screen appears and doesnot progress beyond that. i have tried XFree86 -configure which prompts to run XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86config.new but the problem remained the same. the only message i could see in the terminal is (++) Using Config file: "/root/XF86Config.new" someone please advice me. thanks in advance. ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

Hi there, after installing FreeBSD 4.7 on a P4 machine i tried to configure my "GeForce FX 5200" by downloading its driver from the NVIDIA website (and did as they've specified). After installation of the driver, the startx command ended by a crash : the output said that a card was found but was not added correctly to the xf86PciInfo.h as specified in the output of scanpci attached to this mail with other information about the Xserver configuration on my box. Please help me on sorting out this issue... It says that ABI's (whatever this is) is newer then my Xserver version although I have Xfree86-4.3.0 (and this seems to be the latest Xserver version) on my slack?? I've got an error with Xserver version. It says that ABI's (whatever this is) is newer then my Xserver version although I have Xfree86-4.3.0 (and this seems to be the latest Xserver version) on my slack?? Sir , I have installed the Redhat Linux version 9.0 hardly two weeks ago. My problem is that now I could not start my XServer. For that reason I could not get into the GUI. On a new bought 8 GB harddisk I installed debian 3.0. It's runnning but I cannot start your xserver. the log.0 file says that the file 'xwrapper' is missing or can't be located. now I want to load down an newer version of the Xfree86 programm. [XFree86] Xserver NOT running with Nvidia GeForce FX 5200Go
I installed XFree86 version 4.1.0.1 on my Dell Inspirion 5150 laptop, which has a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Go graphics card. I can't get the Xserver to work. I get a message saying "no screens detected". By doing a PCI bus scan, I get the impression that the video card on PCI:1:0:0 was not detected. I looked up my card on the XFree86 website and it does not seem to be there, but I am not sure if the card is currently supported or not. Can anyone tell from the above symptons if the problem is definitly related to lack of support for my video card in the XFree86 version 4.1.0.1? If this is the problem and there are no Linux driver for this card, does anyone know when, or if, it will be available? So your X server only has 892KB of memory, which isn't enough to allow it to programme video modes higher that 640x480x8bpp. This is a pretty standard problem for DELL desktops and laptops using the intel graphics and is the fault of DELL. Intel has released a VideoBIOS update to fix this problem. DELL has not implemented it in it's BIOS updates. Hassle dell tech support to fix it!! As a workaround, there is a patch for the 845 and 855 chipsets that screws with the bios and overwrites this number with one you specify. Kudos to christian zietz for this: http://www.chzsoft.com.ar/855patch.html It MAY work for you. It may not. I've used it sucessfully to get my 855GM-based laptop working. Try the patch, and use the vanilla 4.3.0 Xserver with kernel modules i810 and i830 (for 3d hardware acceleration). [XFree86] Xserver fails
Hi, I´m running XFree 4.3 (Gentoo) and everything worked right till once it didn´t run any more. I don´t know why whenever I try to startx it fails, if I try to run gdm it says "gdm: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" I tried to make a sim link ln -s libgtk libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 and then it said "gdm: error while loading shared libraries: libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" the I did a sim link to libgdk...and so on, but I still can´t run the Xserver. Hi, My X-Server has been crashing periodically since *at least* the end of May. This usually happens when trying to load a web page in Mozilla. My current crash is VERY repeatable, and I have attached the current server log. I am using Linux 2.4.22 and its associated mga DRI module. I was using the CVS DRI module, but that can no longer be built against Linux 2.4 because the kernel does not export the flush_tlb_all() symbol. Hi folks, got some worries with starting the X-Server and hope one of you would like to help. Attached you find XF86Config and Xfree86.0.log. I tried to run the Font Server as well as giving explicite fonts path however both ends up with: Fatal Server Error: Cannot find default font "fixed" Admitted, this (Siemens-Nixdorf MCM 1701) is not the latest monitor but it's the only one I got for the moment and I believed it should be able to work in standard VGA mode at least. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failure allocating root object. The NVIDIA kernel module (EE) NVIDIA(0): may not be installed correctly! Please refer to the FAQ for (EE) NVIDIA(0): installation instructions. When you change your kernel you need to recompile and reinstall your nvidia kernel module. Probably you want to take the opportunity to get a newer version of it and the XFree86 driver. If you were running a web browser at the time, it's probably a freetype problem. You could try using the "xtt" module instead of "freetype". Mark. This has probably been brought up before, but since this is the #1 FAQ, XFree86 should probably print an extra line in the error log: Tip: xfs isn't running, but XFree86 needs it to access your fonts. Restart xfs by running "/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs start" Or similar, if it sees that unix/:7100 is the only font path element and that no process named xfs is running.
