moe...@mail.ru, Ubuntu 9.04 reached EOL on October 23, 2010. For more on this,
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases .

If this is reproducible in a supported release, it will help immensely if you
filed a new report with Ubuntu by ensuring you have the package xdiagnose
installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging
information running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

For more on why this is helpful, please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I am experiencing the same issues

You're using the fglrx / Catalyst drivers, but this bug report is about the
open source radeon drivers.

Is this still an issue with KMS or a newer version of the driver?

Ok I updated the radeon driver here is my xorg.conf:
http://mypaste.ja-s.de/1953

I tested also without a xorg.conf, but also a blackscreen and only systembeep
:/
The seconand port is a VGA port so I cant test the card on the other port.

btw:
xserver-xorg-core is also up2date (1.6.3.901-1)

 Hello again,

 Identifier DVI-0

I switched to the name of my TFT and tried again but I get always the same
 error.
If you need the gdm logfile I post it here, too.

You didn't set the monitor section to for DVI-0:

(II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 using monitor section L227W
(**) RADEON(0): Option PreferredMode 1024x768_60.00
(II) RADEON(0): I2C bus VGA-0 initialized.
(II) RADEON(0): Output DVI-0 has no monitor section

It's using the monitor section for VGA-0. You need to set the identifier for
your monitor to DVI-0 as I said.

--- Comment #6 from moe...@mail.ru 2009-09-24 18:22:03 PST ---
OK it seems its a radeon bug and no xorg.conf failure.
I tested with a Ubuntu 9.04:

Normal Boot:

I see the Boot Logo hear the bootsound (holy crapy) but then black screen.
Nothing happens.
I tested if some tty are available and pressed ctrl+alt+f1...f7 and get a
prompt.
lsmod | grep radeon
shows me that the radeon is active.

Boot in graphic safe mode:

no problems. I can login. lsmod | grep radeon doesnt show the radeon as active.

workarounds? fixes?etc?

I set the display modes in the xorg.conf to 800x600 and 640x480 but same
effect.
Also I disabled the DRI section and restartet gdm and could see for few seconds
gdm.
any ideas? fixes patches? would be very cool, if i can use the raden asap :)

Does forcing any others modes work (the other 1680x1050 mode, 1024x768,
1280x1024, etc.)?
