I have two independent xmail servers in two physical locations, each

single domain. The second server is also configured to relay emails
received
for the first domain to the first server. Finally the MX records of the
first
domain contain two entries: the first entry points to the first server
and
second entry points to the second server.

Thus, emails for the first domain normally go to the first server, but
if it
is not reachable they go to the second server, and it forwards them to
the
first server. emails for the second domain are only processed by the
second
 server.

Both servers are configured to use CustMapsList, with a delay of 3
seconds
from email from suspected sources (i.e. CustMapsList
zen.spamhaus.org:-3)
That effectively cuts out all spam... except for spam sent to the first
domain
 through the second server.

With -3 you're not going to cut SPAM. I suggest you use 0 or 1 instead.
I'd also suggest to use GLST (greylisting) to help with SPAM and
Worms/Viruses.
CustMapsList works before routing decisions are taken, so the problem
you're seeing is not due to CustMapsList.

My hypothesis is that email send to a custom domain at the second server
is
immediately relayed to the first server without checking. At the first
server
the source of the email appears to be the second server and thus is not
 rejected.

Is the above correct and is there a workaround?

Your setup is fine, but the problem is not what you think. When using a
setup like yours, the second domain has no way to know which users are
valid for the first domain, so it blindly accept emails for all users of
the first domain.
IMO the best option to perform a secondary MX setup, is to replicate
master domain users into the slave server, and put a single domain global
mailproc.tab with an smtprelay to the master server.

How does GLST behave when sending mail to many recipients?

It seemed like someone was trying to send one email to many accounts and
one account has been previously cleared by GLST but others did not.
Therefore one account has received a mail every time a client tried to
send email to all accounts but has failed because of 15 min GLST
clearance delay. Is that even a possibility or am I seeing ghosts here?

[xmail] Re: Multiple recipients GLST

2005-11-02 Thread Sergio Casagrande
I had the same problem.
The solution to solve it was to use glst in filter-post.data.tab
In this way glst runs one time for every recipients.
Ciao.

Basicly a SMTP filter error (-5): Filter means that the Filter ran
too long. I used to see this ALL the time when doing SA filtering at the
smtp level. I needed up reducing the SA rules and now everything seems
to run fine.

the offending process and then others glst waiting :
   SMTP filter error (-5): Filter = c:\xmailtools\glst\glst.exe

When killing the offending glst process (using 100%) then the others glst

XMail Smtp and filters logs don't show intensive smtp in connections (I
suspected a 'spam attack' ...)

To be sure its not a faulty gdmb database, I deleted the current and let
glst create it from scratch.

Thanks

This looks quite odd, since if an entry for a domain exists in

I was wondering if I could recruit a small handful of volunteers to help me
test out Beta 2 of XMail Manager LE. There have been lots of changes, and I
need a new set of eyes to make sure I haven't broken anything.

A: Terry L Fritts
Oggetto: [xmail] Re: mailproc external Windows 2K Server

I posted about my problem executing an exe from a command alias or
from mailproc and wanted to report the issue.

I had set up a mailroot\scripts directory and had my programs in that
folder to run. The programs each opened a log file extended, wrote a =
line
with the arguments passed, closed, and exited. The log file name was
of the form program.log - no path information.

So just to review the issues:

   Perl script worked called thusly:
 c:\perl\bin\perl.exe c:\mailroot\scripts\test1.pl

   Wsh vb script worked:
 C:\winnt\system32\cscript.exe //T:120 =
c:\mailroot\scripts\test2.vbs

Direct exe did not (seem to) work:
 c:\mailroot\scripts\test3.exe

And I thought this because I could not find test3.log.

So in the course of searching for this I moved the test3.exe program
to the C:\winnt\system32\ folder and changed my cmdalias line
accordingly. Sent and e-mail and then looked for the log file in the
c:\winnt\system32\ folder.

And sure enough it was there which left me very puzzled since the
permissions were exactly the same. But, suddenly, I noticed there
were other entries in the log file. So I switched back to the
original and sent another e-mail and sure enough the log file in
c:\winnt\system32\ folder was updated.

I am certainly no Windows expert but I assume that the context of the
system user must somehow default to the C:\winnt\system32 directory
(not that that seems strange really) and so the log file was written
there since I didn't give it a better path.

I suppose the lesson must be that you have to really define the file
paths used in the executables.

Thought I'd report in case anyone else was having trouble.

When I sent helo command the xmailserver's reply was:

I had to change server.tab configuration in this way:

RootDomainmail.telsey.it
SmtpServerDomain telsey.it
POP3Domaintelsey.it
HeloDomaintelsey.it

to correct the helo reply to:
mail.telsey.it (the right RDNS name for my mail server)

The documentation say:
[HeloDomain]
If this variable is specified and is not empty, its content is sent =

[xmail] R: Configuration

2003-06-23 Thread Sergio Casagrande

I can not make it because the domain is the same.
but, I solved my problem in this way:
my configuration was:

hostA; domain.it; userAA
hostA; domain.it; userAB
hostB; domain.it; userBA
hostB; domain.it; userBB

in hostA there is exchange server;
every hostB's user is forward to hostB with XMAIL

in hostB the domain il domain.it and XMAIL is running;
every hostA's user is added in user.tab and they have only an entry in =
mailproc.tab like this:

smtprelay xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the hostA =
address)=20

Thanks
