Re: [xubuntu-users] tmp-filesystem unusabel

2022-08-06 Thread Elbert LaGrew
About the same thing happened to me just a few days ago. The computer also
was about 10 years running fine. I ended up getting a refurbished computer
and will be installing xubuntu on to this as well.

My guess is that the bios battery finally bit the dust. You can test out
the theory by getting a new button battery an change it out, but for me, it
just wasn't worth the effort.

Good luck.

Re: [xubuntu-users] Please help

2022-06-20 Thread Elbert LaGrew
The first thing you need to do is to do some research and find out what
those BIOS settings are used for and how they are changed properly. Going
in willy nilly and changing what you THINK they should be is not the right
way to go about it.

Ask your resources if there is anyone who has the same model
computer/BIOS. Be EXACT. Pictures if necessary. and see what others have
done to get LINUX installed.

A little research and leg work will go a long way in solving your problem.

Re: [xubuntu-users] Flickering screen on Lenovo Yoga 900S-12ISK

2022-05-27 Thread Elbert LaGrew
Doing a Google search for your laptop shows that originally, the Yoga
models were NOT compatible with LINUX.
https://www.pcworld.com/article/410965/after-protest-lenovo-brings-linux-compatibility-to-yoga-900-and-900s.html
Lenovo did subsequently come out with a BIOS update which was optional.

Do you have that BIOS update?

It displays for me using Chrome Version 80.0.3987.132 (Official Build)
(64-bit). Maybe this is a Firefox "feature"? It certainly is not Google.

Re: [xubuntu-users] suddenly 2 icons in panel when any program is run

2016-03-19 Thread Elbert LaGrew
Maybe you didn't do anything wrong. Check with how your office has their
LAN setup. Do you use DHCP? Many times I've seen DHCP set up for certain
MAC addresses so if your MAC is not registered, it will not get an IP
address. By the way, do you have an IP address at work? What is
it...check. Are you hardcoding everything? So you know the IP range? How
about the Gateway? Net Mask? Maybe check with your office network person?
